Don't be ridiculous. He's simply using the Turbo Encabulator to spherically align the swerver bearings. Sheeesh.

Way way back in auto class the teacher told us:
Straight-cut gears are most strongest but most noisiest. Those angled-cut create a side thrust with load and a harmonic imbalance to the rim circle at high speed and load changes. That herringbone-cut gears eliminate side thrust and self align and provide redundancy in case of tooth breakage. But do they cause more friction thrust on main bearings? They are tough to make and to get them to mesh right. Takes some great skills to make well - even with modern CNC machines.

What? Ok.
Cut spiral gears one way. Cut spiral gears the other way. Match up keys narrow or wide so it all looks like fishy bones. Repeat smaller or larger other side. With flex spacers to absorb vibrations. I don't know. ![]() |
