Geez, lendaddy, just think of all the "Sin Tax" that you will be denying the bureaucrats.

. . . they want you to stop, doncha know? . .. that's the only reason they put a "Sin Tax" on those things.

Sorry, supe. . . I know that the tax-angle likely encourages your habit.
. ...Knowing that the all-caring gubmint makes more profit off a pack than the evil tabacco company, must be tough to resist.

How's everyone doing out there? Two months and counting. I don't even get cravings much anymore but beer consumption is still pretty high.

Fine here, pretty sure I'm over the hump. I don't get the mental cravings (as intense) anymore. I've stopped gaining weight and am back on the way down. I don't have the oral fixation with suckers anymore either. So I guess you could say I'm in remission. I don't say cured because I made it 6 months once.

Oh yea, my beer consumption is on the way back down as well. 3 months seems to be the tipping point, well for me anyway. Best of luck to you guys.

Oh yeah, I forgot to tell you guys. I quit smoking on the 3rd of Feb. Caught the flu, smokes tasted like garbage when your stuffed up. Just decided to give it up. Been on nicorette. Really helped for the first week or so then I decided I didn't really need it. I've had a piece here and there but it's not really needed.

Food tastes better now!

If you want to take an intermediate step, i.e cut down, I have a suggestion for you smokers out there... Instead of buying a pack of smokes, buy a bag of roll-your-own tobacco and do just that. I smoke Bali-Shag, imported by C.W. Obel.

Since it takes time to roll a smoke and you can't do it while driving (takes two hands!), I've found that it cuts down on my smoking significantly. I smoke maybe 4 cigarettes now a day. When I do smoke them, they don't burn as fast and I smoke them about 1/2 way down before I throw the nice biodegradable leavings away in a trash can. The quality of the tobacco is leaps and bounds beyond the store-bought crap, too.

You get about 50 cigarettes out of a $4.99 pouch.
Wow, I've done that... I still think it's like anything else... moderation. Same with drinking, etc etc.

Quote:
Question: How many here have never bought a carton of cigarettes because it would confirm (to yourself) that you're a (hooked) smoker....kinda want to quit......buy one packat a time.....
Do you have any idea how many times I've said that to myself???

Anyone else joining in?
A collective 3 cheers for facing this difficult challenge head- on.
How many left? How many joined in? Any true confessions? First there were 7 - How many non-smokers now?

Let's hear some success stories!

Warning to you who have quit recently...it's been more than a decade since my final camel. I just finished one of Cindy's excellent roast beef dinners. GAWD I WANT A CIGARETTE!

It, the desire, never leaves you...you can only develop the will to resist the desire.

It's only been a couple months for me and there is hardly a minute that I don't think about it.

4 Days here, I'm using the patches though, so I'm not sure it counts! I smoked a pack of Camel Wides a day, and I'm ready to start chewing these damned Patches!

Seriously though, they do take the edge off just enough to give you time to really decide if you want a cigarette. So far the answer is YES, but no thank you.

God help us all!!

It's true that the craving never really goes away. Well, it's been over 12 years now for me (ex. 1 pk/day smoker) and every once in a while I want a cig.

The reward for giving up, on Monday for some reason I totally caved (stressed with work) and at 7-11 I added a pack of ML to my coffee purchase. I smoked one on the way to work and it made me dizzy then nauseous. On the way home I smoked another with the same result. I tossed the pack that night.

Well it's time to face the music and confess - went along fine for a few months and then started up again. The reasons were many however they all add up to BS justifications for my addictions. The one thing I do know is that accountability and a group approach is critical and this thread helped me in both accounts. Time to try again. I need a few days to get through some job interviews and then? Any takers?

I'll be there with you. I was off smokes for a month, started up again for 1 pack = 4 days (stressed out due to job insecurity), now am off again. Still stressed out, but over the initial shock.

Put us into another lime light like this thread did, and give us some moral support to kick the habit?

What the heck........ I'll try it. I've been wanting to quit for a couple of years now, but lacked the will power to do so on my own.

You'll have to start a new thread when this begins. I'll try to psyche myself up for it.....

Oh yeah.... A pack a day of Swisher Sweet little cigars, Menthols to make things even worse...

Started chewing here again with the divorce. At least I got rid of my WORST and MOST DEADLY POISON! That makes about 5 or 6 times I've quit. I'm getting good at the quiting part. . . . When I finally move to Florida. . . .

For those who made it this far DO NOT GIVE UP! No ONE cig, or ONE dip! It is ONLY the addiction speaking. Going back does NOTHING! (Unless your in my posiiton where you go back because you lost the other half who is sucking the life out of you, it is not worth it!) It just makes you feel like cr@p and hooks you again.

TOBACCO, AND ANYONE WHO PUSHES IT, SUCKS BUTT!!!!! I'll see you tobacco pushers in hell! . . . . I'll be in the lawyers' lounge.

Right there with you Paul! I'm back to one can of Copenhagen every other day. Stress at work put me over the edge. I know it's a weak excuse, but I really don't care for what my asignment is curently and it helps me deal with it.

Update:

Hugh's thread got me wondering how long it had been and it appears it's been three years last week.

Hugh, maybe this thread will help you as there are lots of good ideas and info in here.

FWIW, I have not had a ANY smoke not a single puff since this thread started. The mental approach does work.
