He could well have been innocent in that, having no idea just what kind of a thread he was about to unleash. My granddad used to always say, "Know the room before you open your mouth." But hey...it's an honest mistake. It's also an easy one to take the wrong way.
You're correct... I should not have used the word "scammed", it truely does only have negative connotations. It was indeed, used as a lure, albeit, using a deep-sea Tuna lure on a minnow WAS a tad overkill to say the least. I ended up pissing many people off but eventually, got the desired response from Cris. The thing I guess I still have a problem with is this: If Cris had the time to post both his excellent apology as well as the flaming follow-up here, how come he didn't have time to send me a quick e-mail once my info landed in his hands? Since the RGruppe is not accepting members at the present time, it's not like he's receiving hundreds of cheques everyday like the PCA is... a club that did contact me immediately upon receiving my payment.

To sum up: incorrect wording in my response made me many new enemies as well as quite a few compatriots. It's nice to see that the RGruppe guys have so much pride in their club, we should all be envious, but I still think that some of the replies here were a tad harsh.

'Nuff said. Where's my beer?

by far the easiest thing to do is hate everyone equally. And live on an island. And have guns. Lots of guns. And liquor. And maybe a home for wayward 18-24 year old girls.

My 2cents

I was told about this post on Saturday morning at the R Gruppe run to Coronado for the races and just had a chance to read all the posts. Man, that was EXHAUSTING!
It's very intresting to me the level of passion being expressed by both sides. It's one thing to poke fun but, another thing when you poke someone's eye with a sharp stick. Then say it was his fault because he got angry or his friends jumped in to help defend him.
I for one have tried very hard to welcome all P-car people to any of the R Gruppe events we have had here in So Cal. The R Gruppe is 180o from being snobs but, we are not for everybody and don't try to be. Do you really think that any of us 911 guys would be welcomed with open arms to join a Boxter, 914, or any other type clubs if we showed up in our 911? If you have ever been to any of our events I think you will find that most of any negetive things you've heard about the R Gruppe just aren't true.
The R Gruppe was started to fill a void, sports purpose, hot rodded early 911's. It has always been leave your ego at home and bring you enthusiasm for late 60's to early 70's Porsches.

The Kool Aid Kids

Well Roger considering that I was working off a 270 odd member Registry Board at the time I did pretty well...

The R Gruppe is a cult and should change their name to the Kool Aid Kids aka Jones Town Boyz....

cegerer 10-14-2003 04:21 AM

I think it's time for the critics to come clean. How many of you have taken what sounded like just another cool idea over a few beers and actually developed it into a 300 person club? A club whose name has become part of the lexicon within the worldwide Porsche community to describe an entire genere of cars? A club whose annual event is arguably the premier early 911 event in the entire world? And then ask yourself if you write a periodic newsmagazine that blows away Excellence, 911 & P World, and Pano put together for early car info?

If you're still answering 'yes' to these questions, have you done it in your spare time while working at your 'real' job and raising a family? Have you done it without any financial compensation, but purely for the love of this particular type of Porsche?

DISCLAIMER: Before someone gets their underwear in a knot, this is a joke. But, like most jokes, there might be a shread of truth in there somewhere.

Uh...Dr. Be careful! Boy, are you lucky you asked me to assist today. That is the kick-someone-in-the-teeth nerve over there. Don't disturb that!! I accidentally disturbed that nerve during one of my brain surgeries and the results were disasterous.

This patient must belong to an exclusive club. It seems that in most patients, that nerve is located deep within the temporal lobe. However, in patients that belong to exclusive clubs, the nerve presents itself where it can be accidentally stimulated during a procedure. Once it is activated, the rest of the brain shuts down, normal function is suspended and the patient exhibits violent kicking and screaming.

Lother where's the punch line? no pun intended.:D

What do you call 6 pelican heads;) ;);) ;) ;) ;)in a basement discussing R Gruppe?

Whine cellar.;)

OK it was meant to be 6 pilots in a basement.

