Hell, if I subscribed to Lynn's method of doing business, I'd have to boycott nearly every recording artist in the world and I wouldn't have any music to listen to - they're all liberals!!! :D
|
Curt,
Agreed and I would have to stop watching all the movies as they are full of the Hollywood liberals. History Channel ratings would go through the roof! Lynn, Nice hats! If I buy one or two will you buy the frigging starter from Pelican and close this thread??!! How about a Bugeye Sprite hat? Joe |

Remember this: You are the orginal author of this thread. From where I sit you knew exactly what you are starting up here. As in the past you have broken known forum rules in attempts push your agenda as you are doing now. You're really taking this too far, and on 2nd thought I'm not much better for being baited by you. It's not like you're giving an innocent answer to someone elses question here. This whole thread is just another attempt to start an argument that you can "win" by putting Pelican in as a casualty for your loss. I feel stupid having to explain this over and over. Let's give it a rest. rjp |

You'd ban anyone who even KNEW a Liberal ;) |
I'm a "liberal", and I think this thread is a pretty pathetic attempt to bait the majority and provide an opportunity to say "mommy, he hit me!"
Come on Lynn and Joe. You're in the minority on this board (as am I). Deal with it. If you don't like being in the smaller camp, then go elsewhere. If you feel compelled to let the electronic words of others influence your purchasing decisions, then party on, Francis. Why in the world would you try to blackmail the owner of the company to force him to change the way the wind is blowing on an OT BBS. Instead what you'll do is just shut the place down. Well, I guess you'll have the last laugh then. As for the question at hand, you can never please every customer. Some customers are nuts, and will NEVER be happy. You have to let those go buy somewhere else. Period. They are not worth the electrons... |

You've never given us any reason to think such terrible things. Lies! . . LIES! I tell you. |
BTW, Lynn, do you have a licensing agreement with Porsche to sell your hats? You know 911 logo and all.
Just a (learned) thought... |
This about the dumbest thing I think I have read in here. Telling Wayne that you're not going to shop in his virtual store because you don't like what people are saying in OT is like saying you won't shop at Burger King because the Chevy guys have a gathering there every week and you drive a Ford.
Actually, it's even stupider than that because when you shop here at Pelican - nobody knows who the hell you are or what you stand for. You don't have to park your Ford in the lot and walk past the Chevy guys. You just login to the virtual the counter and pay. This is a parts store. If you don't like prices, go elsewhere. It's not a bar where the only thing the have to sell is a good atmoshere or the likelyhood you'll take a "piece" home. ;) I'm a relative dumb ass on the automotive side (but am learning). I post stuff in the Tech section and get answers. Sometimes, I get answers from people who's opinion (here) I know differ from mine. But unless they're telling me to pour antifreeze in my oil tank (which I *know* is wrong) I assume they're giving me legit advice. ;) I don't jump into the real fray here very often, but do love reading the real piss and vinegar posts. It's fun. It's like Jerry Springer, only people can speak proper English (mostly). But, in this case I thought I'd throw in my opinion. Wayne's got a good thing going, but asking him to babysit us because we can't get along is rediculous. It sure would be interesting for Wayne to tell us what portion of customers spend all day jacking around in here spend money at PP vs. how many people buy and have 0 posts in any forum. (As I business person I know it ain'tgonnahappen.) PP has not political agenda. Businesses that have political agendas have the "fish" in there logo, or list in the gay or African American phone books. I don't see any of that here. Though I don't know *what* the Pelican reprsents from the location on the East Coast. :) If Wayne is sending 10% of the profits to save wildlife, and I'm not down with that, then I'll move on. I never saw anywhere on here where donations went to either party. Frankly, I'm surprised how wide the political gamut runs here. Growing up with not enough $ to own a Porsche, I wanted one because it said "Wow I can afford this expensive toy." Now that I own one, I appreciate it for so much more. I assummed though that there were a lot of people that have a lot of money and had these expensive toys and thus the group would tend to lean more conservative. I have been surprised at how many differences there really are here. This is a cool place to hang out. If you can hang here great. If you get pissy and leave, don't leave the whole board (eg Tech Forums) just for what goes on in OT. That is the greater loss... |
Sorry Lynn, I gotta disagree as well.
As much as I respect the few "liberal" types who stuck it out and (most)often provided the only far-sighted and balanced elements of a post, it's not the job of Wayne or his minons to manage childish behaviorial anticts, drowning-out tactics, or flat out insensitivity. The law is against porn, curse words, death threats, internet viruses etc... that PP could directly be held accountable for and hurt the company as a whole. Unfortunately this is the sandbox of OT, where poo is thrown more than sand unfortunately, but it should be mentally seperated from the user-supported tech forum community and PP sales. This is a small and often crowded room and farts carry far. You can boil down the tactics of the Bushies to: #1 repeated personal jabs and quips, or #2 post half of the Fox news website. I've lost my temper(pehaps unfairly?) at people who show up out of the blue, never having posted on the tech side, and start repeatedly posting multiple pages of highly political essays. Red or Blue, I personally don't think the professional think-tanks for the parties should bully at the DIY level crowd. If it's intelligent, logical, and relevent, I think it's still worth a glance. If not, it's a plus for ones own reason and ignore or challenge. Anyways, thanks for caring if that means anything. |

