They use them to make DeNiro seem taller and imposing compared to Pacino. They do that a lot in film. Meryl Streep wore similar in "Julie and Julia" where she played Julia child who was 6' 2" in real life so that she would tower over Stanley Tucci. There's a lot of "diminuitive" actors in Hollywood, can't be shorter than your leading lady!

Fortunately, up here in the PNW, we have a number of local Killer Whale pods. Orcas, for you learned types. They don't like sharks. For whatever reason, they kinda like us. They kill sharks. They leave us alone. A 1,500 to 2,000 pound Great White is no match for a 12,000 pound Orca bull. Pretty one sided fight, actually.

The airplane was still barely a teenager when the United States entered World War I, and the U.S. Army’s fledgling aeronautical division wanted to make its airplanes fly higher without losing power.

Sanford Moss, a GE engineer and one of the brightest minds in the steam turbine business, had an idea. He and his team designed a device called turbosupercharger. It used exhaust fumes coming from an aircraft engine to power a small turbine. The turbine increased the air pressure in the engine’s cylinders and gave it more oomph, especially at high altitudes where the air is thinner.

Although the unducted turbofan didn’t catch on, the carbon fiber blade technology allowed GE engineers to build a new a line of massive high-bypass turbofan engines,...................
