Impulse purchase

This just about fell into my lap - a 1968 VW single cab pickup. Very straight and dry, runs like a champ. Other than a couple of dings and a couple small rust spots on the gates, the only serious issue is the incorrect steering wheel. This thing is a blast to drive! The later gearing makes it much for street-friendly than either of my other buses.

Credit for the discovery goes to ///Mink

Sweet! I always wanted a crew cab version of a VW bus. Or one of these:

Watch out, soccer moms!

Very cool! My first drivable vehicle was a 63 Crew Cab Pick-up, Beasley. Robin egg blue, top land speed 45 MPH, could swap plates onto my 240Z but still drive the truck with the rear bed gate down.

I miss him dearly!

A coworker just sold his '66 split window bus (excellent mechanical, body needs help) to fund the final part of the restoration of his '73 MotoGuzzi..

It was $2000, which I think is a steal given it's condition and rarity. It came with over a decade of receipts and even the original owner's manual.

I'm up to 3 buses now. I've had some interesting ones over the years, wish I'd had the cash and space to keep them all. The two rarest were a '55 European (ie w semaphores) Westfalia - 3rd oldest known to exist, the other two are in the Westfalia museum in Germnay; and a 1954 right-hand-drive 23-window deluxe, of which there's a dozen or so worldwide.

Holy cow, what a great find! I have long held that if the wife wants a "minivan," we're getting a VW bus.

that thing is cherry. look at how good of shape the bed area is. my 99 truck i just sold had a more weathered bed.

T- one of these mornings you may go out and find a litter of little buses in the corral. i can see the way the two other are looking at the new memeber of the stable. spay or neuter?

I'd love to find me one. It would be nice to go with a 550 (replica at least). See pics below:

Great find there, Thom. I've been into the Bugs for years but have never had a bus. That might have to change some day. I gave my last Super Beetle, a '71, to my oldest son a year ago. My last remaining Bug, a '70 standard, will probably go to my youngest son when he is old enough. That will leave me "Bugless in Seattle". I have always wanted a Westy, so that might be the time to finally get one. There are a lot of nice, rust-free ones up around here.

The sloped westy roof rack in the 2nd pic would fetch close to $1000 today!

I keep seeing a, as the sticker says in the windshield, "powered by Porsche" bus around here. Baby blue with chrome Fuchs and friggin' fast for a bus.

Thom - you restore these and sell them, correct?
