I get frustrated if i refresh pelican and there arnt six posts! is there a forum i missed? i just went to the 911 forum and i might stop by once and again, but besides that, it just made this site even more appealing...

I always meant to sign up on the Rennlist, however 4 years ago when I started my love affair with my car, the Pelican Board was the first I signed on to. The rapport and reponses were so good from the beginning that I've never really been anywhere else!

I was a long time Rennlister, from back in the early 90's when it was PorscheFiles, before this 'www' craze took off. I played in both camps for a while, then came over for good.

All the boards are useful. Steve Wiener posts there fairly often. And I have seen posts by Carey Eisenlohr (Mr. erp) and a few who have put a 993 rear susp. into an early car. The volume is much, much lower than Pelican and the last couple of weeks there's been a recent decline in the type of posts I'm interested in.
Early 911S forum has more info on concours correctness than here or Rennlist. That's of some peripheral interest to me. Also, there are several people there with real RS's and that is more interesting. Pelican certainly has more technical experts than the others, but I would not want to see the others vanish.

This is an incredibly active board. You can always find interesting posts to read.
I'd be sort of lost without this place.

Most of the worthwhile posters bailed out of Rennlist awhile back when they turned ridiculously mercenary. They put the bite on everyone pressuring you to buy a "membership". They don't have free classifieds anymore. They seem to be constantly be trolling for advertisers, and protect them by not allowing any criticism of their products nor discussion of any non-paying vendors products. It's like a freakin socialist dictatorship over there.

Sounds more like capitalism gone bad but how you equate that with socialism is beyond me.

When they split the group between the mailing list and the Pelican-like bulletin board it lost a lot of its momentum.
Still, there are some great guys on all the boards.

More it's just that John D. doesn't want to continue going broke while trying to provide a service to the Porsche-owner community. This board is subsidized by a business - a fairly large one at that. Rennlist is subsidized by. . . John D. He sinks a lot of his own personal money into that board and I don't blame him for going after advertisers / sponsors in order to help keep the costs down. Happily a member over there, and probably will renew.

The 993 Rennlist board is pretty good, and I joined up with them because there are knowledgeble people talking specifically about that model.
Sure they don't have the volume of this place, but I got several questions answered quickly, and some moral support, when I was doing a lightweight flywheel/clutch upgrade on my '95 last weekend. I think there's a place for both boards.

rennlist has 10 times the traffic this place does. But this place has 10x the a s s h o l e s and rejects. All the garbage people ejected ends up here. You got these boards with a dozen vets who are bully azzholes, a dozen jesus freak posting man coulter propaganda and trolls all over the place.

Rennlist has a great 964 community (with some very knowledgeable, technical and artistic people participating) and the 993 board is very active. I think the 996 board has some great discussions as well. However, as other have said, the Rennlist 911 section pales in comparison with Pelican. Each board has their strengths and weaknesses.

The Rennlist racing email list and web list were always pretty strong, but I tend to agree that "most" of the 911 crowd has landed over here and "most" of the 914 crowd has landed someplace else.
I just recently let my Rennlist membership go and don't visit much anymore, after being fairly active since 1999. Times change.

I actually started at Rennlist first (an actual paying member), then migrated over here (on Sept 10, 2001 of all dates). As has been said above, the current strength of the Rennlist board seems to be in 964 and newer. They've gone through a few look and feel and organizational changes, and imho lost pretty much anything they had going at least with the main 911 board...and the classifieds used to be good, now aren't useful.

I like the 930 board on rennlist.. there's some very knowledgable people there.. and I prefer not to hang with common 911 riff-raff if I can avoid it.. jk!

red, where do you fit in ? oh wait i get it, so cal brian, for the second time in 12 hours has shown me the light.
i agree with colin above regarding the 993 bias over there. 10 thumbs kurt nailed it too, i would have a harder time stopping my pelican habit than i am trying to kick smoking.