Your ficticious letter is an example of a pathetic "customer" who's ego is so fragile it is devastated by electronic discussion. Do you really have that much of yourself wrapped up in this place? That is pretty sad... Sorry to call a spade a spade, but that's the way this liberal see's it. If you want to base your purchase decisions on whether or not you get slammed in an OFF-TOPIC bbs (as opposed to the "real" tech board, which is linked from the main commerce pages), knock yourself out. But what kind of response did you expect from this ploy? You got your expected derision from the right, but maybe a poke from the left is a bit too stinging? My advice would be to go for a drive. That's what I'm going to do tonight...a nice long one (gotta let the Techron do its work before tomorrow's oil change using a filter purchased from our host). |
And as true to form, this latest tyrade isn't really "you" per se. it's a "fictiious" example set to some obsucre Kung-Fu 'esque attempt to expose the real threat to humanity and progress
REPUBLICANS!! That is exactly (almost verbatim) the same cop out excuse when you f@#ked up and got caught with your ailias! This has to be a joke right? This time you've painted yourself in a corner, now please keep your word and go... rjp |
you know what i do.........I DON'T GET INVOLVED IN THE POLITICAL THREADS.....PERIOD.
opinions are like *******s, everyone has one.......and politics is politics is politics. the only person i have to prove anything to is myself, my vote takes care of the political view. and you can usually learn more by just observing........ there should be a separate political forum.....enter at own risk......if you can't take the heat....... that is all |
Lynn works for a Porche dealership, and has her own political views(?). How terrible!
Ease up a little, 'gents, if that is true. Unless one is listening to Ozzy/Slayer and doing 1/8 mile long burnouts in the 350 78 Camero through the 3pm schoolzone with your head stuck in the ashtray, that "f*k everything and everyone else" attitude doesn't fit every situation. Group-think is jumping on the bandwagon instead of listening to individual reason and disagreeing. This forum has become way too polarized and mabye her post is representational of such. I 'll admit I haven't read most of this thread, but it's nice to have a real woman contribute to the board and discussions, thats's all. No untrue argument will hold up against adversity. It's not(!) her, or him, or them. It's you. |
I've learned many times over the customer is ALWAYS right.....mmmmm.....no he's not! The customer will manipulate any situation they see fit to get their way with whatever they want. They will lie, cheat, steal and whatever else they think they can get away with. Like you've already read and know....this is a forum where people are offered the opportunity to express their views. I was almost ready to quit coming to this OT section due to the attitude of one member, but now he's gone! Thanks again! But this does NOT mean I would not continue to go to the other areas of this website.
Also, I've found there are many people who will buy whatever costs less no matter what. People appreciate some things....some things they don't. I personally wouldn't worry about this ONE guy or the other guy who says he quit coming because his feelings were hurt. Enough said....this IS the best site available for information and parts! |
Lynn,
You will be hard pressed to find a more conservative SOB than me and I have had my share of slaps on this site - BUT BELIEVE IT OR NOT, I have actually made buds with a few hard core BHL's from dialogue, smart dialogue. Some times - smart dialogue is tough to find (on either end). No one says you have to agree or even stay tuned. The bucks are found on the tech site and engine rebuild board. Your customers that pay large, I would guess, tangle issues in the techno/rebuild site - can't say I see the same suspects in OT. Your the marketeer, run the numbers. If you see that the ones gettin slamed in OT are also the ones talking major rebuilds in the techno site - take action cuz it is hurting your margins. The time you are talking to read these responses is time that could be spent on other fruitful endevors such as running a sort and finding a trend. I don't know your pedegree (sp), do you work for PP? |
Dave,
It all depends on the person. Some will go 10 miles to save an extra buck but I will drive 100 miles to buy something of quality. Have found out years ago that its worth it in the end but then thats me. Lynn, No need to lurk but realize that the OT forum is somewhat of a free for all area. I did not venture in here for a long time and then only when prompted. My visits to Pelican are to gain knowledge about the cars and to help if at all possible. Political views I could give a hoot about in the general area, I try to help or ask for help and could care less who it comes from or their leanings. When someone comes and says "the OT forum is too liberal so I am leaving" then its easy to say goodby to them. This is not to say that we feel the same way about the whole forum as everyone benefits from the general section. Find your parts at the place who gives you the best service, and factor in the price as well. Money is not everything and when a company gives you good support, its worth supporting them. Keep poking around the general 911 board as there is not a better spot in the world for help. One last comment... your next post is number 1000. Please make it a good one and I hope its on the main page helping someone. Remember it for doing some good and not for arguing with someone! Joe A |

