StuartJ - you sound as if you know all the details as to why we (the US) and others are involved in the Iraqi occupation. I suspect you think you know the reasons but I can bet the 401K that you do not. You are a man of compassion which is admirable. You dislike the killings and suffering and that makes you a good person. To base a judgement on scarce facts and mis-information is a waste of your energy. None of us really knows the full deal. I bet your town could use a guy like you to straighten things out.

I believe the ambitions of Mr Bush's Xtian right neocon nutbags are fairly well documented, and thanks to Kitty kat or whatever her name is and her army of mindless drones, thye have four more years to go at it.

Seems as if there is some confusion re: evangelicals vs. born again christians. Two distinct and totally different animals.

Milu 01-24-2005 12:50 AM

They can both be a pain:

Evangelists and BAChristians? One lot have had a shot of prozac and the other needs it. Atheists don't knock on your door asking you to stay in bed on Sunday morning and they don't infiltrate forums with propaganda.

Zman and DJC have already said it, their actions don't do their cause any good and they seem to be attracting more and more losers and nutcases to pester the rest of us.

I enjoy discussion on the subject with minds such as Z-man and DJC, but I object to mindless bombardment offering doom, despair and damnation if I don't join the sect.

There are three religious truths:
a. Jews do not recognize Jesus as the Messiah.
b. Protestants do not recognize the Pope as the leader of the Christian
faith.
c. Baptists do not recognize each other in the liquor store or at Hooters.

hey all,

I saw this post and thought I'd chime in.

I don't actually have any problem with the original post.
and would probably agree with it had I been able to read past the 3rd line.

As has been said it was very confusing to read so I gave up,
not sure wther the author wanted a discussion as to just posting what he/she felt.

I dont think there should be a problem with witnessing or airing your beliefe's. BUt it doesnt make it any easier for ppl if there is no "question" or "reason" for posting. Or having something that is vcery difficult to read.

Mind you fellas this was POST 1 from this poster so maybe they dont know any better.

And pls lets stop kicking off at other people and there beliefes (even if it does no agree with us/you)

It feels like a spam post, but its not advertsiing anything...

I dont know... :-O ?????

Adrian,

as you noticed it was a first and hopefully only post. Posting ones beliefs on a forum is fine if one is a member. Others are then free to agree, ignore, disagree or discuss. I don't think anyone has a problem with others having different beliefs until they start trying to force them on us. When it comes from an unknown on a forum I think it should be dismissed out of hand.

If by witnessing you mean knocking on my door and spouting religious propaganda I think there is plenty wrong with it. Speakers corner at Hyde park is the proper forum for that.

Hi Mate,

First question last !

1) I dont believe you have to be a "member" to post your beliefes either here or any other forum. as long as you dont breech any of the rules which this one "apparently" did'nt. Also it depends on your definiton of member. As long as your signed on your a member. Wether this was a good post for a first time poster on a Porsche Board (albeit) OT is debateable.

2) I dont think anyone was given a chance to agree or disagree, for the fact that, it was not clear wether a question was being asked or a POV was being debated, it was simply a statement. I did try again to read it, but got a headache !

There were things in there I understood and agree with. If I could read it I'd probably agree with the whole lot.

3) I dont think anything was being forced on anyone, you cant "force" a statement on somone especially if it is a belife, I can tell you I believe "xyz" and you say no I dont believe that. How have I forced my POV on you. You've just chosen not to accept it or pass it off as a lie or non-truth. It was purly a statement and thats all.

4) Witnessing means different things to different people, I've witnessed in many different ways, in fact I witness each and every time I Post or reply.

This thread was the equivalent of somone knocking on your door, and just going off on one, instead of introducing themselves and asking if you wanted to listen to what they were saying....

Usually you'd get your shotgun or slam the door.. so why did not people either just "ignore" the thread instead of slamming it OR reporting it to the moderator if they were TRULY offended by it.

I found some of the replies and graphics a bit tasteless.

I think also you are very wrong about where you can "witness" from any perspective/religion/beliefe or view. As long as it does not break the Terms of Service or Forums guidlines then I dont have a problem with it. It also helps if it's "READABLE" ;) ;)
clear and concise.

The good bit about forums you DO NOT need to read anything you can also put people on an Ignore list... see a post/thread you object to report it !

Interesting that people object, or feel "forced by a persons beliefs". But are quite happy to post graphics of a sexual nature, or not complain, cuss each other, blah blah bla blah...

Also when you witness at any other place than where you normally worship, yuo "expect" to get flak, harrasment, etc etc, and thats not why you do or dont do it.

Now Milu.... First question last....
as I already said last post, this looks like a spammer of sorts, cos they posted on a tech board as well, same name, First post..
so I did the right thing, instead of beeyathcing about it I reported it and left it in the hands of our moderators.

so for
a) content, prolly good
b) method of delivary,
c) did it hurt anyone .... no

time for some cawfee

Adrian,

for the record:

I reported this post before the first reply and I am sure I was not the only one.

This post is obviously spam and thus does breach rules. I can only assume it was not removed because by the time a moderator saw it it had already stimulated discussion. There has been a gamut of religious propaganda being pushed on forums in the last few days, there must be a full moon. This is the only one that I haven't seen deleted.

The fact that you might agree with the content is fine. I actually read and found parts offensive. We are both within our rights in this. If you had posted it, I would either have ignored it or debated the matter with you. I am sure you would have replied. THIS IS A SPAMMER. Not a first time poster.

I cannot be forced to believe, but I can object to being preached at, especially by a one post wonder.

As it happens and already stated I object to people knocking on my door and even presuming that I may want to listen to them. I value my privacy and my reaction is very strong. even if polite in the first instance. Mendicants, preachers, door to door vendors and other no goods do not usually choose to try a second time.

Graphics and replies tasteless? Perhaps, but I have a very sick sense of humour so I thought they were funny and more respectful than KK deserved.

I still don't understand what is meant by witnessing or what you mean by it. It sounds like jargon and it is starting to seem obnoxious, especially so if the opening post is an example.

As you say, time for a coffee (Irish in my case) and Buffy the vampire slayer on TV.

While I think it is in poor taste to make the first post a religous one, you don't have to read or reply to it. There's stuff on this board I don't agree with and some I find highly offensive. The question is your maturity level in how you respond to it. This forum isn't your personal front door and to extrapolate any type of commonality is a huge stretch. If you didn't agree with the post, then why did you read all of it and furthermore, why did you bother to reply?

My first reaction was to report it. I did.

I read it because I found it funny. (No offense intended to Christians, it was the style that amused me)

I did not reply to it I replied to other posts.

My objection was that it was posted by a spammer. If it had been posted by a real member I would either have ignored it or replied.

I think the commonality to my front door does apply when it is a spammer.

Now please, go forth and multiply

jm951 01-24-2005 02:24 PM

I can agree with reporting it as spam, but if you think this forum your personal property.....

Like watching TV, don't like the show, change the channel.

Witness this. If you stick your head up to peddle your medieval hokum, it will get kicked.

No one is required to give deference or credence to the beliefs of the terminally stupid.

Have a nice day.
