Laurie started out not really caring for my Porsche all too much. However, slowly over the years, she has drastically changed her view on this.
At one point I had lost all interest in the project and put her (the project) up for sale...Laurie wouldn't have any of that, 'strongly reccomended' that I should never sell it, only purchase additional 911's to give the project some company. Now, she absolutely refuses to allow me to purchase another vehicle unless it's a Porsche! She accompanies me to every event I go to, has been known to clean parts for me, and even crawl under a 911 to do a little wrenching. Life is good over here! :D |
My wife tolerates the car. Hates it and gives me greef when I go to DE events. Gives me an attitude when I spend time in the garage "caring" for the car. Now she has basically forced me into selling it by buy a new mini-van. Can't swing two loans these days.
Anyone who gets an iota of support from their SO, is damn lucky. |
Uh boy. Reading some of these reminds me why I'm still single and searching for THE one. I wouldn't say the car has to come before everything else. But it's a good test to see which ladies have long-term potential. If they hate any hobby of mine, well, then the seach shall continue.

My wife refers to the 911 as "that damned car".
She doesn't like it when I spend time working on the car instead of doing stuff for her. She doesn't like it when I spend money on the car. She hates it when I take an entire day to spend with my Porsche buddies or to go racing. But...... she is smart enough not to say anything or at least say very little that could be construed as complaining or nagging. She knows I will jump right down her throat and tell her where the door is. Yes, it really does work that way in my house. She and I both know I am full of it, but she lets me bluff. I pretend that I will kick her out of the house and she pretends to believe it. The "looks" she gives me are enough to let me know she isn't really happy, but my grunts and glares back are enough to let her know not to cross the line :) When I spend a lot of time with the car or my Porsche friends it is understood that I "owe" her and she gets to do something in return. The other day she hit me with a carefully worded question that I couldn't get mad at her about. She said "why do you always have to take apart cars that are running fine?" I didn't have a reply for that as I stared at the engine sitting on the dolly. |
Sammy, your wife's question gives me a good idea for another topic - excuses we use on our women for time and money spent on the P-car. I'll start this thread soon enough. Oh, the colorful answers.

Richard--
Paste this in as the first reply: "But honey, by me doing the work we're actually SAVING money." |
I'm the luckiest guy on this thread, by far. My wife not only loves our '86 Carrera, but she loves driving it on the track and is getting to be REALLY fast, too! She turned a 2:02 at Sears Point on Saturday with our pretty stock Euro car on Toyos. I've gotta watch my back, because she's going to be going faster than me sometime in the next year - I can just see it.
She's become a full-on Porsche nut, just like the rest of us. Now, the downsides... I have to fight her to be the first to read Excellence when it (eventually) arrives in the mail. When there are "extra" sessions on the track, we have to wrestle to see who gets the extra track time. We had to upgrade to Turbo brakes because with two drivers we were cooking them. My tires and brake pads only last half as long as my friends with disinterested wives... Gee, do you think the benefits outweigh the negatives?? :) Dean |
I'll admit...I was a little afraid to pull this thread up. ;)
That was great to read so many wonderful things people had to say about their significant others. :) I've also been lucky that Tim has always been very supportive of me wanting a porsche and even made it a priority to get the 930 before he got his dream car. |
Dean it sounds like you need to get another car for you or the wife. That way you don't have to fight over it. Just make sure it's in another class, so she doesn't show you up too bad:p

Sam, I give my engineer's reply...I'm re-engineering, Porsche built for the masses, I'm building for an engineer. Heather has gotten use to my enginerdy ways, so it's hard for her to argue :D
Sarah: Always wondered if you were the primary on the 930 and if Tim ever gets to drive that thing.... |

I would have to say I am the "primary owner" ;) but if we counted actual hours in the driver seat...Tim has more time in...maybe someday i'll pass him up though. :)

I´m blessed with a girlfriend who let me build a garage and buy a 911 for meself.
Giving me all support I ever need, coming in the garage with fresh coffee and do some peptalk when I´m hit a wall in my time in the garage and always understanding why all moneys disappear to the Porsche and her ´61 Bug is sitting outside and waiting for the turn. I´m a lucky bastard really, count in I´m deaf and it´s not many girls out there that have sign language as first language and understand my Porsche interest. |

My 23-year-old daughter's name is above the driver's side window of our 290-hp 911SC track car, because she's the best driver in the family. Mine is over the passenger-side window. And next time we do a PCA DE, our wife/mother has finally agreed to track her Boxster.

Claudia has been extremely supportive of both 911s. She's been to many of my POC events (although she really doesn't care for Willow Springs in the summer). She's the one who really encouraged me to get a 993 six months ago. Now, if I can only get her to learn how to drive my car!

My wife loved driving my 85 Carrera and still bugs me about selling it. On the other hand, she took an instant disliking to the 76 930 which replaced -- too loud, too low, too nice for an old car. She had me make the friend I sold the 911 to promise to sell it back to us if he ever changed his mind.
She tolerates my vintage and endurance racing, and seems to think my old Cessna is cool, so I can't complain. FoxVintageRacing |
When I met my wife , she had a C4. We sold that and now have the targa and a really nice kitchen in the new house. She is also the one who climbed in and helped me fix the linkage when it broke on the road. She is a keeper for sure loves fast cars, snowmobiles and motorcycles. She climbed into a buddies car at Pocono and zipped around the track at 180. Wanted to know if we could fit a GT into the budget.
I should mention that she bought my present ride for Valentines day. Not bad huh? |
no girlfriend and no wife (yes, I need to get out more) and I am preparing for the worst. My last date (an unfortunately many others) wanted to know if one of my cars was a Toyota Prius, because that was their dream car. They actually light up when they say Prius. this has happened 3 times in the last 2 months. Scary. I've actually been scolded once!
Therefore, I figure that if I have 3 cars now, the most she (future wife) can make me get rid of is 2, so I'm still ahead. that said, the 69 would be perfect for a lady racer. If only I could find one. Here's a thread: where did you meet your "pro-Porsche wife?" S |
