A friend of my former father in law bought a 959 new so more than 15 years ago now. My father in law knew about my P-car interest and asked the owner if I could ride with him. Said sure, why not.

To this day one of the most thrilling moments of my life. Me in my early 20th, drooling of Porsche since a kid.

It was silver and the drive took place in Båstad, the little by quite famous village in South of Sweden. Among other things known for the Tennis championships where the old King came to play.

Anyway he starts up the engine and we drive out in the countryside. Make a stop and then he floors the pedal and the next ten seconds is just amazing. The punch in the back cant be described. We were doing over 270 km/hr (don't know what that would be in miles/hr) and this is on country roads !

When he came to a stop and turned of the engine, I could not move out of the seat. Just sat there in total awe.

In my 911 w/ 3.0 engine:
95 (ish) MPH today on a long country road.
110 MPH a couple of weeks ago on the freeway when everthing looked clear.
I'm suprised at how well the car handled and still had more power left. Also very stable at high speeds. Other than those two or three occasions, I try not to speed.

Not as fast as most on this thread, but here is a picture of a VW Polo 1.6 I had, which was modified to produce +- 130kW. It could only achieve 215km/h (130mph?) on the speedo as the rev limiter then spoiled the fun. It was however scary to drive as the brakes were not up to it and the handling was poor, but it sure got the adrenalin pumping. The accelartion was very good (for a small VW) doing 0-100km/h (60mph) in about 7 seconds.

Fastest was 250km/h (155mph?) in a Mercedes E55 AMG on a deserted country road.

You run out of gas at that speed... you'd be coasting... yikes! :D

dailydriven911 08-03-2005 09:51 AM

In my srt-4 i did 150 w/ some room to go...just bought the porsche this last monday and cruised to 80mph...hehe:D

Bouncing on the rev limiter in a 944turbo - 156 indicated. (It was my friend's dad's. I'll never leave my P-car keys out if I leave the house with teenagers).:D :D

Didn't really seem that fast.

A little over 150+/- in my WRX STI (speedo said closer to 160)
150+ in my 930 (speedo was pegged)
Both cars feel rock solid.....watch out for deer.

Coming out of a little village in Essex, UK. Go from 30mpg limit to the national speed limit of 70mph my father in law says 'floor it' in his 928 GTS. Suddenly everything's a blur and we're at 165 in no time. I had to ease off for the next 30mph village.

Other than that, 140 through france in my wife's Volvo S40 T4. Couldn't work out why it wasn't faster until I realised one of the tyres was flat.

170 in a friends '83 512BB. He was passed out in the passenger seat. In 1984 that car was ungodly!

Fastest I've ever been - Mach 2.0, sipping a 1987 Krug at 58,500 feet on Concorde in 1999 and 2000. I will never forget those two flights, ever!

Fastest I've driven a car - 152 MPH in a big geared 1970 Dodge Roadrunner. At about 140 I passed a cop on the other side of the highway giving a ticket to someone. I lifted for a second or two and then punched it and figured I'd be two miles away before he got turned around. Along the way we passed a VW bug in the next lane and blew him over into another lane with the wake produced by our 90 mph speed differential.

Oh, and my fiberglass hood blew off the car, as did all the battery acid filler caps on the battery.

Crazy but fun in 1985.

Rode 152 mph on my '89 Yamaha FJ1200, stock except for taller gearing. (Speedo was off the end past 165, tach calculates to 152. Japanese motorcycle speedometers are about 10% optimism.) This is 1,000 rpm past power peak - pulls to 135 actual / 150 indicated with gusto and will stay there all day, but takes a while to get the last few mph.

Drove 140+ in a Q45, according to the speedo (previously radar-verified as accurate at 70 mph in a 50 zone.)

Drove 135+ in a '94 XJ12 sedan. Fastest I've ever gone while listening to Vivaldi (seemed right in that car.)

Drove 115 in the Miata. Should do better post-rebuild, but probably still scary with an 89" wheelbase.

Drove 110 in a Road Runner 440/6-pack - the car was still being restored, and wasn't complete enough to have moved under its own power five minutes prior to this. Not a real impressive number, but it felt plenty fast 1) on a surface street 2) at night 3) without seatbelts 4) with wheelspin (caught rubber into 4th.)

Rode in a 924 Turbo at 135 a long time ago (it was still under warranty.)

Might be able to get 200 mph in a friend's '92 Lumina this fall - we'll have to see.

100% correct, ....ALL Japanese bikes are like this......as I stated, my 9R was pegged at 190, but the GPS showed it was only 161.8mph...

My CBR1000RR showed 172mph, but the GPS said it was only
160mph....

680 knots ground speed in a FalconJet (.86 mach airspeed). 145mph (radar gun) going down through the "Kettle bottoms" at Road America in my GT-3 Corvair. I'm looking forward to seeing what the GT-3 911 will do there.

Brian Cameron 08-04-2005 09:25 PM

135 mph (indicated) in my 1979 SC. I chickened out before the car did.

Mach 2.05, Concorde from London to NY, April 1994. Best "fast food" I ever ate.

141 MPH - Hwy 17 in Scotts Valley towards Santa Cruz - 97 BMW M-3 - Fast as it would go

140 MHP - Hwy 1 Santa Cruz - 01 BMW X-5 4.4L - Maxed with 2 passengers

130 MPH - Hwy 1 San Mateo County - 02 Jaguar X-Type 3.0L - Maxed

150 MPH - Hwy 1 77 930 Kremer - Potentially a little faster - The speedo was maxed

Do I want to drive this fast again - Not Really!

101 in a 77 Honda Accord - downhill on 280 by Hillsborough when I was 17. Felt like the car was going to go airbone - scary. In stealth mode, I turned off the lights. Man I was smart when I was 17...

110 in the 87 Carerra with my (then) 13 year old son. Short sprint on US 1 past Big Sur. I'm now officially a chicken. Saving high speed for the track.

170+ in a Pitts S2-A. Upside down. Still smile thinking about that one...

Taken a leak at 750 MPH many times. Okay, it's in a 747, 777...but I still giggle thinking about it.

bigrubberjeep 08-05-2005 09:42 PM

120 MPH on the 15 freeway north (in the 911)
