I find this post interesting. I think it should have been deleted after the first few reply. That said, I find the responses somewhat revealing to me. The negative comments are most likely coming form the liberal side of the house. You know, the ones that preach tolerance, diversity, acceptance. 584 views and 40 responses. If you don't like the original post why didn't you ignore it and move on? All the replies has just proved one thing to me, but then again that's my opinion and I'll keep it to myself.

Because its entirely inappropriate and therefore fair game to ridicule... I don't actually take offense to the post.... I see it as more of an opportunity to heckle someone who had no business posting on this forum in the first place.

Gospel is unilaterally offensive - which is prob. why so many people are pissed @ this thread.

Anyway - Bush doesn't repesent all Christians by a long shot - as I said the Gospel (the fact we can't save ourselves & God did it for us in spite of the fact we don't deserve it) offends:

1) Conservatives - who don't like the fact that there is social injustice in the world & we're called to work against it - that the poor will be amongst us & we're called to minsiter to them (the Bible DOES NOT SAY God helps those who help themsevles - we are called to help the weak) That we're called to 'turn the other cheek' - that Biblical strength lies in weakness not bombing our neighbors. Jesus, Son of God - died on a cross in the ultimate act of turning the other cheek.

2) Liberals - who don't like the fact that the world is not realative - that being a 'good person' is not going to get you anywhere b/c you can't earn favor or points with God. That there are penatlies to breaking the law - that we can't define God's law - that he in fact has designed it. That not everything is permissiable.

The gospel hope is that the broken world we all live in will one day be renewed (Jesus is the ultimate envoirnmentalist) - that when the kingdom comes - all sad things will become undone - that heaven is not us going up, but a new kindgom that comes down and restores the world to the way God orginall designed it - and that we'll experience ultimate Shalom - or God's peace.

Pretty amazing.

Sorry for the rant, but I was a hardened agnostic dabbling in Eastern philosphy who moved to NYC and seriously never wanted to or intended to become a believer, but it happened.

I rest in the knowledge that I'm never going to be able to get it together. I think deep inside I always understood that, and I'm thankful that God got it together for me.

There are people on this forum who find this type of cyber-proselytising disturbing. If it's OK on this board, how about some equal time? If someone was to post a thread quoting some of the Qu'ran and admonishing non-believers in Islam, We'd see how long that lasts.

Sorry, this is totally the wrong place to talk about this, but your comment hit on something that I happened across the other day (in my daughter's study materials) that was a new insight for me...

Accordingly, it is the duty of those with greater talents to help those with lesser talents, and conversely, it is the duty of those with lesser talents to accept the help of those with greater talents.

This hit me, because I quite often go through life pissed off that I'm always having to help out the idiots that I work with and live with (probably others feel that way about me). This little "teaching" made me rethink my position.

Everyone's got there beliefs, sexual preference, and political views...and you know what? That's just fine....but they are PERSONAL, and it is inappropriate to preach, flaunt, or pontificate in MOST public settings, including this forum for example.
So keep them to yourself or stay on the Christian forum and philosiphicate yourselves until you're enraptured.

It's just this kind of sneaky self-righteous clandestine behavior that this miss-directed AFriend-dude or dudette has created that gives the Neochristians a bad rap.

This thread seemed OK at first because it was harmless humor. Poking a little fun, posting funny pictures. Some were a little offended, but more by the spam attack than the message, I think. afriend is probably like those guys that drive down the street throwing bibles on every doorstep. A shotgun approach to many BBS services, not even looking back at this one. So, being that its here - it is fair game.

As far as religious types that are suddenly counting numbers of views or posts in an attempt to measure interest in god or satan or the Qu'ran. I wouldn't bother. Its all just entertainment and you're reading too much into it. Its winter, people are bored, and it showed up to hammer at (like a godsend!).

And as far as the pictures, thats been decided by the moderator and the person that owns and pays for this board - no point rehashing. There's a new BBS you can join to see pictures if you want, just find the link on Shannon's posts. Its basically the same people from here that want more "adult" content, and one reason it was created was exactly for those reasons. Not to keep trying to change the format over here - which won't happen. That board is always looking for new members.
