Standard colors for subtitles?
https://www.proz.com/forum/subtitling/225587-standard_colors_for_subtitles.html

Quote:
In Brazil, the standard color for video subtitles is pure yellow, with a black outline on the letters. This pervades all TV channels, commercial video, etc., though now and then I see white subtitles, with or without the black outline.

Most subtitles I see from the USA are white instead. The black outline is not as frequent as in Brazil. So whenever I translate and subtitle into English, I use white letters instead, .

Very humbling.

I understand that to be a Tomb Guard is second only to being an astronaut. A very high honor in the US Army.

Another picture of a Tomb Guard during a snow storm but this picture was prior to the Vietnam war and the guard is shouldering an M1 Garand.

If you go to Arlington, pay attention to the signs.

That's just a bit silly if you ask me.
It's ceremonial duty. In the US y'all have quite a bit of excessive focus on ceremonies and symbolism. Not that there is anything wrong with that.

But to state that it is second only to being an astronaut???
Not only is it very unrealistic, nor is it fair to all those people in the US that do very difficult jobs where the outcome of their efforts results in either life or death.

And as for high honor , it's special, it's something they earn, but surely it cannot be a higher honor then any combat medal earned by anybody who served in a warzone.

So it's just a weird statement to call the Sentinels second only to Astronaut

The surgeons in your picture are very highly paid skilled craftsmen but they didn't sacrifice their lives to protect their country. A admirable skill but not a noble person (unless they always do it all for virtually free and risk their lives doing it).
Soldiers risk paying the ultimate price for very poor reward and no fame. The guards honor those that paid the ultimate price and we don't even know who or where they are. Only the best of the best are worthy of honoring the ultimate sacrifice.

Tomb Guard and serving in a war zone are not mutually exclusive.

From a Google read many fall out after requesting a chance at the position. Includes front end screening, training and post training field testing.

What is the criteria? Damn. They must be serious about the best of the best.

Edit. Cripes. Forgot a pic.

Maybe I misstated. "The Tomb Guard Badge is the second-least awarded badge in the US Military, after the Astronaut Badge"

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guard,_Tomb_of_the_Unknown_Soldier_Identification_ Badge

However, it cannot be disputed that the highest honor to receive in the military would be the Congressional Medal of Honor.

A short 10 minute documentary of what it takes to become a Tomb Guard.

But they aren't better or more honourable then any grunt that got wounded in action or that got any other decoration or commendation for action they did in battle. Or even a regular joe schmoe that served away from family for a year, in the rear somewhere in A hole stan or I wreck or did gruesome shifts on board a carrier as a any color shirt on deck, or any regular sailor on a boat, on or under water.

Ceremonial duty cannot be more important then ACTUAL duty, that's what i'm saying.
It's ceremonial. There is NO risk.
The idea of remembrance they guard does not make them heroes themself.
Second only to Astronaut is what the OP said.. That's rubbish and you know it.

Don't tell me I have no understanding or respect for those who payed the ultimate price. We honour them every day in Ypres.. We stop traffic for it.
