I may have missed that tidbit, tabby. I used to shoot 45-70GVT quite a bit in Ruger No 1 and Mauser conversions. You can get the 400gr soft point up to about 2200fps in a modern rifle, but the recoil starts to get brutal and depending on throat and chamber design, you could be flirting with excessive pressures. Needles to say, the same loads in a Trapdoor, and you'll get a sinus scraping with the bolt as it enters the cranium.
