I thought I was going to get in a fight this AM
Something really freaky happened just a half hour ago.
I was sitting in a Jiffy Lube waiting for my van to get serviced. Another customer walks in wearing shades and he immediately looks my way and stares. I couldn't see his eyes but he was definitely mad dogging me. Then he says I've got the wrong guy and I should call off the cops! He begins to tell me that he had just moved into town and that cops think he and his girlfriend are dealing drugs out of his house. The lady I was sitting next to looks at me and shrugs like, wtf? I tell him HE's got the wrong guy. He then gets up and starts pacing and ranting. I think to myself, I've been working out, can I take this guy if he goes nuts on me? The guy is a plumber, so says the logo on his truck, and he looks fit. But if he's a druggie, I might have a leg up. Then again, I have the soft hands of a pencil pusher. The last time I got in a fight was when I was taking martial arts class at 16 y/o and got my ass kicked in a match. That was 25 years ago and I don't remember the first thing about Kung Fu or Kung Pao anymore. Thankfully, his truck was done and he split muttering and staring at me as he leaves. Good thing because I was gonna go all Stan Lee on him. When was the last time you got in a fight? |

stan lee???? you would have gotten beat. you need "BRUCE"! BRUCE LEE! at least you didnt try spike lee. that would have gotten you nowhere. try to keep it straight.
on my first date with jen, the same thing happened. but the druggie/drunk fool got so close to my face, (from behind), it would have been too easy. i let him go, unhurt. with my dad's voice in my head, "dont forget you have elbows".

I'm a peacenik, but I come from a logging town. In one of the bars there's a sign saying
Absolutely No Fighting (don't even ask) In my experience, fistfights are generally over in thirty seconds. The trick is to hit the other guy in the face, and keep hitting him there until it's over. Don't box. Use big roundhouse swings rapidfire. Or better yet. Walk away.

I avoid fights like the coward I am.
A coward, you say? Yes, I'm afraid of going to jail for murder.

What are the laws for self-defense? My understanding was if you're hit first, and there are witnesses hopefully, you're okay to defend yourself.

I wonder if the plumber has ever been attacked by a flock of pelicans.

I'm a honorary youngster on the board (25), so my last fight wasnt to long ago. I was at a bar last halloween with a buddy from out of town. He's 6' 5" and I'm 5'11" , so he takes the lead walking through this very crowded bar (300-400 people). I look down for a second and by the time I look up hes across the room and im stuck in the middle. So I start making my way through the crowd. Walk sideways, saying excusse me the whole way through. Finally I bump into a guy wearing doctors scrubs and a fake nose and glasses. Probably 6'2" 200 lbs. I say "excuse mind if I get by you." He tells me to go f_ck myself and stares at me. My temper flared but I took the high road and said "I dont want any trouble can I PLEASE get by". He says " do you want to wear this drink mother f_cker?" I told he to calm down and relax. Its halloween. I go to walk by him and he pours the drink on my shirt! So I reared back as far as I could in the crowded area and hit him dead in the jaw. He slumped foward. I guess the whole time we were arguing his buddy was waiting right behind me. Because as soon as I stuck him his buddy was all over me. Lucky he wasn't that big of a guy. So I kept pounding on the original guy while the bouncers pulled the smaller guy off my back. So after the bouncer pulls the guy off of my back another bouncer tackles me to the ground. I fall face first to the floor because he has my arms wrapped up. A piece of glass the was on the floor slices my nose open. I get up and my nose is dripping blood. The bouncers drag the other guy up off the floor and he starts screaming and yelling like a nut. "I'm gonna kill you all". "I the champion." I just laugh as I walk out the door. I see the bouncer slam him up against the wall and out the back door. So I spent the rest of the night in the emergency room getting 3 stitches and a tetnis |

6 foot 2", 200 lbs...I went through the karate thing when I was younger and one of the things I learned is that it's not worth it.
I can get baited into yelling (it's happened a couple times), but when it comes to the fisticuffs, I run like a little girl. I've got too much to lose, and the ones who bait you usually don't have much to lose at all. We just had a senior vice president at Wells Fargo in Sacramento area get himself killed after a basketball game. He was drunk, stoned, and got two other guys to pull over on a road to go at it. One punch, and two days later, he was dead.

