God! I don't know, but if you got WD-40 on skin that thin....

Milt, I undestand ya to a point, but life isn't just serious, it's funny!

It's all about sarcasm, and delivery, everything else is just filler.

The Post That Would Not Die

When I posted a exaggerated picture of the rake on my car I got Starsky & Hutch stripped tomato busted on me, I thought it was funny. The more conversation a posts generates good or bad the better. I posted a really pathetic Miami Vice Abortion & was accused of shameless promotion. Again I thought it hilarious. I would say Pierre's first post is pretty damn funny, & I hope he can to. :D

Victor 08-04-2003 04:29 PM

OK,

Let's all gather 'round the campfire for a hearty rendition of "Kumbayah".

Zeke 08-04-2003 05:00 PM

Now that this is moved to off-topic, we can really let the horse out. Pierre got the short end of the polite stick. Poor guy struggles to ask a question in apparently his second language and he gets a bunch of flack. If he is in fact, French or French Canadian or from another French speaking country, I'm sure that the *humor* was misplaced with him. This whole deal has spread to the 914Club BBS as well. I know I've made a mountain out of this, but I won't apologize for it.

PierreL, while your son may have had good intentions, (spraying the fender) . . . to get it off, it must be cut off. Now if you had said front fender, well yes, removal may be aided by WD-40 on the bolts. But the rear fender; it's welded on.

uh?

what?

Oh!

TimT 08-04-2003 05:40 PM

It seems that after my initial response to Pierres' question, the ravenous hordes took off and ran.

I question everything. If I get an instruction from a superior I question it. If you tell me something is blue Ill ask are you sure.

Pierre posted a question. I answered it. I recommended he wash the car and wax the car.

I learned about WD40 more years ago than I like to admit. Perhaps I take for granted some things that are just obvious to me may not be known by all. Im glad someone posted info from the WD website

My response was generated by my feeling that its really no big deal to get some WD on your paint, Like others I use it to clean the track snot from my cars.

Was my response rude? hardly.........sarcastic? perhaps....

Is removing WD40 from an SC off topic? not at all....

And finally I have lived and worked in Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. To imply that I may not be sensitive or aware of others language barriers or customs is just plain wrong.

what do I know..

TimT 08-04-2003 05:49 PM

why the heck am I defending myself? First amendment et al.

Joe Bob 08-04-2003 05:59 PM

I was probably the worst offender...assuming that he was French and would surrender at the drop of the can.....but hey that's me....always has been. Don't worry about it, Tim.

I don't have an exscuse, I was born sarcastic. :p

TimT 08-04-2003 06:06 PM

Im not worried at all. Actually kind of surprised.

bell 08-04-2003 06:48 PM

wow i can't belive i missed this thread :D

pierre will be back........maybe we should pm him......

targa911S 08-05-2003 04:53 AM

I love you guys! This is the best thread I have seen in a long time. Everybody has shown their sense of humor so well....except Pierre of course. Hope we don't see in the news that he hung himself in his garage!

Zeke 08-05-2003 06:58 AM

That's pretty funny in itself. But you noticed that up untill now, I wasn't laughing. Maybe I'm the odd duck here. Someone asked what "Renn" meant. Honestly, wasn't that a stupider question? Much easier to do a search on. No one blinked an eye. I don't get it (obviously).

island911 08-05-2003 07:13 AM

Re: Renn

The difference is; this thread went off the deap-end when Pierre (with just a few posts behind him) posted; "TimT I fell your post is neddlessly rude."

. . .. talk about "neddlessly rude."

It's funny; a guy with a french name, feigning offence, directed at the guy (TimT) hesitantly helping him.

MikeZ nailed it. --hilarious stuff!

slowlane 08-05-2003 02:31 PM

There are no stupid questions.

island911 08-05-2003 02:35 PM

Why is that?

slowlane 08-05-2003 02:42 PM

Exactly.

island911 08-05-2003 04:39 PM

Oh, wait; slowdown . . . What was the middle part?

nostatic 08-05-2003 06:13 PM

Is this post ned-less? I suppose I haven't seen a Ned post yet. For that matter, it is rather Ruth-less too.

"I've only got half a key [sic]. I split it with the sound man..."

Zeke 08-05-2003 07:36 PM

I read Pierre's 5 posts. He is a total freshman with Porsches. He came to the board with ligitimate questions that were on topic. The BBS is called the "911 Technical" board, right? Well, his 4th post wasn't all that technical and his 5th was his last. All I have said from the beginning is that is just wrong that he got no respect for asking a question out of apparently genuine, albeit ignorant, concern. Just a minute or so ago, the same thing happened to me. Bunch of members waiting in the wings to take a shot. Screw 'em. I need a vacation.

???????

island911 08-05-2003 10:10 PM

Zeke; are you talking about the sparkplug thread?

