difference is local, in socal you are in the left lane trying to go as fast as you can (usually under/at the limit) or you are behind someone. I stay in the left lane, and move over on the rare occation that someone comes up behind me andthere is no one in front of me.

Guys, it's not hard to fix this problem. Just drive one of these...
![]() I bought it 2 1/2 years ago because I wanted a good city-beater, and it amused me. I've usually have people get out of my way very, very quickly. It may not handle like a Porsche, but it goes like stink, and can handle any pothole, or railroad crossing at crazy-eddie speeds. I do not have any flashing lights, etc that would make me look like an emergency vehicle. Just a white crown vic that still has the spotlight on it (which stays off by the way) ![]() Oh yeah, I think Wisconsin people drive so bad is they're hoping they'll block in an Illinois driver. ![]()

I get the same results when I ride my H-D Road King, Jay. The local cops all ride them, and I have a helmet that looks quite a bit like theirs. It's just amazing how many people slow down and move over from in front of me. I only wish they did that when I'm in the 911.

Chris and Moses always seem to have the good thoughts.
I'd vigorously support raising the bar in terms of licensing requirements. Any 16 year-old with twenty bucks can drive in my state. Cruising in the passing lane is not okay. American drivers are idiots though, so much so that the majority are not even knowledgeable enough to BEGIN serious driving instruction. Think about it. In my country you can pretty much do anything you want as long as you don't go faster than 60 mph. In Germany it's teh opposite. Speed is not the issue, behavior is. Conventions. In my humble view, it's not speed that causes collisions for the most part. It's stupid stuff. Drivers doing stupid stuff. And in America, stupid stuff is perfectly legal. Today there was a young girl competing for position with the fastest drivers (some of us were going upwards of 80). For at least twenty miles she was having the most interesting and informative cell phone conversations I have ever watched. I think we should all be issued paintball guns. When we see in idiot or a maniac, we can mark the car to help alert others in the future.

then all the self-proclaimed vigilante drivers (aka: left-lane hogs) would be shooting all the p-car drivers!
