Higgins is Irish. About the furthest from a German surname possible. Higgins is an Irish family name with ancient royal connections. It is an anglicisation of O'hUigin, from the Irish word 'uiginn' meaning Viking.

Irish Surname - Higgins

Cool airplane. I did a little work helping to restore this one for use by Everett Community College in their airplane mechanic program.

I saw one documentary about the crashes of the early British aircraft. It all came down to those windows. Had they had round windows initially they would have had a huge lead in the aviation industry, and may well have been the center of aircraft manufacturing. With the airplanes crashing no one wanted to fly on them, and they lost the lead.

I saw that documentary (I think twice). Fascinating. The people who died gave their lives for lessons learned. What other industry captures and applies lessons learned as well as the aviation industry? To some degree medicine maybe? Occasionally, rarely, the military?

Random:

The mustache became my silent last word in the verbal battles...with higher headquarters on rules, targets, and fighting the war. Returning home, however, marked the end of this flamboyance. When he reported to his first interview with Air Force Chief of Staff General John P. McConnell, McConnell walked up to him, stuck a finger under his nose and said, 'Take it off.' Olds replied, 'Yes, sir.' "(It) was the most direct order I had received in twenty-four years of service."
