i use profanity.
ok, i have been know to drop the "F" bomb on occasion. never in hate, just to add some flavor, emphasise. you know. the S-word is even more tame.
the bbs has some very conservative folks on board. i gotta hear some opinions. based on the NASCAR decision to dink earnhart for saying fecal matter in an easier way, bono saying the f-word, janet flashing a boob. WTF? in my opinion, no big deal. i bet nascar fans cuss alot. who is offended? what law has been broken? it just pisses me off. i think everyone is just gunshy now that mike powell is heading the FCC. sorry for the rant......

When it happened, the announcer said " That ought to be good for a point" but 25pts???? It wasn't even out of bad sportsmanship. He was celebrating a victory! Totaly out of hand.

Rediculous, no doubt. I wonder what's going to become of all this? In car cameras- gone, to many drivers shooting the bird at other drivers and getting caught on live tv. The same can be said after a wreck when a driver shoots the bird, and chunks his helmet (while still on the track) towards the at fault driver when he passes by under caution, non the less, in front of all the fans! Looks like it's time to make some rule changes or say good bye to TV, and spectators in the grandstands. My eyes, my ears, they burn!

I think the best qoute that he made later was something to the effect that if you were offended by that word I doubt you would even be watching a Nascar broadcast. True enough. Bottom line, who really gives a $hit about such language being used in the context it was used. It slipped, he apologized for the"offensive" remark and that should have been it. Is there anyone who hasn't done something similar. For god's sake I have cursed in Church by accident. !#$% happens.

I curse on a regular basis but I see the reasoning for strict rules and penalties. If FCC lets the F-bomb slide one time every other person that uses it will refer to the first time. After a while it will become regularly used and detrimental to society. They are just trying to nip it in the bud before it gets started. We have to have some rules to have a civilization.

you know the FCC has gone a little too far when PBS has to bleep its content for fear of getting sued.

My two boys are now 14 and 16. When they were very young, I searched high and low for sports I could watch with them. The very last NBA game I have ever watched featured Charles Barkley hollering "f*ck you" at a fan, with his face taking up my whole TV screen. I think my boys were about four and six at the time. Now don't get me wrong, I can appreciate a well-rendered "f*ck you" as well as the next guy, when circumstances dictate. Just not in front of the young kids. In the end, I wound up watching Winston Cup. I really hate when people use the tired old "it's for the children", but I think in this case it is. Families need things they can watch together with NO chance for this. Not even the Superbowl fills that niche anymore. I applaud NASCAR.

I think NASCAR has put themselves in a tough spot. They need to follow the precedent they set earlier in the season, but all hell's going to break loose when Jefff Gordon wins the championship by 24 points at the end of the season. I can't wait. Go Speed Racer, Go!!!

From what I understand, they HAD to levy that fine as they have had to do the same to others prior to this incedent. Too bad Jr! I can see the money fine, but the 25 points is harsh this time of the season and what the hell does cussing have to do with f***in' racing? He earned the points by racing (so to speak). So does anybody get bonus points for good sportsmanship and clean language? I don't agree with the points fine.
In the end I have to say that I think NASCAR did the right thing with the dollar fine. They bill themselves as something the whole family can enjoy on a Sunday. I can't fault them for trying to keep it wholesome. I think their slogan is "Where America meets on Sunday" kinda like high speed church.

I think it's great that NASCAR over reacted. Maybe more people will see how overblown all this FCC crap is.

Fines just don't mean anything in pro sports anymore. Fining a NASCAR driver ten grand would be like fining me a buck. Not much of a deterent to bad behaviour. I say fine 'em in a way that hurts. Take points away. Make 'em sit out the next race. Either that, or let 'em cuss away. That would put NASCAR on late night TV and take away their audience base - families. I'm no puritan by any means, but I don't like to be surprised by this kind of stuff in venues where I should be able to reasonably expect to bring my family. I would rather have to go bit out of my way to find it. It's more fun that way anyway.

While i don't have a problem with the FCC regulating profanity, I noticed today that Howard Stern says when his contract is up, he's going to satellite radio which the FCC can't regulate. The airwave broadcasters have a real disadvantage, they can't broadcast boobs or profanity on the air, but cable can. So for people like me who get their TV via' cable, one channel can, and another can't without getting fined. What's the fairness in that?
