After an auspicious start, my wife has been pretty much non-stop positive. When I was worrying about repair costs after the concrete incident, she said, "you love that car...just fix it...life is short." And "Excellence was Expected" was under the tree this year. So I can't complain too much...what's past is past. |
Well we're only 11 months down the road but she's been extremely supportive. She even went with to spend the day building dave's engine.. twice. I think the only one that's got me beat is MarkP. Ohh and she's crazy about too so that helps. She's definitly a keeper:D

Todd,
How is the car repair going? What was the final bill for the repairs? Hope all is going well, I've been following your "adventures" and am glad your wife is as understanding as mine! |
maybe done tomorrow, but we'll have to see. I'm also trying to get some 8s, so we'll see how that goes. Don't have a final bill yet.
|
Yeh, I can't complain. She technically bought the SC for herself. She didn't want to own another car with a top. We went to Ventura and have been on numerous drives this past summer. We had a blast driving in a rally. No complaints

I am lucky here. My wife loves the Porsches and loves her Cayenne. She also gets a lot of attention in her Cayenne, but she is a 30 year old hottie. She likes to drive the 996 series, but she does not like to drive my older Porsches I have had and currently own. As far as spending on mods, she does not say anything.

My car was a 50th birthday/25th wedding anniversary gift (or concession) from my wife. Other than that, I will not touch this thread with a ten foot pole.
|
Mark, you just may be the hands down winner. The only minus points you get are for living in a rainy wet state and you can't get out and drive as hard, or often, as you would like. ;-D
My wife, Carol, encouraged me to buy the S. She has always loved 911s but could never justify owning one on her own. But she could justify me buying one. While we were dating, she casually mentioned that for her 40th she rented and SC targa for a day and had a ball. When ever we talk about how much I just spent on the car she always smiles, gives me a kiss, and says she is glad I am able to do something I love. Next year she is going to AutoX school. I feel pretty damn lucky. |
I'm pretty lucky too. I bought my SC in May and my wife loved it so much that she had to have one too. So we sold her BMW convertible and bought a Carrera in August. Now when we go on Porsche drives, we take our own cars and communicate via walkie-talkies. We're going to start autocrossing in February so we gave each other racing helmets for our 20th wedding anniversary two weeks ago. Yeah, I'm pretty lucky to have a supportive Porsche loving wife who happens to be hottie as well!

My wife isn't real fond of the fact that I spend so much time & money on a car. A car is only transportation to her. She does want to know when & how much I spend, so I do alot of mumbling. Sometimes she reminds me that I need to redirect my enthusiasm toward the family. She hates my driving & isn't crazy about driving the 911. All in all she's pretty tolerant, I've been spending alot of money lately & as long as I keep the M/C under $3k she doesn't complain. She is the one that suggested I build a garage out back, probable to get me out of her mothers garage. Next year I plan to drag her & my son to some track events, hope it goes well.

First comment when I told my wife about buying a Porsche was, "what the hell are we going to with two cars". She doesnt drive, so... Well I got the 911 and she loves to take sunday trips in it, but no trackdays yet. No complains about money either, but a bit fed up with my buying and selling parts. She likes the 911, but when I told her I might get a 944, she said no Toyorsches (sorry frontengine guys) in this family. However a second 911 has been "approved".
911 3.2 -74 now with engine, but still no brakes ps. IŽll post some pics in couple of days |
My buddy asked: "What did your wife say when you brougth the 911 home"
She said "You, scoot over, I want to take it for a spin." :) The other night, I am changing the oil on her car. She says: I" need to go to ... to pick up pictures". I say "Take the 911". She comes back 1.5 hours later. I go: "How did the pictures turn out?" She: "Oh, I never made it to ..., I had so much fun driving the car, I just kept flooring it on the interstate and had some great fun. I'll pick the pictures up tomorrow!" Your wife doesn't have to do what you do. But it helps if the appreciate cars and combustion engines overall! George |
My wife has been very supportive of my expensive "hobby." She doesn't really like my track excursions (especially the off-track types!), but she knows it keeps my sanity.
She never complains about the Porsche, or the time and money it absorbs. Just today, we all piled in and went out for hamburgers. What a blast! Wife, Son, Porsche, then the Job... |
My woman, loves the orange vintage car .. she even cleans it for me .. doesnt get much better than that ;)

Still singel and can give my 930 the love it needs. all the chicks i meet sins i bought the 930 has been like "B&L" you now.... Great to here there so many sympathetic women's out there. /Jocke |
Mine pushstarts the brown car. I cant ask for much more support of the hobby than that.
|
My wife is pretty cool about my Porsche obsession....she understands the air/water cooled thing, lets me drive the car hard when she is riding shotgun, even convinced me to buy a
Targa ! I keep telling her the next 911 wil be a 94 3.6T or a 993 TT, her answer is always..."you have a great car, why do you need another one?" A few weeks ago, she gave me the green light on a Turbo, said we should keep the Targa ;) She really wants a convertible, I keep hoping she would go for a 911 cab.... she's a nurse & says after a 12 hr shift she wants to cruise with the top down. We saw a GTO the other day & that was it, she said before I get my Turbo, she is getting herself a 1967 GTO convertible :D ...works for me |
My wife got me Skip Barber as a present two years ago, then went with me. And we're going back, too. She's not into racing at the track, but digs AutoX. We go to the Monterey Historics every other year, and she can tell a 356A from a B, and has basically said "Fill up the garage, if you want - just remember, I get to drive them too"
|
Why hasn't Motion chimed in here yet? I know he must have some commentary on this subject.
|
Although my wife isn't happy when I buy parts (my son's hockey ice bill consumes the upgrade money) she always refers to the SC as "our Porsche". :)
