In the mid '70's my Dad helped build a 61-3 Tbird that was raced by Sam Beeler, He raced it at Riverside, Ontario, and Mesa Marin. Once the car started getting old around '79 he switched to a camero. I really need to get a scanner to save some of the pics.

Caliber , i would think is prolly .308..
Don't see why police snipers would use .338 Lapua, they typically do not need to shoot at really long range.
The ballistics of a .308, Bullet drop, cross wind at less then 300 meter is not really worse from .338Lap, that changes when you go longer distance,
but police shooters tend to work at relatively close range compared to Army snipers..
