I'd have never driven it period! I once loaned a seriously hopped up Mustang to an employee of mine so he good run to the store and get some supplies we needed. I explained in great detail that he'd better respect my car. Well after 2 hours passed for a 30-45min trip I got worried, then I got a phone call from the police telling me my car was in the impound lot and asking whether I'd given permission to drive it. Turns out the guy outran the cops in it only to be caught by a detective who happened to be in the right place at the right time. Bottom line I fired the guy, paid to get my car out, and spent several days checking everything. So no one drives my cars now unless I'm riding with them and even that is rare. On the other hand I did ask the owner of an original 427 Cobra for a ride and not only did he take me on a ride he let me drive back and even encouraged me to get in it a bit. Sure we had a love of Ford motors in common and I let him really get into the throttle on my car but that's two enthusiasts enjoying each others cars not some stranger joyriding around. Some might say that I'm a bit jaded, having driven extremely fast drag cars at the local dragstrip a Lambo just wouldn't be that fast to me but still I just couldn't drive someone elses car without their permission in good conscience.
In the end it doesn't matter what kind of car it is, how much effort went into building it or whether or not the owner can afford another one, if it doesn't belong to you then you have no business driving it. |
This isn't about 'getting worked up over a car'. To me, this is about basic ethics.
And for those ethics differ, think about this: the owner of the car did not give any of those joyriders permission and therefore, any accident that happened in the car would not have been covered by any insurance. Talk all you want about the trivial cost of Diablo bumpers, but people who lose control of the cars they're driving sometimes damage people, not just car parts. |
everybody sues everybody as far as i can tell over there in the US, but if everybody would just be a little bit more into common sense and ethics, lawyers would have a lot less work...
if it were your car and you could prove it...you'de be screaming hell and murder and looking for a lawyer to sue anybody involved. and any scratch on it , any visible wear on the car, even if it wasn't from the joyride would have been on the claim. but to try and justify driving somebody's car without consent, as once in a lifetime chance, blablabla i got away with it... that's not right, by nobody's standards. |
I wonder if the driver would have thrown you the keys to his truck?
Also, if someone posted pictures of themselves hooning about in my car on the internet, I would have their lips torn off and stuck in their ears. |
Couldn't do it. I would be way too frightened that something terrible would happen. I'd probably give in to sitting in them but not doing the joyride thing. I would be pissed beyond belief if one of those had been mine. Something that I would keep in mind is the long eyes/arms of the web, somehow this thread or the pics are going to wind up where Marky or Jodie or the lover of Layla will see it/them. Then watch out. Don you're a lucky guy, I think?
|
Man, if I did that, Mark McGwire would break me like a twig. And I'd have to agree with him.. . :(
|
Wow, you guys really ARE worked up. Man, get over it.

Read this thread for a perspective of an car owner to whom this has happened. Then, tell me if you still think it is a "cool" thing to do.

Never said it was "cool". Was the car damaged? No.
Let it go, man, let it go. |
No way, no way would I have driven it... put yourself in the owner's shoes. Would you want someone joy-riding your baby? I'm sure you wouldn't. I can't believe that any of you would condone this.

I definately would have driven it, but in no way would have thrashed or driven it hard...
Just the enthusiast in me to experience a car like that.. |
If you want to drive a Lamborghini, why not go to a dealer and drive a new one WITH PERMISSION!
Unauthorized use is a crime in all 50 states. I'm not sure the "Well, the truck driver said I could" defense would hold up. |
Me thinks someone will be looking for a new job/carreer after the owner of the Lambo finally receives it.
I would be steamed. |
That truck driver is going to wind up in the hospital.......
having Mark McGuire's foot removed from his ass! :D |
If it wasnt yours and you didnt have permission to drive it, then it was wrong to drive it. Simple as that.
No point crying over spilt milk though. I think a moderator should delete this thread, before word of it spreads, and things escalate. |
I agree with Doog.
Seriously. Remember that Ford mechanic who took a customers Cobra conv't out for a joy ride then bragged about it on an internet chat room? The owner got wind of it and was able to really burn the wrench, and dealership. The moderators and or original poster can delete this. Don, all things aside, I'm very happy for you and your new purchase. Looks to be a really prettly little car! |
I call BS on most of you critical types, I think many giving the self-rightous lectures to our friend Don here would have taken the opportunity as well, hell I know I would have. I don't personally know Don, but I do know that if he is the three year old that many of you are addressing him as, he is a gifted child.:D Lighten up, it's a car. Would I be pissed if someone did it to mine, of course! I'd raise holy hell with the shipping company, and try to at least get my money refunded, but I wouldn't sue anyone. Like svandamme says, everybody sues everybody else over everything in this country anyway, why congest the courts anymore. Plus, my appeal against Mc Donald's is still pending.:D Really, if he wrapped one of those cars around a tree it would be one thing, but just a little ride? I seriously doubt if Don or any of his neighbors even exersised half of the Lambo's potential, knowing the value of a car your driving can be intimidating. I know when I drove my wife's boss's XK8 coupe, I often caught myself going under the speed limit, just knowing how much it cost. That, and the fact that wrecking your wife's boss's car can have repercussions beyond just repairing the car.;) Anyway, lighten up, it's just a car, everything's fine, except some truck driver will probably be getting canned very soon.

Oh yeah, post some pics of your car, looks to be a very nice little T.
