Home Automation - Anyone in the business?

Just wondering if anyone here on the BBS is doing Home Automation and Intergration or has been involved with it in the past. What manaufactures do you use and how much of a project are you responsable for? What is your main line of business or is Intergration your main focus? Are you in the sales end or the tech side or maybe both? What is the largest project (without giving names of owners or clients) that you have been involved with? What makes a smooth, problem free (I know there will always be problems) and profitable project for you?
Lastly, anyone attending CEDIA?

Thinking about a possible change in jobs and all opinions and information is welcome.

Hey Dan -

Check out some of the Home Automation sites and digests. I get a daily feed from JDSUSERS since I own a yet-to-be-installed Stargate system. You should be able to get quite a bit of feedback from them - there are a lot of independents on just that one list.

Home automation is still pretty high-end, but I'm still surprised it isn't more popular. I guess the thought is still a bit scary to some folk.

I knew a guy who was in the business. However, he was busy because of the home theater popularity. Seems the home automation business was much less in demand and only in new builds. I believe he is now out of business.

Hey Kevin, good to see your still around. I am pretty up to date with periodicals but I will check out that site. Looking for some real world feed back. I am working on a Home Theatre right now that just is insane. I have been getting dragged into more of these projects as it seems local designers and architects have heard my name mentioned in good context. I may try to add it to my current business.
We need to get together soon by the way.

Rick, That is my fear. It seems as though once again its not what but who you know. Was he in your area of the country?