New rules, since the message content is gone, from now on with every new post you must at least provide a 900 series picture too.

What if the US had not adopted those silly 5 mph bumper requirements. Perhaps the 911 from 1974 forward would have been updated to this clean looking front and rear end forever more.

Is there really much else that separates the long-hood following from the scrappy mid-year and SC crowd?

So you're say'n the gruppmeister was acting like a baby. . .okay; I suppose you've got a valid point there.

Curt, seriously, by your logic, if Hillary Clinton makes some dumb-ass remark, you have no right to call her on it. . .because you've never been a Senator.

Does that mean that Island is going to rehab too? Umm...you got any spare oxycodone?

Island - criticize all you want, but don't whine about getting kicked (or punched) in the teeth for doing it! :D

Yes, I'm glad you understand the concept of equivocation. Perhaps you'll get to the point where you can see the OVERT usage in that "baby" line. (smiley was included, followed by the next "seriously" line to help distingish between "serious" and "fun word play")

"invite you outside for an ass whooping."
Is this more r-groupe reaching-out for that "degree of civility" ? (that was sarcasm, btw)

"If you want to join RGruppe, ask to join like you do any private club."
Now thats funny. If you havn't caught on, I don't care for "private clubs" . ..just call me island.

Island,

Don't you know that if you tell a joke about a liberal, you will be labeled a right wing, racist, homophobic reactionary. Only jokes about conservative Republicans are allowed because they can take a joke. Hell, they may even laugh along with you.

In all fairness, I would not have been so bold as to assume I know your political leanings because you made a comment suggesting that at some point Hillary might make a dumb statement. I know plenty of Republicans who wouldnt be surprised if George W. uttered something comical.

Politics aside, so far it has been exclusively R Gruppe members that have threatened to kick teeth in and give someone a whoopin'. I'm amazed at how we get from, "Gee, what happened to my $50?" to "You deserve to get your ass kicked!!!"

Has R Gruppe considered having their next event include anger management?

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1066156958.jpg

ted 10-14-2003 11:58 AM

Apathy management more like it?
As in like the pics but not interested in reading Lother's and Island's rhetoric.

The Chosen 300...Kool Aid Kids

You guys don't get it...talkin to the Kool Aid Kids is like talkin to the wall. They don't get it, they don't wana get it, so why waste your time. I've given up trying to reason with them, there is no reasoning with them. They are like the Storm Troopers of the Nazi era...ready to stomp anyone who says anything untoward about them. This blind following of their Fureher is really something to behold, it's as if the members suspend all good sense, all critical thinking and act almost in unison as robots in defending the party line. You really see a cult in the making here... the Chosen 300.

Some of you guys talk about the nice ones, the reasonable Kool Aid Kids...yeah in Nazi Germany there were nice ones too, reasonable ones too...but ultimately they stood on the sidelines and let the unreasonable ones do what they will...so they are morally as bankrupt as the rest of them in their lack of moral fortitude.

Boyz just because an apple looks good from the outside don't mean it ain't got a worm inside...

Careful now, Lynn. Did you exempt yourself from your list of those who brought up politics? The quote above shows that you were the first to put political labels on people in this thread. Oh, and wasn't that Rush Limbaugh crack yours too?

I was merely poking fun at your analysis of and reaction to Island's analogy. I would hardly call his comment a political jab. Besides, how do you know if Island is a right wing conservative? As for me, you have no idea what my political beliefs are, because I've never told you what they are. I never assume I have the majority opinion, nor do I care.

I will agree that there is no need for politics. There's already enough labeling going on around this thread.

This is the 50th most viewed thread with over 4800 views, according to a search I performed. I am assuming that it would be difficult to find a thread that did not contain "Porsche" somewhere in the thread.

If I lived in California I may be swayed to give Rgruppe a shot. But I have never been to California and probably won't be. I can't see paying $50 and getting nothing. Not trying to fan the flames. Like I said if I lived in California and could attend the events it would be different. Oh and here is my mandatory pic.
