somewhere around 170mph in the carrera
|
160 in a 90's 'Vette out on the Cape. Convinced me never ever to buy one of those (not that I really considered it).
155 on my Triumph on the beltway in DC...saw the state trooper in the lane up ahead, released the throttle and was still going 100 when I passed him. Should have touched the brakes to slow down quicker but didn't. |
Over 165, with the top down, on a deserted country road on a cool sunny day.

It is funny that this thread and the one about speeding (some of our fellow Pelicans claim that they never speed  ) are the two most popular at the moment.
Me, I've done 135 on the NJ Tpk (empty, early in the morning) in my RSX-S. I haven't had the 911 long enough to do much speeding. |
160 in a rental

Somewhere between Barcelona and Monte Carlo I got up to 155mph in a Ferrari 360. The car was rock solid even at that speed - it wanted to go faster, I just didn't have the balls.
Only been up to about 130 in the 930 and it starts to feel a little shakey around there. |

I use to own a mini cooper partially modded to 90HP fuel injected, I did 115mph
The car weighs 1500lbs. pasing a semi truck was not fun, it was scary as your car practically moves over to the next lane with a bit of wind blowing it. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1112910963.jpg |
A few weeks ago at Amelia Island I rode with Hurley Haywood in a Carrera GT on an airforce base. Hurley had the car up to about 185 before braking turning around and going through a slalom.
I drove a 1986 930 up to 140 on 309 expressway in PA. I had my 1979 930 up to 135 on the FL turnpike. Sloane Russeck 1979 930 1989 930S cab |
You can deride the C4S for that 200 extra pounds that comes with the widebody, but she feels very stable at those speeds.

I hit (not literally)140 in my Carrera cariolet with the top down going to Palm Springs at 7AM with my buddy keeping up (but not passing me) in his new 540. Lots of fun but at that speed, I like a hard top over me.

155+, over 14000RPM. I used to do this routinely when I was young. On my KX-500 Kawasaki three cylinder, 1974. Never had a fast car before. I had one of my Microbusses up to 95 once.

112 in my car while sleeping
A couple of weeks after buying my car I took a road trip with some guys to SC for a guys golfing trip. On the way back on the Sunday, I took a nap while my buddy drove (and I tried to get over my hangover). It was a nice sunny day and the freeway was clear. I woke up somewhere near Ohio and looked over at my buddy....he had both hands on the Momo and a s*&^t eating grin on his face. He was playing cat and mouse with an Audi. I guess he had been averaging about 90mph for about two hours and was really enjoying his first P-car experience.
What a drive...at the next pee-break we had a bad case of startermotor heat soak, but a quick push start and the chase was on again.... Early unforgettable P-car speed fun. I have not had a chance to get much over 100 since. |
