I am very lucky to be married to my wife,we celebrated 25 years of marriage last June,she is the mother of my 2 sons and she has no problem with my Porsche passion!!! I am currently on my 3rd Porsche in 10 years and she has enjoyed each one of them,she isn't into driving a standard shift anymore so she doesn't drive them but she happily joins me in the car and has attended several Porsche events including rallys,never a complaint.She never says a word when I purchase parts or accessories,but sometimes gives me the look that says"I think you are crazy",but she understands my passion for the car and that I could be out bar hopping or worse,I'm looking forward to the next 25 years!!!

It depends on their mood. My SO has been known to call it a "junky car" that "sounds like a lawnmower." I've been told I work on the car more than pay attention to her.
At the other end of a spectrum, it took very little persuasion to get her to jump in the car for a weekend trip (no ac, no radio, full rollcage w/ door bars, no seatbelts other than 5pt, stiff ride, Sparco buckets to sit in, 5 hour ride each way, middle of the summer.) She also gets mad when she is not attending to the track with me. Most importantly, she looks great, especially when she's handling the 915 tranny... go figure. |
My wife of 21 yrs is completely tolerant of my interest/expenses re: the car. She has no interest however, herself and won't drive it. She feels that the clutch pedal 'kicks back' and doesn't think she can do it.

Never married...but as I get older my anal habits re my cars are getting worse. My present gf is understanding but I only see her about 2x /week and if I want to spend a Sunday w/my newly acquired 70 T/Z3 coupe she gets VERY unhappy because she considers the weekend OUR time. I think when you live w/someone they can learn to understand and even accept / enjoy our passion...some of you are very lucky.....

Finding a girl in to P-cars is great, finding a girl with a whole family of P-car nuts thats the goldmine. I use to dread hangin out with the in-laws. Now it's great were talking about what color to restore the next car with at Christmas dinner. And her father even picks me up to take me to the Pomona Swap Meet, keeping me in line.

My wife knew she was marrying someone with a serious Porsche problem. Like stacks of tires in the living room. 2 911's in pieces and a pristine 930 that wasn't running.
She got me energized into working on them again, and persuaded me to buy this one.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1072840016.jpg Yep, she said that she just loves the sound of the sport muffler! |
where'd Mckenna go? i'll bet he's scared :D

My bride of nearly 25 years (March '04 is that milestone) is very supportive of my p-car habit. I do zero of my own work on it, so she knows we own a 20-year-old, fabulously engineered car that needs a pro's hands on it regularly. She doesn't drive it ("steering is too stiff, clutch is too hard to press," etc.) but enjoys the ride.
I, too, have been blessed! Cheers! C. |
My wife has owned more Porsches than I have. When I say 'owned.' I mean primary driver. We live in a community property state, so we both own them, technically.
Her lot in order: '77 Targa, 72 914, '60 356 coupe and the Boxster. (Targa and '72 914 at the same time.) My lot in order: '72 914, '73 914 (race car) and the '71 911S She also bought a '67 VW new and much later in life brought home a '67 VW convertalble that she bought at a wrecking yard. We restored it. She bought an Austin Healy 3000A years ago when married to her former husband. He made her sell it; she divorced him. Guess I know where cars stand in her life. Soon after we met, she took some of her divorce settlement money and bought the '77. We had it for 15 years. SHE put over a 100,000 on it. She doesn't like the track and she doesn't work on cars even to wash them, except on occasion. For her, Porsches are to drive, not to fuss over. But, she'll park out in the north 40 to keep from getting a door ding. My wife drove the S for the first time last Thursday, New Year's Day. I can say that I think she'll let that one alone. And she says I drive the cars WAY too fast and hard. I agree, that's why I drive a PU every day. She goes to Dunkels, Pomona and Ventura with me. Her favorites are always the 356's. I'll get her another one some day. If she had her choice, it would be a red '65 SC sunroof coupe with a luggage rack. And she would drive it daily, I have no doubts on that. |
MarkP;
May have you beat. She didn't know what it was when i finally showed up with it for a date, after we had been going out for 6 months. Asked what it was and then didn't recognize the name. Now together for 20 years, married for 14. Started doing DE's 5 years ago, instructor for several regions. up to SCCA and presently owns the track record at NHIS in her class. Runs her own car, that i can't drive. Also runs a Ducatti on the track too Has very rarely made any noise on any car purchase or car part/tool, including tire changer for home. she has helped do every bit of work i have on all of our cars (porsche and others), understands how to drop an engine, bleed brakes and all Best of all we are best friends and i still think she is the hottest looking chic i have ever laid eyes on. Best story of the year was when another hot chic complained to the chief instructor at a DE that her boyfriend couldn't have my wife as an instructor. My wife questioned what she was going to do with the green student at 100mph.................as if he couldn't drive already. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1073277177.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1073277230.jpg |
