"respect the individuals right to do what he/she wishes, this is america after all"

"Get off your high horse, live and let live, Your Rights end at the begining of my nose."

What a crock...smoking is a filthy, disgusting, and dangerous habit and inflicting it on others is the epitome of self-centered rudeness.

How was that? After 30 years of smoking 2 packs of Kools a day and being smoke free for the last year, I'm practicing being a holier-than-thou non-smoker.

By the way, over the years I've thrown 1000's of butts out the window...I apologize.

Back in my younger days when all I had was a motorcycle to ride I actually had a tossed cigarette bounce up, hit me in my chest and fall into my crotch.

Lets just say I was quite pissed and grabbed that butt and snuffed it asap.

When I caught up to that car at the next red light I pulled right up to that ****ers window, got his attention and chucked that thing at his face.

I only wish that his window was down when this happened.

Wow, thats exactly what Im talking about I once tossed a 13mm socket out the window at some f#<& that almost ran me off the road...also pulled the penny deal a couple times. However, I would never do anything to a fellow P-car.

When I ride I keep a handful of rusty nuts and bolts in my jacket pocket for just that reason.

Smokers Rights! I don't want to miss out on any of my "rights" as a free proud American. Can someone please suggest a good brand and maybe how many I should smoke per day. Thanks in advance.

I must have missed the amendment that guarantees our right to flick flammable debris onto the roadways the last time I read the constitution.

Regretfully, I smoke. And, I smoke in my 911. Let me tell you though, the first time I hit some twisties and had a butt in my hand I d@mn near wrapped the car around a tree. Guess I get it from my dad who used to smoke while driving. He even lit up the back seat one time in our family car when he tossed a lit butt out the window and it was sucked back into the car. He apologizes as well.

I have had someone in front of me throw a cig out their window, had the thing lodge somewhere in the front of my car (not the 911) so that the 60 mph wind cause the thing to burn through the rest of the cig and then the filter. Unfortunately the smoke from all of that burning ended up coming right through my vents. I was PISSED. Have you ever smelled a burnt filter?? Not pleasant, but as much as I hate people throughing cigs out there window, I'm not about to throw pennies, nuts, bolts, etc out of my window at them.

I hate smoking and never have, but that seems extreme. Especially these days when people are willing to shoot and kill for next to no reason.

But for every person that does throw butts out side or out of their car wouldn't you just love to dump a really big ashtray full of butts, some lit, into their driver's seat or on top of their couch or bed. THAT seems a fitting repayment.

With today's cigarette taxes, please be kind to smokers...think of it as them being patriotic..

This all goes back to our police force -- they're too busy trying to figure out who's speeding to worry about the ones who are risking people's lives and property by tossing flaming embers around on the roads. Maybe if they weren't so preoccupied with stupid things, we could persuade them to do something useful?

As to the "rights" argument -- yes, you do have the right to smoke in your own house. You also have the right to smoke in posted smoking places. You can even smoke in your own car, if you want. Heck, you can smoke in a posted hotel room, or in a rental car, if you like. But when you leave a hazardous ember in the airstream behind your car, you put other people at risk -- your rights have just reached their limits, as they have just imposed upon my space.

Do I hate smokers? No, I know a bunch, and they're a pretty reasonable cross-section of society. Only problem is that every once in a while, there's some @#$% smoker who does something stupid and gets the whole lot of smokers a bad reputation. Same could be said of Porsche owners, come to think of it.

Dan

PS -- having just finished my first valve adjustment, I now have a nice big collection of 13mm nuts and washers that I don't know what to do with. This thread just gave me a _great_ idea.

As a smoker here's what I propose should be done:

1) On each pack of cancer put a picture of a dying man with lung cancer saying "smoking kills"

2) On candy bars, put pictures of rotten, disgusting teeth saying "candies destroy your teeth"

3) On each can of beer and liquor bottle, put pictures of a car accident victim with missing limbs bleeding to death on the side of the road saying "drinking kills"

4) On every shirt, hats and Nike shoes, put pictures of 10yo slaves who are sewing them in a dark cave somewhere in Taiwan for $0.10 a day so we can wear them and throw them out after 6 months when they're no longer fashionable.

5) At the gas pump put pictures of detroyed oceans and dying animals, or even picture of 6yo kids in the middle east who's lives, countries and families have been destroyed by wars so we can go steal their oil.

Sorry I think I'm getting pissed now...how about we do this:

On every dollar bill print this: "Harmful to humanity"

I'm gonna go have a smoke...
