Cool Cream finally re-unites !!!

Hello Gang, This may not mean much to most of the younger members of this forum, but I believe that many of the older members (like me) will be happy to hear that the old Supergroup "CREAM" will be re-uniting this May. They will be at the Royal Albert Hall in London for four nights only, no info yet if they will tour the States. I found out this info on Jack Bruce's website. www.Jack Bruce.com Please excuse my enthusiasm, as I have been waiting since 1968 for this to happen. Hey ! group trip to England ? Doug

Naw. Is Ginger Baker still with us? I can't remember, having been alive back then...

Sweet!!!
Ginger is one of the most underrated drummers of all time, IMO.
I think he is still with us.

Last I heard Ginger was living in Italy on an olive farm and pretty much not interested. Now if West Bruce and Lang tour......

Saw Mountain about a year ago at a small club in Newport Richey Florida and man they tore it up!

Hi Guys, thanks for the replies, Yes, they are all alive and kicking, Jack has recovered from a liver transplant last year that almost killed him, He has been touring off and on over the years, as I have seen him three times in San Francisco over the last 20 years, with his "travelling band of the moment" and oddly enough Ginger was with him on two of the occasions. He is supposed to have been clean after a 20+year heroin addiction ! I guess like Keith Richard, when they check out, they will have to be laid to rest in a toxic waste dump. Good old Eric has done the best financially of the gang, losing all of his addictions over 15 years ago, and making millions along the way. It will be interesting to see if they can recapture that Magic they used to make when they used to jam. Its nice to see that there are some Pelicans that remember. Doug

I remember Cream. They split long before I was born, but I grew up with musicians for parents and remember listening to Cream since I was a little kid. Great band. And a three piece at that. All three of them were amazing. Clapton’s tone on those albums is one of the greatest guitar tones ever. I bet they still have it.

Only in existence for a short period, THE #1 "Power Trio" of all time...IMO.
.
Crazy Ginger Baker w/his double bass tribal-rock drumming.
Jack Bruce, great voice and an underrated bassist.
Eric Clapton, well, we all know that one.
.
I have their first few albums, still.
The live version of Crossroads (one of EC's favorites, so I've read) on Wheels Of Fire comes charging and pounding hard out of the gate and the intensity doesn't stop. The video of Crossroads live is amazing, as well.
I also like the live version of After Midnight.
.
'Gotta love that white-boy electric British Blues!

Ahem... my memories from those years are a little foggy but...

I think the movie was "Cream at Carnegie hall" that I saw in Hollywood at a midnight show (in quadrasonic!)

Anyway they were doing crossroads (again-I think) and the crowd is in rapture, sitting perfectly still, perfectly silent... E.C. was right on the edge of the stage with his back to the crowd as the song ended... at that precise second the crowd instantly jumped into air screaming at the top of there lungs.. Eric was so shocked he just about jumped out of his skin.

I think Pink Floyd at Pompeii was the second feature...

Angus Young is the king of tone. Clapton invented the greatest signature tone ever with an early JTM45 and a Gibson. Angus made it bigger with heavier strings

Clapton, being the chameleon he is, has had a number of signature tones. The "woman tone" during the Bluesbreaker days, the Marshall/SG tone of Cream, the Strat/Champ tone from D&tD, then the slightly fatter strat tone from the 80's on. I've worn out a number of albums learning Clapton stuff.

And yes Tabs, I do believe everything I read on subway walls. How do you think I find my "special friends"?

Big amen to that Static. The man of a thousand faces AND tones. Yeah I thought about BB and Duane also but BB has his signature sound and licks and that is pretty much about it. Duane I think was influenced by EC though. Angus is a crusher he made me love SGs again. Now HE could be a contender for King of Crunch..although that could be a separate thread.

This is going to kick ass.

I had a old hippie friend who saw them play at the Whiskey and he said to me with incredible enthusiasim that he saw smoke coming off Clapton's fretboard during the solo in Crossroads. LOL might be true or might be a lot of acid.

I'd love to see this live. I thought Ginger Baker was dead as well......

Not a bad list, there.
May I add Mississippi John Hurt, John Fahey, Leo Kottke, Sandy Bull for some flavor...then a pinch of Ry Cooder, 'n Mike Bloomfield?
Sheese, the list is endless.
