best all-time baseball player

from what i've heard, Williams was simply fantastic to watch

In all honesty, I would rank the top 3 of all-time
1) Mays
2) Ruth
3) Williams

Even though Williams is my all-time favorite player

I talked to my dad. He says Williams (and he saw him play). He said Gwynn was a great hitter, but Williams was amazing. Could hit for average and power. Quickest hands and best eyes ever.

And as a point of reference my dad played sandlot ball in San Diego and had tryouts with both the Cubs and Cardinals as a pitcher. They both offered him contracts, but he decided to go to college instead (he was back from WWII, just married, and had finished his senior hear in HS). He went on to pitch fast pitch softball for the next 30 years or so...

Because of what today (April 15th) means to true baseball fans - I have to throw Jackie Robinson's name in the hat. All the other players might've had better stats, but Jackie's were impressive and I think he changed the game in a way none of the others did.

Aside from that it's between Ruth & Williams. . . I'm pondering it still. . .

well, another to consider is Satchel Paige. If he had played in the bigs during his prime his number would have been amazing...

Yeah I considered mentioning Satchel Paige in this discussion... he was said to have been one of the most amazing players to ever play the game. Too bad our country wasn't quite what it is today...