Well, when info posted is counter to what I think I know, i will likely respond . . . especially if the questionable info comes from one of the more respected members here.

slowlane 08-06-2003 08:35 AM

Rant mode on:
No one knows everything; no one knows nothing. Even the properties of the well known and highly regarded WD-40 were open to speculation from a few who posted here. My guess is that there were a lot more who didn't feel confident enough in their knowledge to post. The consensus is that WD-40 will not, in the short term, harm paint but I don't see anyone volunteering a car for a long term test. That being said, I think that the risk of being made the target of light hearted fun is a fair price to pay for the benefit of the advice of the folks here. If it's the worse thing that ever happens to you, you are lucky beyond imagination. Most of life doen't come with a scroll down arrow.
Rant mode off.

. . .

wow - well said!

Joe Bob 08-06-2003 09:01 AM

This thread ain't gonna die...is it?

Jeroen 08-06-2003 10:09 AM

Hey, the guy asked for it
Tim was just checking if it was a serious question (but he answered it anyway).
Pierre replied that Tim was rude
Pierre triggered this all by himself by that statement
Jeeeeezzzzz....

cheers,

Jeroen

Bill Douglas 08-06-2003 01:28 PM

Excuse me... I'm being ignored here. I was more rude to Pierre than Tim was.

slowlane 08-06-2003 01:31 PM

True, but look at where you are from. No one believed it was truly you posting. Besides, everyone here knows that it's Drano (lye based drain cleaner) that is most effective in removing WD-40 from paint.

Bill Douglas 08-06-2003 01:37 PM

LOL.

TSNAPCRACKLEPOP 08-06-2003 02:03 PM

i suggest we name a small town in south dakota after him as penance, and call it even.(Pierre, S.D.)

slowlane 08-06-2003 02:10 PM

I bet someone here could come up with a certificate and everything.....

nostatic 08-06-2003 02:27 PM

OK, so here's an odd data point. I called up the guy that makes my bass guitars to ask him about how to clean the graphite neck (has a catalyzed fingerboard also). He says windex for the back and...get this...WD40 for the fingerboard. Go figure...

If it is any consolation Bill, I spent the better part of last night obsessing about how rude you were...I just kept it to myself. I'll never get those 4 hours of lost sleep back.

Bill Douglas 08-06-2003 02:43 PM

But you got to have four hours of life and just think about how great those four hours were...

slowlane 08-06-2003 02:50 PM

Man, that's deep....

island911 08-06-2003 03:46 PM

. . . deep "something," anyway.

nostatic 08-06-2003 06:23 PM

Bill, I always have to ask, "compared to what?" I suppose those 4 hours were great compared to 4 hours of listening to Celine Dion while having tabasco sauce dripped onto fresh paper cuts (redundant I know, and apologies to the tabasco sauce, that did nothing to deserve the CD punishment).

Not that I don't love you like a brother...it's hot in here though.

Zeke 08-06-2003 08:25 PM

island, you don't do emails from here and I quit dicking around with PM's when the thing wouldn't hold more than 6 and then refused to tlet others send me one. So at the risk of prolonging this, here is a message to you.

I compared a new Bosch plug with another new Bosch plug that I had wire wheeled. I did this with a jeweler's loupe (I looked for several minutes on how to spell that and never did find it, and at this point, I'm completely out of any kind of patience). The difference was very impressive to me. If I could micro photograph that, you would be convinced. As it is, because of the constipation of many board members, I will probably be the only one to benefit from this extremely simple and worthwhile procedure. Under high magification, the threads on the new plugs are rough and nicked. After wire wheeling, most of this is a nice polished surface with a few of the nicks remaining, but the high ridges burnished off.

Now, I could have brought the spark plug thread back with this information, but I have now decided that to try to present a benefit to the 911 group is a waste of my time. This right here is a waste of my time, but I had to say it. I will from now on not post to the 911 BBS with any new information. If takers are all that's needed/wanted, I'm taking, not giving. F*ck everybody. Aidios.

man...........who peed in your cheerios?

if pierre's lack of english skills contributed to an ignorant question being made fun of then so be it......i'm sure if he posts again he'll get some explainations, appologies AND get his questions answered correctly.............
simply put........."lighten up francis"

Drago 08-06-2003 08:42 PM

Zeke, sounds like your *should* be missing some of your mid-life crisis....

island911 08-06-2003 09:23 PM

That why it say 2¢ worth under my user name.

All a guy can do is throw the info out there. It's the readers responsibility to assess its value.

I promise you, Milt; some out there are thinking 'yeah. . .thats a good idea, I've got a light wire wheel that would do the trick.

Others are thinking. . ..'hmmm last time I took a wire-wheel to something, it flew across the room and took-out my wifes favorite porcelain figurines. . .I wonder if she'll notice the glue lines?

Still others are thinking 'hmmm. .a thread on threads . . . yawn--time to surf for some porn'

.. . ect

You can't control how others are going to take what you have to say. All you can do is throw it out there.

Bill Douglas 08-06-2003 11:41 PM

Now I'm loosing four hours of life trying to think of a suitably witty reply.

Guess what??? Have a look in the Kiwi/Aussie forum under the title Bill Douglas is this your car...
