It's not possible to put it on safety if it's not cocked.
I obviously don't need you telling me how my rifle works: Only way either my 1911, M1a or Ar-15 can be put on safety, is if they are cocked

And i have my safety routine that works just fine.

For one thing : I always transport my rifle to and from the range with a yellow safety flag in the chamber. 1 so i'm always 100% sure i'm transporting an unloaded rifle 2 So if the cops stop me, i can show em that the rifle is clear the second i open my case.

For another thing: I absolutely never put a live round in my rifle at home.
The day i do, chit has gotten real.

So no, i do not need to put on the safety when it's not even possible to do so.
At home, nothing but snap caps for practice or function tests. They are purple..i will try not to get those mixed up with real ammo. I promise.

Last but not least, anytime i store my rifles, i will decock em while i point the muzzle in a safe place.
No way any of my weapons will be stored with the hammer back. And if the hammer ain't back, the safety can't be put on and anybody can pull the trigger, it won't even dry fire. Not even a "click"

back when I was your age, I was on a job when a millwright did that, with a 3/4" die nut!
Blood and shredded skin eveywhere, ga-narly.
He was telling a co-worker to reverse the gun and thread it off, everyone else was yelling NOOOOOOO!

Ended up splitting it with a grinder.
