This thread is ridiculous but I will chime in none the less. 1992 e36 325i
manual trans. purchased for $5000.00 four years ago w/ 150,000 miles.

Repairs: heater core, AC expansion valve, (2) ball joints, voltage regulator, couple of light bulbs. (roughly $500 DIY)

Car now has 240,000 miles and runs and looks excellant. I think this has been a great purchase and I would not hesitate to buy another newer one when this gets passed down to the daughter or scrapped.

My 911 will definately not be worth what I end up putting into it when I am finished sorting it out. (I am OK with this) So what is the point to all this bickering? I say to each his own.

I'll bet if I was so inclined I could post those 3 pix over on Bimmerforums with a price tag of $14k and get solid bites.

$350 really I dont think so.

I donot have a photo of the 73 Csl I had but here is one in white mine was Silver with out the wing.
It would run like a Bat out of Heil.
I think they are the best looking production car ever built.
I paid $9500 for it in 1985 from a doctor here in Newport( he also had a M1) and sold it in 1989 for $22.5k
This what I am talking about resale value.

Jason Bill wanted to sell me the bug you are now driving for $20 . Yes $20 But I spent the afternoon putting some Boards on his deck instead.
Then I swapped it to you for the 914 that you had and sold $3k worth of parts off the 914.
This is resale value. I never lose money on a car. You just have to buy at the right price.

I think it's sad that your primary motivator in buying a car is what it'll be worth when you sell it. I buy mine to drive and enjoy. And HOT DAMN I enjoy driving my M3!!!

Since then, I've dumped over $6,000.00 into the bug, and it's not even painted or interiored (word?), just engine, trans, axles, 4-wheel disc conversion. 2.0 Fuchs, MOMO steering wheel...the works...

It's for sale right now for $4,000.00, and I could care less if I lose money on it. I had a tremendous amount of fun in it this past year, and it's so much better of a car now than it was, I feel a sense of pride in building such a beastly little sleeper. BTW - I'll run anything in your driveway, anywhere in my bug...and win convincingly...

Your CSL didn't appreciate that much, you just got it for a steal. I do think they have appreciated some as they are a very rare and desirable car. Probably still mid 20's car. Maybe even higher for excellent examples.

Thats good I am glad that you enjoy driving it for you that is important. I like to drive my cars also.
It just when I go to sell them I get to have driven it and made money on it.
I guess I got it from my dad who wheeled and dealed his way from being on a ranch up in Montana dirt poor to owning 3 Jaguar dealerships.
then retiring at 39.

So what you're saying is that a guy who owns a $10K SC, and has an engine failure shouldn't rebuild his engine, because it's worth as much as his car if done very well???

He should just throw his Porsche away??? Or not even buy it??? Alrighty then...........

Talk about a car which loves to have work done on it. The 560 maintenance costs far exceed the M3, or a 7 series for that matter.

What I am saying is that BMW's do not have resale value due to the cost of repair. You see them by the dozens out at pick a part along with most other brands. Any 911 will hold its value even with a blown engine.
BMW's are not a coveted car unlees its a 70's Cs like a 911. Even 912 are giong up in price. It supply and deman the made far to many BMW.'s of all models for them to hold there resale value.

Actually the 560 Sl is one of the most depenable cars on the road. It never breaks. I replace the chain rail and Cam oil squiter every 50K miles and change the fulids that it.
I do go thru pbrake pads though as it is a heavy car and go fast.

Do you really think that tank can take me off the line? You want to try and get around my suspension set-up? BTW - It's not stock gearing, but you should keep making assupmtions...

I've had the needle buried on the bug speedo, and accelerated well past that. It's definitely been up to around 130, and that fat pig 560 ain't agile enough, unless you put it on a diet...