Lynn, the problem with your letter is really quite simple. If, as a business owner, I took action to stop the "dem-bashing", or whater you would have me do, then I would be setting an example I don't think I would want to have to follow.
See the "edited" version of your letter below, and then substitute my editing with any of probably hundreds of variations and you will see my point. If you, as a customer, are so offended by the postings of individuals here, then honestly, I would ask that you either accept it or to please take your business elsewhere. There are too many other customers that require my attention in much more pressing matters than for me to be concerned with your non-issue. Dear Pelican Parts.com: I am a frequent user of your site. I’ve ordered parts in the past, own both of the books and like most everything about Pelican. I represent the perfect demographic for your company--am in my mid-50’s, college educated, HH income of $100+, own a home with a garage, am a DIY guy and own an early 911 Porsche that seems to always need new parts. I have a starter sitting in the floor of my garage needing replacement. There is only one problem. There is only one problem. People buy where they feel they are welcome. Several months ago, I “discovered” the Off Topic part of your site and began posting my opinions. I quickly discovered that, according to most of that group, I am a cry-baby, whinning, MS Windows User. Rather than quietly “voting” with my pocket book and calling Zim’s, Performance Products or one of any number other Porsche parts suppliers, I am giving you the opportunity to discuss with me why your company allows this situation to exist on your website. I look forward to your comments, Sincerely, Windows-Porsche Owner You can start with the following for your substitutions: 1.) B-Gruppe Member 2.) Targa Owner 3.) Cab Owner 4.) SCWDP Member 5.) Owner of a p-car with a water-cooled engine (Maybe even a V-8! 6.) I have a cupholder in my 911... The list can go on and on.... Anyone else care to add to this list? Randy |
Excellent point Randy.
. . .which is amazing, coming from one of you damn Windoz users. Quote:
I never made "that same threat" .. . thing is; You, at that time, had been yammer'n-on about some 'unconscionable actions of someone who dared to encroach on anothers tradmark or image.' W/ my knowing what you do, the hypocrisy of your yammer was too damn thick for me not to post something. YOU took it as a threat (too close too.. .) I was nice enough to delete that post, for YOU and YOUR percieved threat. . . and now here you are again. . . stir'n shtuff up, again . . . what a spaz. The way you approach problems here is disgusting. Your "Yankee911 troll", your 'playing the victim roll', and now this "control them consevatives" -- blackmail attempt . . .. Absolutly disgusting! |

