People get swept away with this stuff including model cars, beanie babies, toy guns, Barbie dolls, and lots of other stuff. Not my game.

I own a handful of classic American made guitars but don't consider myself a "collector" by any means.

One of my wife's relatives got totally into Beanie Babies. She had an entire bedroom full of them, and bragged how some were worth lots of money. Then the bottom dropped out of them. She got rid of her collection, and started on some other crazy collection.

I am a self avowed tool collector, but every one has a real use. Some don't get used much, but it is really nice to be at a point where I can just grab a tool to do a job, and not have to go buy a common tool.

That stated, I do still have my timing light, dwell meter, grandpa's "cordless" drill and brace. And the old saw, and some oil can spouts. Pretty sure I will never need the oil can spouts, or the dwell meter. If I pull the distributor on my El Camino, I do have to get an initial timing done with the timing light. From there the computer fuel injection takes care of the final timing.

I've never been successful at embedding from my phone either. I don't think it's possible due to a limitation in YT.

I worked with a guy in the late '90's that was deep in to NASCAR collectables. A room full of every Earnhardt #3 diecast edition. He would go to the races and buy them from those souvenir vendors outside the track. Huge money spent on them. He talked about them like they were GOLD. He died and his wife was stuck trying to get rid of them. She got about .15$ on the dollar for them. Sad.

When I was in college, I worked in a store in a mall that had a very weird selection of stuff for sale, but one of the things that we sold were "Precious Moments" figurines (as well as Hummel, Lladro, and other similar stuff). Horrible stuff (Precious Moments), but folks collected them. I suspect they were similar, probably not worth anything years later unless you find someone with disposable income that is still collecting, and even then, they are probably paying pennies on the dollar.

Reading is fundamental.

For anyone else who may have read too quickly, the thread is not about Adult Toy Collections.

Define toys!

My 911 is my biggest toy. Still just a big boy toy to me.

I think Will may have been thinking of another genre of toys

Not the "Mercury Mistress" sort of thing...

shared an office with a guy who collected dozens/scores of these. some astonishingly expensive. all well made, some beautifully crafted. but just odd.

he also had a girlfriend, which was astonishing.

Yeah, I don't get that either, but then there's plenty that I don't get. And I'm sure that there are folks that might look at things that I do or like or whatever and think "I don't get that."

I enjoy anime animation movies. Studio Ghibli has put out some fantastic stuff that I would put up against any of the big animators (Disney, PIXAR, whatever). But I don't get the figurines.

I've got a pretty decent Hot Wheels and Nascar collection in boxes, lol. I even have some Franklin Mint Richard Petty cars that belonged to my late brother-in-law. I definitely didn't collect the stuff as an investment, and I really don't care what the value of the stuff is. As I age, I will probably just give the stuff away anyway. My little 4 year old side kick, Zack, is going to have a big surprise one day, maybe when he turns 5 in a few months.
I do find it difficult to let go of the nascar stuff that belonged to my brother-in-law and the Hess trucks that were my Dad's.
