Why do so many own both BMW 2002 and 911?
I own both a 1971 911E Targa and a 1971 BMW 2002. '71 was a great year!
![]() I've noticed a lot of other Pelicanites have both vehicles, why do you think that is? Does it take a similar mentality to be interested in both vehicles? What are your reasons? Here are some pics of my 2002: http://poseur.4x4.org/2002.htm Unfortunately, I have to sell it now to make room for the 911. I need to take a picture of both of them together before they are separated for good. Anyone have any pics of both their 911 and 2002 together? Two of Germany's best! |

Because they are two of the coolest cars ever made!

I love those cars. I had a 73 1602 when I was stationed at Ramstein AB. It was like driving a gocart, not terrible fast, but very well balanced. It was well suited for tearing in & out of villages & fun to slide around on rainy days. I would love to have another someday.

I don't own a 2002 at the moment, but I have owned one in the past. I owned a '76 2002 and a 72 914 at the same time. Both were great cars. I still dream about getting a 2002 for my wife to drive.

Although I'm sure there are some exceptions to this rule on this board, I think the natural inclination towards quality and performance that 911 owners have leads them in their earlier, leaner-budget years, to the 2002.
Now that my '02 resto is done, I can't wait to get pix of the 930 and the '02 side-by-side. JP

That car on ebay is sweet. At 15 K at the moment. Although it is one of the cleanest I've seen in a long time, I think for that kind of money I would be looking at a 914/6 or older SC. Sweet car though.

I think it's because they are both "cool" and are products of the "less is more" method of engineering. I have always admired both the 911 and the BMW Bavaria and 2002.

This thread almost brings a tear to my eye. Here I am in 1988 with my very first car - 1970 2002 with a '74 front end. All I have left from this car is the wooden steering wheel that hangs on my wall. I cannot wait to own another one. A 3.0cs will be in my stable one day too.

I just sold my 2002 a few months ago. What a great car; Weber, Stahl header, open Ansa exhaust, Alpinas, Bilsteins, Scheel seats, a great ride. I miss it. Nothing turns sideways in the rain like an '02. The ass is so light and the stock gears as so deep that you can break the little sucker loose almost anywhere. Tons of fun to drive.

I went the other way, 911 first then the 2002. It could have easily gone the other way if I'd driven a decent 2002 earlier in life.
One thing I really like about the 02 is the ventilation. It's a much more comfortable car to drive in warm weather. The '02 will be lowered soon. ![]()

they are sweet. this was a wonderfully german stable of cars i had a few years back. the bimmer was a 77 530i that i got from the original owner (my grammy!). it is the big brother to the 2002.
the a4 wagon was phenomenal, the ml320 was the worst. joe 68 L ![]() |

Tod -
What freaking ventilation have you got? I roast in the '02 when it's hot out. Even if I had a/c, there's no face-level ventilation. Please, if there's a solution, let me know! ![]() Your '02 looks to be the same color mine was prior to the resto -- faded Atlantik blau. Mine had spent years roasting in the TX sun, so when I washed it, the sponge came away blue. My solution was to stop washing it before I removed all the paint. JP

It's Riviera, a little lighter in person than the picture.
The ventilation is not exactly modern, but it's way better than my T. The small front vent windows make a big difference, and the seating is much higher relative to the windows. My 911 has opening rear windows, but still seems to hold heat unless you're moving. The 2002 gets hot, but never much hotter than it is outside.

Hmm, I used to own a run-out '75.
And I used to complain to JP about NO FACE LEVEL VENTILATION! Har!