Fine ... But as of for the rest of your hypothetical example, gimme a break. It has validity, assuming that YOU'RE NOT IN A BIASED ENVIRONMENT. You took a page out of 952's book with your latest stunt. It was a loaded question. Thanks. I just got up and now I've got a headache  |
Gracious - this thread is such a waste of time. People do vote with their pocketbooks, and shop accordingly for the best price. Provided how expensive Porsches and their parts can be, I expect Wayne and Pelican Parts to be the leader it is in the Porsche aftermarket business, despite political leanings.
As for licensing agreements, Lynn, again - no threat here (nor from Island, it seems). I perceive a difference between your product and Island's as Island doesn't have "Porsche" written on his or "911," though again, I've never seen his product. Regardless, I will not rule out Porsche AG having some pale, bifocal-wearing internet lawyer surfing around on Google with a "Porsche" search, and invariably latching onto this website and this thread. Or, if someone doesn't particularly like your bantering, they could also forward your hats website straight to Porsche Licensing. Believe me, I've seen the spite of people in manufacturing. This thread can't possibly be helping your situation. |
I like you guys.. you make me laugh!
But seriously... as a card carrying democrat, liberal, tree hugging, native Californian and a self admitted Jesus freak (democrat Jesus freak? boy am I messed up!) I don't really care much for the political threads so I usually just stay away from them, however when you drag PP into the mud pit. I admit I am a little bummed about the direction OT has taken recently however there are still fun threads around that make it worth while dropping by here once in a while. The dog picture thread and the fold you shirt tread come to mind, the titty/booty threads are mildly offending but again if that is not your thing then just don't go there (I DO like titty/booty but I'm more of a hands on kind of guy in that area). Okay so much for common sense, my point being not buying from PP just because you feel you have been beat up by some conservative bullies after entering an open form that you know has a predominate political bent is just silly IMHO. How do you know that the guy who owns your local auto zone isn't a nazi? Although I suppose if your a nazi that isn't necessarily a bad thing. See, I'm not any good at this politacal stuff... I'm going back to looking at pictures of puppies... you can all go straight to... uh... Pelican parts and buy some stuff! |
my 2 cents :
using the boards is NOT a pre-requisite to buying from Pelican Parts Buying from Pelican Parts is NOT a pre-requisite to using the boards I view them as totally different. I have even seen posts were someone asks where to find a part.. as they have forgotten that this BBS is sponsored by a parts company.. If there were 2 people outside the shop in the parking lot by thier cars talking politics, would you feel responsible for the content of the conversation to a customer driving up ??? Don |
bye...

Bizarre
|
The only thing that keeps me away from the OT is when I am busy or the chorus of idiocy reaches such a critical mass that I prefer to wait for the cabal of right wingers to simmer down.
To anyone who decides to stay away for good or lashes out at pelican for allowing us to express ourselves in the forums, I say you need to learn how to play well with others cause real life is not much different than what bubbles to the surface here. The only recommendation I would make to keep some of the more senseless threads in check is a time limit to how often a person can post in one thread. Some of the childish name calling and banter I have seen in some recent threads has been more offensive than any political discussion I have ever read. |
A few years ago, we had a major problem in our church and when the issue came to a decision point, a bunch of people threatened to leave and "take their money with them". Well, when all was said and done, we lost several dozen families, but the weekly giving did not go down at all!
I really doubt that any serious "Porsche person" would let something as trivial as the "off topic forum" convince them to leave Pelican Parts. If they do leave, they were just looking for an excuse. |
Man isn't this still America?? Last time I checked it was. If someone, somewhere didn't get pissed off about something like when the sun came up, we'd all be be living in Happyland. What ever his/her problem is with this forum/website; at least we all know that they have a pulse and can fog a mirror. That's about it though.
Some people aren't happy period. And they look for a target to unload some of that wonderfulness on. LynnsABCs you just were on the receiving end that day, that situation. Don't lose any sleep because most of the rest of the population is normal. |
Man - I must be gettin old or maybe my stupidity is catching up with me but by the tone for his/her posts I had the impression that LynnABC worked for or was a vendor for PP. Turns out not the case? I guess I should cancel that check for that male enhancer...
