Need some real American help here...

Hi all,

Getting my house (and fence, garage etc.) exterior painted soon and want to change the colours.

It's a weatherboard (timber) Californian bungalow style home built in 1921. Probably different to what actual Californians call a Californian bungalow, but this is what Australians where calling them back in the day of bowler hats and "model T" Fords.

I want the colors to be modern but not to detract from the period style of the home. If you know what I mean. Most people tend the paint them in cream or off white with light green around the windows over here. Like the PO did to mine. "So 1994"

Looking at some of the US based home makeover shows on Foxtel, I must say I am generally impressed with some of the color schemes over there.

So all you timber "old school" home owners out there in the USA please post pics and offer any suggestions you like.

Heres a "before" pic. It's the only one I have handy and the silver handbacg outfront is not mine. It belongs to my wife's hairdresser Bradley who's boyfriend has since made him sell it because the interior was "icky"

It's worth more if you keep it the original color; people will wonder if it's been in an accident or something

They are called "Craftsman Bungalow" for the most part, since the houses were available from Sears as kits(!!!) under the Craftsman brand name.

There are whole neighborhoods in Pasadena set aside as historic bungalow areas.

On the origins:

Quite a few coloration ideas here:
