Have you seen the Nick Berg beheading video?

Would you watch it if you had the opportunity? Personally, there's no way I could watch it. I had a tough time watching the wasps devour the bees. Brutal, violent images disturb me for days. I'm not sure why... maybe it reminds me of my immortality?

Don't know if I'll watch it, but I heard it on the radio. Makes you lose faith in the human race. Truely sick and twisted. I hope I can get it out of my head.

I've seen still shots on someone else's computer on Drudge Report, and what Steve posted here. It's fairly hard to take.

I'd watch it if someone could dubb in the William Tell Overture at double speed.

Bad haircut.

Yeah, i've seen it, just today in fact. Just like you motion, i'm really disturbed by it. Stuff like that doesn't sit well with me. Although on one hand, i'm glad i did see it. I'll be a comissioned AF officer in 3 years and this sort of thing only strengthens my resolve and commitment to help prevent things like this from taking place in the future. I was enraged more than i was disgusted. War or not, these kinds of things should not be happening.

Me too. It brought back the Sept. 11 anger all over again.

Like it or not, we are at war with a religion. Don't think so? Watch the video.

First, I had my share of body recoveries in a job I had in the late '60s/early '70s, & I don't feel like looking at another gruesome sight. Second, I agree with Moses about the religion point, although I think we are dealing with a portion of the people in that religion - not a majority (I hope). Third, I support the war, but I wish Bush & our illustrious Secretary of Defense would send the resources we need to do the job. This is like Vietnam all over in that respect.

Have to agree. Although I don't think we should have sent our kids there, having done so, not equipping them with body armor and failing to deliver more than one meal a day -- in the early days of the war -- was inexcusable.

IMO, that’s a sad statement. We are at war w/ terrorist, who happen to be religious extremists. Have we not seen horrible acts carried out by extremists of other religions?

I will not watch the video, I know what happens and that upsets me enough. I wish that everyone would refuse to watch it, isn’t that what they want?

I was drafted in '64. Some probably won't agree with what I say, but the draft was a good thing for a lot of guys. It got them out of the neighborhood, opened up their minds about the world, gave them some training in jobs they could make money at after they got out (sometimes), and made them eligible for the GI Bill. Too bad those kinds of things had to take place within a military context. , though.

Ryan, you make a good point. It is easy to lump religion into this fight for propaganda purposes. However, religion can't be discounted. After all, our position against Iraq and their religious extremism is based partly on our own religious extremism of being Christian based. Even in Bush's own words, he's been called to this duty of freeing Iraq by God.

In another thread in this forum, several posters entered an Islamic website and harangued the site's thoughts and ideals. One poster even said he felt "dirty" after reading it. That's the kind of attitude that has gotten us in such hot water in the Middle East from the beginning. A refusal to understand or learn.

The fact is, religion has its part in exclusivity, and as a country, we're displaying this same exclusivity. In fact, Democracy is an exclusive club in and of itself.

Another example is Israel: Sharon in his heyday was known as a cold-hearted assassin. An extremist if you like. A terrorist, whose ideology is based in religion via the establishment of a Jewish state.

Please elaborate Dave. The last time I check there was a lot of peace loving Muslims in Christian based American that weren’t just here to eradicate the infidels.

That's funny. Some of the words didn't show on your post. Here's what it really said:

I have no want or need to see this video.

Perhaps it should be banned out of respect to this persons family....instead, it is plastered all over the internet, to satisfy some perverse morbid curiosity that exists in most humans.

Why should it be such perverse curiosity? Isnt the human body, just a machine with moving parts?

Of course it is more than that. A mans soul was attached to that body, and it was violently and carelessly taken away from him by cowards dressed in black with masks.

Lets hope those cowards get similar treatment someday.

Getting back to the topic.... no this video will not be on my wish to see list.

Exactly true. What I fail to point out, but I thought was obvious given the context in which yours and my statement appear is that those who are intent on continuing our action in Iraq base some of their issues in religion. While there are those (al Queda in particular) who use and interpret their religion as a base from which attacks on the west is justified.

All I'm saying is it depends on the user and intepretation - not necessarily the religion.

The brutality of Mr Berg's murder and very public way in which he was killed has stunned America and horrified his family, who collapsed sobbing when they learnt of the video's existence

I really don't want to see the video. My thoughts are with his family.

At first, I was enraged, but now I'm just deeply saddened. I bet the poor bastard had no idea what was coming when he was sitting there.
