Thumbs up Delivery of my car. But wait!! She brought some friends, oh my!!

What a day, what a day, what a day!!
First, let me clarify that it was NOT Competition Transport. Frank’s truck had just left the east when I first called him. He had a contact that was back there and he got them to move my car. I somehow feel Frank Beck and his company would not have allowed this to happen.

As I mentioned before, a guy 3 blocks down the street was getting a Boxster delivered before mine was to be off loaded. He called me at 1pm and said the truck was almost at his house. I go over and the driver says he has to take off 2 cars to get the Boxster out. He opened the truck and the last car in was a 2001 Lamborghini Diablo. He took it off and parked it on the street. We go over to check it out and he says “Take it for a spin!” I didn’t think he was serious and we laughed. He said “No, really. It's fully insured. Take off.” I drove first and I was just cruising very slowly around the neighborhood. Then we switched, the other guy drove it back to the truck and he took his wife for a ride and was gone 15 minutes or so. My car was in the front and the other cars that had to come off….a 67 Sting Ray and ’51 Mercury Convertible. That Vette was concours nice. 427, 4 speed, convertible. I’d own one.

It took almost 4 hours to unload the cars, get mine out, and load them all back in.

My car is simply beautiful. By the time we had the other cars loaded and they were gone I was tired and just wanted to sit and relax. The neighbors stayed till late and we just sat in the garage eating pizza, drinking beer and watching me examine every inch of the Silver Steed. Have to come with a nickname. A lot of the good ones are taken, QuickSilver, the Bi*ch, Mistress, etc…

The batteries were weak and they are on a charger. First thing I did was yank out the engine sound pad. I washed it Sunday and just continued to go through it. The body and paint on the car is so nice, I can’t believe it. Just need TLC from sitting the last few years. This is going to be fun.

Wayne, the thing on the engine lid is an alarm activation point from way back. There’s a big siren in the engine compartment. I’m gonna put a Porsche badge or something in it’s place. I’ll be placing an order in the next 2 weeks or so for some misc stuff.

My car would not start when the shipper picked it up. That's why it went in the front. For future reference, every car I ship will NOT be running. I'll pay the extra $100 bucks gladly to keep those things from happening.

It WAS NOT Competition Transport. Mark Scott referred me to Competition and Frank Beck of Competition DID NOT transport my car. I would recommend using Frank Beck without question.

This was Prestige Transport.

Boy howdy.

First, consider that Jodie Foster has been a known victim of a stalker, and any famous people are subject to that kind of unwanted attention. Knowing the car somebody drives is a real advantage to that kind of sicko.

Second, there's the issue of driving someone else's car without their permission. I kinda doubt the truck driver was authorized to send perfect strangers out on joyrides in $200K+ cars.

I've done a lot of shipping of cars cross country over the past couple of years, and this is a real incentive to disable the ignition on the next one I ship.

This has to be a joke. Please tell me this Ferris Buehler parking attendant stuff doesn't happen in real life. Looks like I'll be taking the DME relay out when my 993 gets shipped to CA.

This story just blows me away. Playing devil's advocate, what if... you stuffed the Lambo into a ball at 120? Assuming, of course, you were not injured (first priority), wouldn't the transport company be on the hook for a mega-buck vehicle? Not to mention the negligence lawsuit which would be quickly behind? Unbelieveable. I think Mark McGuire's attourneys would have a field day. (by the way, I'm calling BS on the Mark McGuire, but it's of course possible). AND, if you were hurt, or killed, or lost a limb, etc., the transport company would most likely be on the hook for your injuries too, for letting you drive it. Wow.

That Lambo looks more like a Murcialago(sp?) than a Diablo. Honestly, that is an exotic auto owner's worst nightmare, a bunch of neighbors of some other shipping customer passing their car around like Martha Stewart in San Quentin. I cannot believe that the transport driver was willing to take that liability risk, I'm pretty sure that their insurance carrier would not pay for one of those $6-figure cars if you crashed it under those circumstances.

Can't say that I wouldn't love to drive them all, but if owned the Lambo or the 'vette, someone would be paying w/ blood or $$ when I found this thread. And stuff on the 'net travels fast and far.

Boy I sure hope Mr. McGwire does not get word of this. At the very least the shipping company will have hell to pay and a driver will likely lose his job.

I will never use this shipping company. They let strangers get in the car and drive? And YOU, the stranger who drives, actually take part in this illegal process over and over again and brag about it????? How would you feel if it was YOUR car and someone else drives it, and trashes it. Have you heard of respect for other people's property?

Oh yeah, the HD and the G35 were my neighbors'.

And I agree, that driver took a LOT of risk. Scary stuff.

BTW, How many of you would have honestly said "No, thanks. I'm good"

All afternoon I was saying "I'm just glad mine wouldn't start on pick up."

Denis, it said Diablo on the interior.

When I shipped my '88 from Houston recently, they documented the odometer reading to the 100th. It arrived the same.
I wonder how they will explain the extra 5-50 miles put on this (these) car(s)?
I would have raised holy He11 over this issue!

This story horrifies me. Worst nightmare for an owner who is expecting safe passage for his vehicle. So many things could have gone wrong.

The driver should never have let you drive it. Now (with that in mind), if the stupid driver said I could drive it - I would have too (I don't blame you!).

Ok, that's it. I'm calling BS on the whole story.

In re-reading your post, I tally you driving the car three times and your neighbor driving it seven times. No way.

You said you put $20 of gas in the car. Who puts $20 of gas in a car that they're just taking for a quick spin? I'm no cheapskate, but I doubt I would have put more than a 5 spot in it.

I've seen transporters unloaded at dealerships a million times. Four hours to unload four cars?

I dunno. Please don't take this post wrong, but I think we're getting hosed.

true or not, i would have declined the offer
unique chance or not, it's also a unique chance to get in trouble big time

let's say something stupid happens, a flat tire, or an oil slick where you didn't expect it.. or another idiot hitting the car while you drive it and making a run for it...

who do you think would have some explaining to do?
sure , the driver of the truck, but so would you
and all in all, you drove it, you're the one responsible since after all you accepted the offer , nothing in writing... no waiver, no nothing

one big mess...

doesn't sound like a good idea to me...
on top of that, it's not respectfull to the owner of these cars
you wouldn't like it if they would have taken a joy ride with your car on a previous stop either, so why do you do it to them?

Denis, That's a Diablo 6.0 the last Diablo before the Murcielago came out. I am jealous and horrified at the same time. (note to self...NEVER ship a car)

I may accept to sit in the car and look around. But, I would decline to drive it.

I would have look at it and maybe sat in it, but would never had taken it for a spin. Too many people running stop sign that you can't control.

I'm already nervous driving either one of my Lotuses or Porsche around with full coverage insurance on myself, let alone to drive someone else exotic car with no insurance.
