Hitchhiker's Guide SUCKS!
well, I was really let down last last night.
THis movie doesnt even come close (IMHO) to capturing the essencce of the book... They cut out a LOT of the little dialouges that made the book so funny in the first place |

I read the book just this week so I could go see the movie...looks like i will save the money and just spend it on the woman.

Its been so long since I read the book I am hoping that I might be able to appreciate the movie if I see it.
No movie can ever live up to a good book IMHO, but those who are not familiar with what they are missing may like it. |

The only time that I have ever seen a movie that was better than the book was LA Confidential....that book was so convoluted I could hardly keep it all straight...

Anyone been keeping up with the new BBC radio series (yes, available online.)??
Don't forget that all of the available "versions" have conflicts with each other. Also remember that DNA wrote most of the movie, and the production crew was not really messed with by The Suits.

didn't read the book, but saw the movie last night. Kinda weak...B, maybe B-. Alan Rickman was wasted...it was funny the first or second time, but after that just annoying. He is great, and could have really stolen the movie. Other than that, just more typical hollywood bs. No resolution for some important plot points. Seemed like a hurry-up job on the script. They should have given it to Jack to fix

I saw the movie with a theater full of people who liked it - but I think they were all big fans of the book. I thought the movie was a solid 4 out of 5 and a fun revisit of the story and characters.
I should be able to see the BBC version again soon. I definitely prefer the BBC Trillian. There is NO WAY to fit everything in the book into the movie, but they did fit a lot of stuff in. Everybody already knows all the characters. The audience actually applauded at the end - something that is quite rare here. |

Book was no where near as good as the Radio Show. TV Show Sucked, except for the parts with the guide.
I have the radio show on CD. Excellent and it contains a lot of interviews about the 2 seasons. I had to go to Amazon.com.uk and have it shipped from England. It is missing the Pink Floyd music in Episode 4. I also have tapes of the radio show from way back when it was running on NPR, somewhere around 1979-1980, before the first book came out. Too bad the series didn't continue after episode 12. I lost interest in the books when they changed the story line in The Resturant at the End of the Universe. I expect I'll go see it, as a fan not a critic.

DNA was excellent at making rabbit trails fit well into the storyline. Movies are generally good at making clean storylines work well. Rabbit trails port poorly to the Big Screen, sadly, as much of what DNA did was just entertaining rabbit trails.
The dialogue was honestly a little disappointing. Aside from having left out a number of important points, they also delivered British humor with American style. It came off a bit poorly. (sigh) That said, it was still entertaining, and the characters were a lot of fun. Dan

I figured this would be the case Jared... ...but I've read the series soooo many times I just have to see the movie anyway. Maybe I'll wait for the rental now.. *sigh*

Actually he didn't become conscientious, so much as conscious. The movie was a worthy effort. I was particularly amazed at how Zaphod's second head was portrayed. |
