ah . .yeeeah. . .I think that I already did that.

Now you want to constrain the arguement to who partook in free-fire zones, indiscriminate burning of villages . ..

yeah, you got me there. . .Kerry seems to get credit for that (thou' I think he was lying)

Wow, its amazing what secrets one can learn about the vietnam war by bull****ting with some guy in a marina in the 80's.

Speeder, does it not seem strange that Kerry was turned down for his first PH. . .he then re-applied (contested, challenged, protested, whined-for. . .whatever the technical term was) for the PH medal ?

BillyIdaho 08-22-2004 11:28 AM

Sorry Island, You have shown nothing but a propensity for dodging the question.

Kerry has been on the two way range...Bush has not.
You said he (Bush) had experience under fire, like Kerry.
Still waiting for you to offer up this experience...Please answer the question. Thanks! Show me where I am wrong!

Yes, he (Bush) was in charge, and subsequent to, 9/11.

What a resume!

Goodness, someone's sure getting hysterical.

First, it's not clear that anyone ever was 'spat on' coming home from Vietnam. It's an urban legend.

Lets make it clear. Folks in uniform get spit on all the time. I served at the end of the Vietnam era and have been spit on or had things thrown at me to ruin my uniform several times. I was once physically attacked on a campus. I made the punk wish he had never been born. My daughter (AF Reserve and ROTC student) was spit on recently on campus. Anyone wearing a uniform on a liberal college campus last year was a target. Chicken***** liberal punks know that military members are not allowed to fight back in a uniform unless you are in danger of physical harm.

That is okay. Now that I am retired, the next time someone spits upon me or a family member of mine, I will track them down and surgically remove their spitting apparatus.

Not calling you a liar, Ron, I'm just really surprised that I haven't seen this story on the campaign trail yet. The $$ is just waiting for you on this one.

Maybe you could get producer+ on camera credit for the comercial: "Boat-owning lawyers for truth"..... :D

Kerry fought in Viet Nam, Bush used connections to avoid going. End of strory. I am really enjoying this campaign season, we've got a sissy-hawk administration that came into power through the frikkin' side door, has done more damage than anyone thought possible in 3 years, (like a really bad Kurt Vonnegut novel), and is now trying to win re-election by impugning the military record from 35 years ago of their oponent. With help from the brain trust shown here. Hilarious if it wasn't true. :(

BillyIdaho 08-22-2004 11:57 AM

Never had anyone spit on me...only come up and say "Thank you"
That has happened several times.
Specifically, one instance of this happening was in Olympia WA, last summer - VERY liberal city.
A buddy and I were at a festival along the waterfront there in between shifts. We rode our motorcycles down there, in uniform, just killing time until we had to go back on duty at Ft Lewis.

I do remember a "granola" looking female walking up to us and saying "Isn't your booth over there (pointing to a recruiting booth)." She had a little tone, indicating she didn't like seeing us there, but that was it.
She was outnumbered by people shaking our hands and taking pictures with us.

Not saying it (spitting) didn't, doesn't happen - just never to me, or anyone else I know. Vietnam Vets included - served with a bunch of those.

techweenie 08-22-2004 12:05 PM

I spent a lot of time in uniform on a liberal campus during Vietnam. Neither I nor any of my acquaintances were ever spat on.

But then again, I don't have fintstone's winning personality.

speeder 08-22-2004 12:08 PM

I've said it before here: anyone who spits on a military member, (or anyone else for that matter), deserves a severe ass-kicking. That said, it seems that the story of Viet vets being spit on in airports has attained the status of urban legend, of course it probably happened somewhere but was not at all a common occurance.

Maybe it happened once, who knows, maybe a young Karl Rove or Roger Ailes even staged it knowing what lasting currency it would have in the right-wing AM radio moron world.

I have been a 54B for 10 years.

Unfortunatley, the Chemical Recon unit (704th, Arden Hills Mn) I was assigned to was NEVER EVEN SENT OVERSEAS TO LOOK FOR WMD's. Hmmmm...no wonder nothing has been found.

I served 6 mos stateside last spring/summer, though.
My brother was activated as well. Actually, he has been (involuntarilly) activated TWICE for this fiasco since Jan 2003.
His family is now broken up as a result.

I took a significant pay cut to come out of the IRR to serve an active duty tour, against my wifes and families wishes.

Any of you Bush fans do anything similar?

I am NOT talking about anyone ALREADY serving on active duty (done that too)...anyone else drop what they were doing (911 restoration was one of the things I "dropped"), take a pay cut, and pick up a rifle?

I'll even open it up a bit...any of you sign one of your kids up for the service since Iraq went hot? (I don't have a kid old enough, so no, I did not do this.)

Please hurry and reply, because I am holding my breath...

You can stop holding your breath now. My daughter signed up for the AF reserve last year. I volunteered for Iraq myself. Lots of folks that post here have served...some like Smitty are still in Iraq and post here. Military service does not make their opinions any more relevant than any other voter's opinions. Nor does it make them any more able to determine is Kerry is truthful since he has been proven to lie on almost any topic.

As far as Kerry's medals....A lot of folks would have a lot more of them if they were able to write up the after action reports as Kerry did. Seems he was always the leading character...and they were always under intense fire....regardless of what anyone else says.
I have worked with several well-connected, glory-seeking young officers like Kerry. They show up, contribute little, get a couple of politically motivated awards (usually taking credit for the work of others or exaggerating their own efforts), and are on to the next job. Everyone else keeps on doing the work and taking the risks and receive little recognition. Most never even know about the awards since they usually come after the person as left and are presented at the new unit. It is like sticking your had in a bucket of water. Pull it out, and it is like it was never there. Thaty was Kerry until he chose to try to use his service to innoculate himself against his anti-defense voting record. Guess it worked in '71 and he assumed it would again. He did not realize that in '71, most of the witnesses were still in Vietnam and could not speak out. Now they can set the story straight.

When a stranger spits on you as you walk by..I cannot imagine the osmosis used to determine your personality.

An airport was a likely place to be spit on since we were required to travel in uniform. Most folks rarely wore one off base otherwise.

Fintstone:
Thank you for letting me breath!

You are right - military service does not necessarilly make your input on this forum more valuable, UNLESS you are simply refuting that ALL liberals are un-patriotic, military hating members of society.

I am liberal, I am patriotic, I love the military. I volunteered to do arguably the nastiest job in the current war (If WMD's had indeed been used I would have been doing Chemical surveys in contaminated areas).

Just wanted to go on record as demonstrating that the whole liberal military hater thing was a lie.

Also, just wanted to ask those who are spewing that filth if they answered the call, especially in regards to the current conflict they so vocally support. Afterall, since I am liberal and unpatriotic, CERTAINLY one of the patriotic "righties" could certainly top my measley contribution.

Aside from you (thank you for you and your daughters service!),
there has been silence from the peanut gallery.

BTW, what is your MOS, and what did you volunteer to do?

Who here doubts the validity of RoninLB's experience, as he tells it? . . . or doubts that there were a whole lot of guys serving in Vietnam who deserved those medals 10x more that John my-dreamy-after-action-reports Kerry ?
