About 140 mph after exiting turn 4 at Lowes Motor Speedway. That was in my 911.

azasadny 04-02-2007 08:15 AM

140mph in an Aston Martin Vantage back in January of this year.

Extra points to the Geo and Civic's racing downhill, along with motorcycles and convertibles going fast.................they just are outside the envelope of what is reasonable and sane.:D

1978 Honda Hawk 110 mph back when I weighed 125 lbs 27 years ago.

1977 Porsche 911 three years ago 140 mph with the targa off, but windows rolled up.

I'm to old to be that silly now.;)

145 in my Supra Turbo way back when...young & dumb :)

Just hit 170 in my buddy's '02 M3 Coupe which was slightly modded for racing. That was quite fun. :D

How about 127 mph on 18 wheels???

You guys think 150+ on 2 or 4 wheels is something, try over 125 in '81 Peterbilt pulling a 48' reefer with a load of chickens in it.

It gets really quiet just over 110, and then the front end actually gets light at 120.

When it gets to 115, and you decide to let off but it keeps climbing, that's when you realize this is a really, really, bad idea......

Then, at 127 mph, it's, "OH, *****!!!! How am I going to stop this thing??"

Luckily, I was able to choke the motor down with the brakes. ;) The fuel system on the CAT was running away, but choking it got it stopped in time before it detonated.

That'll put gray hairs on your head, for sure.....;) All this twenty some years ago when I was, well, more adventurous.....

180 mph, black Porsche 996TT. I snatched a glance as the needle swung to 300kmh, as the Austrian Stig beside said "wait..wait...wait...BRAKE" as 3rd gear right hander loomed. The Hand of God, or the Big Reds came down and squashed the car into the asphalt, wiped off 120mph in what felt like 40 feet. Awesome bit of kit.

Was making the transition from one freeway to another today. I could see the driver in the Honda 2000 in front of me checking me out in his rear view mirror...his top was down.

We entered the on-ramp at about 35 mph and he started to get on it. Not to be out done, I laid into my own, right behind him.

I was pretty surprised when I finally looked at the speedo and saw the needle just a bit north of 120. Surprised that my car actually had that in her. I was even more surprised by how much she still was offering to me. :D

Randy,
When I drove through there, I couldn't get out of 1st gear as there was bumper-to-bumper traffic! Be careful!!

Me an' Earl was haulin' chickens
On a flatbed outa Wiggins
And we had spent all night on the uphill side
Of thirty seven miles of hell called Wolf Crick Pass
Which was up on the great divide

And we was sittin' there suckin' toothpicks
And drinkin' Nehis an' onion soup mix
And I says "Earl, let's mail a card to mother
And then send them chickens on down t'other side"
Yeah, lets give them hens a ride

Wolf Crick Pass way up on the great divide
Truckin' on down, the other side

Well Earl put down his bottle
Mashed his foot down on the throttle
And then a couple of boobs, with a thousand cubes
In a 1948 Peterbuilt screamed to life
We woke up the chickens

We roared up off'n that shoulder
Sprayin' pine cones rocks 'n boulders
And put four hundred head of them Road Island Reds
And a couple of burnt out roosters on the line
Look out below...cause here we go

Wolf Crick Pass way up on the great divide
Truckin' on down, the other side

Well we commenced a truckin'
And them hens commenced a cluckin'
Then Earl took out a match, and scratched his pants
And lit up the unused half of a dollar cigar
And took a puff
Says "My ain't this pretty up here"

And I says "Earl this hill can spill us
You better slow down or you gonna kill us
Just make one mistake and it's the pearly gates
For them eighty five crates
Of USDA approved cluckers
You wanna hit second?"

Wolf Crick Pass way up on the great divide
Truckin' on down, the other side

Well Earl grabbed on the shifter
And he stabbed her into fifth gear
And then the chromium plated, fully illuminated
Genuine ac-cessory shift knob
Come right off in his hand
I says "you wana screw that thing back on Earl ?"

He was tryin' to thread it on there
When the fire fell off a his cigar
And dropped on down sorta rolled around
And lit the cuff of Earls pants
And burnt a whole in his sock
Yeah it sorta set him right on fire

I looked on outa the window
An' I started in a countin' phone poles
Goin' by at the rate of four to the seventh power
I put two an' two together
Added twelve, an' carried five
Come up with twenty two thousand telephone poles an hour

I looked at Earl an' his eyes was wide
His lip was curled and his leg was fried
And his hands was froze to the wheel
Like a tongue to a sled in the middle of a blizzard
And I said Earl I'm not the type to complain
But the time has come for me to explain
That if you don't apply some brake real soon
They're gonna have to pick us up with a stick an' a spoon

Well Earl rared back
Cocked his leg
Stepped down as hard as he could on the brake
And the pedal went clear to the floor
And stayed - right there on the floor
Says it's sorta like steppin' on a plum
Well from there on down it just wasn't real pretty
It was hairpin county and switchback city
One of 'em looked like a can full of worms
Another one looked like malaria germs
Right in the middle of the whole damn show
Was a real nice tunnel now wouldn't you know
Sign says clearance to the twelve foot line
But them chickens was stacked to thirteen nine
Well we shot that tunnel at a hundred an' ten
Like gas through a funnel an' eggs through a hen
An' we took that top row of chickens off
Slicker 'n the scum off a Louisiana swamp
Went down an' around an' around an' down
An' we run outta ground at the edge of town
An' bashed on into the side of a feed store
In downtown Pagosa Springs

Wolf Crick Pass way up on the great divide
Truckin' on down, the other side

Wolf Crick Pass way up on the great divide
Truckin' on down, the other side

115mph on a 78 Honda750K w/full Vetter fairing back in high school when it got bad front end wobble.
130mph in a Neon going through Nevada, but it didn't seem so fast because traffic avg was 95mph+.

Probably set a record coming down Mt Diablo in NorCal- brakes were mush at the bottom and the cabin filled up with brake dust so I couldn't see the passenger. That was extremely stupid though and never again. I keep to the granny driving nowadays.

135 in a '69 Charger, not a smooth 135 at all. 115 on a Shadow 700, also not particularly smooth
