I generally stay out of these things, but my $0.02:

It's a war, people! Enemies get killed on both sides in a war!!

If there is something wrong, it is having these "embedded" reporters around. Invariably, the video clips shown cannot provide the entire context of what is really happening, hence will always be pulled into whatever direction the media owners will want it to go...

What do you liberals want, an investigation for every dead Iraqi or American soldier? How about an investigation into the almost daily murder/rape in ...... (insert your central African country of choice here) that goes mostly unreported?

Surely military counsels will have a lengthy circle jerk over this within the safe confines of their offices...rules of engagement...drawn by staff to cover their arses, thus protecting their careers...

Pardon me for not expressing glib, insincere concern over the treatment of enemy combatants...a bullet to the head of this POS was too kind.

I knew some defeatist type (based on past writing) would post about this for the other anarchist/defeatist/apologist/do-nothing-since-it's-easier-to-defend types.

The mental masturbating left will have a field day with this story. The perfect pretext for their politics of inaction. Regarding this and Abu Graib...I only regret that a camera caught the action.

I would have do the same thing.

The marine Could not take a chance and acted to protect his fellow marines.

Who was to know if the Isalmofastist didnt have a bomb ready to take as many marines out as he could.

In Short That Marine did the right thing.

I am officially done with this board - so long folk - been good to know ya. Life is too short for the negative energy seething around here.
well, sorry to let you down, but in this case I'm tending a little towards the "walk a mile in his boots" side of things. I have never been to war. My dad has. He won't talk about it. I know that our soldiers are not perfect. I know that there are some bad apples who committ atrocities. But I'm not going to jump to a conclusion and condemn a person without considering the circumstances. We are in a lose-lose situation in Iraq. This is a horrible example of what war does to people. There are lots of "wrong place, wrong time" examples. But they happen here at home too.

If the soldier is tried and found guilty of a crime then he should be punished. After all, the family of the Iraqi is suffering. But so are the parents of the soliders that have been killed or maimed by insurgent activities.

Sorry...I just don't see this as a black and white issue. War is hell. Its just these days we have pervasive media to bring home *some* sides of the story.

It's obvious Purry was looking for a reaction from the board by his Subject line/title.

It's funny, I saw the video, and my immediate reaction was: "Oh, well. That's war for you."

Yes, it was brutal. But you know, the same news report I saw talked of insurgents hiding in camouflaged bunkers from which, after U.S. soldiers pass, the insurgents come out and shoot the U.S. soldiers in the back. This is in addition to booby-trapping buildings, bodies, cars, etc.

I highly support our troops in Fallujah. I don't think anyone on this board is qualified to imagine the sort of scary hell that place is, or truly knows how it can debilitate one's reasoning power. The two posters who believe this is murder in the 1st or what-have-you, obviously have not entertained the troops' side of the story.

Well Duck, I believe that was the reaction of anyone without some serious anti_American bent. These people are intent on practicing war with no rules. We need to show them what the result of that is at thier expense, not ours!

I am totally opposed to Bush's going into Iraq, but war is hell and ***** is going to happen sometimes. If US soldiers were doing this on a regular basis, then we should start getting concerned, but isolated cases fall into the "War is hell" department.

You're done. Good. Because until you've been there, friend, you have no idea what the soldiers are up against. Hopefully none of them are reading this thread.

In all likelihood the fish was not previously shooting at or generally trying to kill the boys before they we're yanked from the tank and killed.

What a f**king lame example.

Purry, maybe you could have the good fortune to have a loved one blown up by a sucessful homicide bomber, that way at least the univers would be in balance, & you might pull your head out of it's current dark confines.
