Say what? I'm looking at the 40mm Marina Automatic, which their website says has their exclusive OP III calibre with 21 jewels. Who is it outsourced from? I've never heard of a $50 automatic movement.

Boy, you can pick them.

Well, each to his own, its all good fun. Enjoy your watches.

I knew you'd chime in, especially if I mentioned the Meistersinger!

You got me. :-) Sounds lie you are impressed with that watch, in the flesh?

Its just that my father was a WW2 Italian frogman. Whenever I see a Panerai, its just too painful....

I haven't checked out a Panerai in the flesh yet; I've seen some on Timezone, and that got me interested. I browsed the website this weekend, and hope to check some out at an authorized dealer this week. Now, the Meistersinger is not too expensive, so I don't mind if it's not a great watch; I bought it more for it's looks. I'd definitely like to know if the Panerai's are over-priced. I'm pretty new at this - until last year, every watch I owned was geared toward recording my running split-times

Panerai have used all sorts of things. I think most watches have Unitas of variuos calibres at present. In the past they have used Zenith, Rolex, JLC and I think Omega movemets as well.

There are a million fakes around of pannies, too.

You want a good automatic watch for under $500? Ollech and Wajs

check out www.westcoastime.com

http://www.westcoastime.com/milandmilsty.html
http://www.westcoastime.com/milmilinwatp.html

Some have sapphire, they're stainless, some are divers, some have a 12hr gmt bezel, some have a 60min bezel. And WCT puts the tritium Marathon dial on some of the O&W watches which makes for a pretty cool watch too.

Favorite watch, that's a tough one, so many good ones and so many that are almost perfect, but not quite. It's like picking a favorite woman or favorite sunset. I don't think it's possible.

For a great leather band...

Jürgen's Tropic leather pilot's straps
These are absolutely the best strap in hot and humid climates or if you are wearing your watch during recreational activities. The tropic strap looks identical to the standard strap, however, there is an important difference. The Tropic style strap has a very supple natural rubber on the inner surface (against the skin) and a sheet of breathable gore-style permeable membrane sandwiched between the rubber and the leather. The tropic straps are exceptional in hot weather and humid climates. The leather will be protected from odors and moisture. These straps are really nice!
I've got a black and a brown, and I swap back and forth depending upon my shoes and belt.

I agree, Movado's look great. Not functional? Depends upon which model you get.

My Tag Heuer Monaco:

Before that I had an Omega Seamaster and before that I had a Rolex Submariner
The Rolex was nice, but it made me feel like I was trying to look like a high powered whatever. I didn't like the image. Plus most thought it was a knock-off, which is wasn't. The Omega was nice. I gave it to my father. I ike this Tag because it's never missed a beat, has a classy yet duarbale look, and I don't see them every day. It fits my personality well.

Currently wear a Blue Angels Citizen (and love it). My wish list one would be a classic Rolex but doubt I'll ever see the need (much less have the opportunity) to spend $5,000 on bling-bling for myself.

Rolex also sponsors a way-cool racing series. That's gotta' count for something.

LOL I have a Seiko lasalle gold watch in my night stand, but I almost never wear it.
Instead, my top pick is a timex indiglo, $15 at wall-mart.

They last for freaking ever.
I had one for at least 8 years and never put a new battery in it. Eventually the buttons stopped working so I couldn't change the time for daylight savings.

I bought another just like it about 4 years ago. The other day I was out in the garage and found the old watch up on a shelf. I checked, and it was 1 hour and 40 seconds off. The 1 hour was obvious (DST) , but the darned watch is at least 12 years old and is still running on the original battery and is only 40 seconds off!

I don't go for the whole image thing, if I need a watch to make me cool then I aint.
I like what is smart and this cheapo watch works well and runs for ever, that is hard to beat.

I don't need a fancy watch to make me cool... I just need a watch that is as cool as I already am. I don't need no arm-junk bringing me down, man. (It's funnier if you actually know me...)
