Hmmmph, there is a fiscal DISINCENTIVE to marrying here in NZ. At least for me.
If we were not married, I suspect my wife could claim a student allowance. And we're not allowed to income split either.

I'm telling you, get the gov out of things like marrage - make it religious based with no financial dis-incentives or incentives. The model gets readjusted and a basic problem becomes moot.
