My wife who I met 3 1/2 years ago is jealous of the SC that I've had for six years. She says I care more about the car then I do about her, which is not true. When she complains about how much time I spend working on it I remind her how much money we're saving, and that since I'm an ameteur mechanic I'm pretty slow at most anything I do to the car. I actually haven't spent any time working on it for a while because we've been so busy, and because of that it's been sitting waiting for me to get around to brakes, oil change, and gear oil change.

She also doesn't like the car. She doesn't like how it smells, and that it doesn't have A/C. I know she would prefer I just got rid of it, but I don't think she'd ever ask me to because she knows I love the car so much. She would never let me buy one now though so I'm glad I got it before we ever met.

OK, the office is now becoming a second bedroom, ads will be posted, women will be interviewed, maybe a Harvard grad student, engineering or bio would be nice.

James, sent you an email. Rust may be terminal. Will most likely need to look for a roller.

If your wife/SO/Girlfriend was drowning and your Porsche was rolling off the end of the pier....and you could only rescue one.....who would it be?

surflvr911sc 12-29-2003 05:34 PM

Oooo, foul!

Shaun @ Tru6 12-29-2003 05:37 PM

depends on insurance values I would imagine

RSBob 12-29-2003 06:00 PM

Excellent!

Wayne, Jack posted a photo once, and well, Jack is a lucky (and talented) guy.

My better half hates the car, and the time I spend, but it may have something to do with her 1st pregnancy and my being away every weekend at some blasted a/x. Her comment on this whole thread was "how many of the understanding spouses have kids?"

Mine is not fully insured and the wife has big boobs....so she "should' float.....%^B

Still Waiting for mine, but . . . .

I convinced my wife that I should buy a "classic sports car" rather than replace my Lexus with another current sporty version. As I leaped into the passion, she lamented that she had ever agreed.

Then I found one, and we had a number of "discussions" about the cost climbing as I got more into what I wanted done during the restore. She then started planning a "week in New York" when we go to pick up the car, and started looking at B&B's to use on my VG E driving weekends.

She will ride in the car as long as I take it easy, have the A/C on, the Targa top off and the windows up (gotta keep my hair neat). And she is willing to go to a Pcar event once a year, as long as we don't spend more than an hour there.

All in all, she is very supportive. Let me buy the car even though we had a wedding to pay for. So, I can't complain. So, I'll go to my PCA events solo. Not so bad. She just laughs when I show people pictures of my car on my PDA - "Oh, I already showed it to you?" And now that I have a Porsche varsity jacket, she just smiles knowingly at her mid-50's teenager.

Oh well, so it goes.

Where do these supportive girls come from? My wife calls it the smelly car that makes our garage smelly. She also says it sounds like the UPS truck every time I drive up the lane. She tolerates it only because she can justify a new pair of shoes and shopping spree every time a package is delivered from pelicanparts. Since she is a stay at home mom, it is a stretch to justify new shoes and outfits for the benefit of my three and six year old sons.

I've owned my 72' 911 for 1yr and a month now, but before I could buy it she keep giving me excuses. They are as follows;
1. You need a better job, OK 98'
2. Now you need a house with a garage, OK 99'
3. Now you need cash in hand-no loans, OK 02'

I will give her credit for supporting me choosing the 72' over an 83 SC! She really doesn't like old things, so it really surprised me.
OK And for understanding that we only take Gretta out on fair weather days.

Lets assume that the interest in cars, etc. started before the 911 arrived.. So she knows what the act is already.

IMO the best way to routinely keep them relaxed is let them know early that nothing lasts forever.
So if they have to leave.. "please don't forget to leave the house keys on the counter."

"it's a guaranteed method in the art of cave man action....... Ron"

LOL, does anyone know why cavemen used to drag their women around by the hair?

surflvr911sc 12-30-2003 08:31 AM

Why??

My Girlfriend actively supports my Porsche folibles. She bugs me to let her drive the 914 I have, and has driven us in her car 400 miles on the weekend to see some 911's I've been considering.

She calls them "our" Porsches, she has asked to take the wheel for a short time in both test drives we have done in 911's. She gives me tools for Xmas, and my Birthday, and reads the Porsche boards I follow about once a month, to keep up with what is happening. When I wrench on the car she will willingly help with pedal pumping, and gearshift wiggling. She helped me pick out the color scheme for the 914 when its done.

She likes 911, but is more interested in us getting her a 914/ or Boxster of her own.

She has pointed out a place on her property I could pour a slab and build a garage for Porsches.

I didn't metion her name, or location on purpose!

After careful concideration I chickened out on posting the punch line to the joke. It isn't dirty but prolly isn't appropriate for this forum.
Maybe I can get Mikey to post it for me? ;)

PS how do you keep pelicanites in suspense?

The only car my wife loves more than the 911 is our '58 Bugeye Sprite. She thinks A/C is for wusses. Can't take her with me when I look at old cars because she blurts out how great she thinks the car looks and how we should buy it. She would also rather see me working in the garage then hanging out in a bar or watching tv.

MY83SC 12-30-2003 09:14 AM

I had only been married for 4 months when we bought MY83SC. We were still in the "Honeymoon" stage then, and it wasn't hard convincing her. :)

JTO 12-30-2003 09:16 AM

OK, I need to chime in. My wife and I now have three kids and have been married for 13 years. We have been exclusive for 20 years. Our first cars were bugs. I was in the process of hot rodding/restoring a '67 Karman Ghia when we met. She has always known me as a car guy. So, after years of pining for a 911, I finally got one. We didn't have the money but SHE figured out a way to get the cash together and make it happen for me. Now, she has tempered the restoration on the 911 a bit, but for good reasons like, " you can't go into debt to pay for these repairs". Well, I did go into debt a little but am working an extra job to pay that credit card off.

She likes to go to PCA events in the car. She smiles at me and my love for the car warmly. She has kept me from selling it several times. She encourages me to do DEs and get the kids involved when they are older. And, she drives the car well.

On top of it all, I think she is beautiful. I am blessed.