Damn Chris! I will have to be nicer to you from now on!!
Of course, I would have chosen Thai food over Kung Pao, but that's just me ![]() I haven't been in a fight for years, everyone is bigger than I am so I only fight when pushed to that limit of snapping and going psycho until someone goes down........so far so good. MUCH rather avoid it completely though. You did the right thing. Plus, drunks are easy prey. Druggies on the other hand can be tough. Remember Mr. King? -Chris

I would not have tangled with that guy. No sense, no feeling.
I mentioned this elsewhere but here it goes. Co worker (Jon) goes to bar with very hot girlfriend and other coworkers. Drunk in bar decides he is in love. Drunk keeps running mouth for hours in bar Jon and g/f ignore. Drunk leaves bar. Jon leaves bar about 20 minute later with g/f and other friends. As they walk up to his car a pickup truck pulls across parking lot rolls down drivers window and the drunk from in the bar tells Jons g/f he wants to f*ck her. John calmly walks around car and tells the guy to drive away. Guy starts to open his door to get out of his truck. Jon punches him in the side of the face, breaking his eye socket, cheek bone and causing nerve damage. Jon trains and fights in the UFC. Drunk calls cops as Jon calmly get in his car and leaves. Cops pull Jon over down road arrest him. Long story short, State Attorney gets hold of it and will not let it go. Jon gets 3 years probation. Just walk away. In this day and age no one owns up to their mistakes. Its not worth defending yourself, better to flee than fight.

The closest I've ever come to getting into a fight was 10+ years ago coming out of a bar called The Goose in Bellevue, WA. I was there with two friends, shooting darts. We'd been there about an hour when three younger, and obviously drunk guys came in and starting shooting darts a couple of boards away.
We went to leave about a half hour later...never said anything to these three guys, never even looked their way. I went out the door first, then my two buddies. As soon as we're outside the three young guys come out the door and start swinging. I'm halfway across the parking lot and the bigger of the three makes his way over...I think he may have under-estimated my size (6'7" and ~250#, back then) because once he got close enough to size me up he stopped cold. Friend #1 was holding his own so on to friend #2's aid I went, who was getting hit hard. Grabbed the guy by the neck and tossed him down. Friend #1's opponent just sort of gave up after that. I never threw a punch so I guess it wasn't really a fight, for me at least. ![]()

sounds like dude was sampling his own goods.
fighting? i had my ace kicked (imagine that??) enough times that i can pretty much tell when its go time. it's all in your eyes. i can tell if someone is going to stay or go just by looking into their eyes. eye of the tiger my friends call it. its what you decide to do after reading the eyes that will determine how the story ends. always lead with your left.

Being one who's mouth is usually in third gear while common sense is still in first I've come close more than I'd really like. But truth be told it's been a long time since I've had to pummel any body's fist with my very pretty face. I've managed to either benefit from the aggressors sense of pity or talk my way out of anything ugly. My latest encounter was saved when I told some very large idiot that I'd be happy to get stupid over it but one thing for sure was one of us was going to spend the night in the hospital and one of us would spend the night in jail. He let me know I'd be the one in the hospital. So I then pointed out that would make him the one in jail. I made a hasty retreat while he was thinking of a clever comeback.

This is funny thread.
Well, I had a few quick brawls, but the person I hit never got back up. they just dropped after one hit. This was back in the Philippines were I grew up where anything goes. Here in the USA, no thanks, no fights, a few close calls, too many lawyers to sue you. Better to walk away than walk into jail. Stay calm , have fun in life. |

I live in the town I went to college in. The fall after I graduated from college, I had the guys back down. (About 5 years ago.) We hit all of the old hot spots. After the bars close, we go and stand in line at a hotdog stand. As we're in line (about 50-75 people long), a guy walks right past everyone and to the front of the line. He gets his hotdog and walks back. I recognize the guy, I used to work with him at a Sbarro in college. I say: "Hey, Simon." as he walks past.
He turns to me and says: "Who the f**k are you?" I say, "I used to be your manager at Sbarro. How's it going?" I notice that he's wearing a staff T-shirt for one of the bars...he's a bouncer. Further, he's wearing some frat ring. He's a bouncer frat boy. Not at all the guy I remember. He says: "You know what, you don't even deserve to talk to me. Kiss my a**." My response? "Wow, it must be nice to s**t gold..." At the time I was 6'1" and a lean, muscular 200 lbs. This guy was on the order of 5'8" and maybe 160 lbs. Further, I had five college friends with me, and I was the small guy in the group. At this point, this guy loses it, threatening to kill me. I simply stand there and taunt him. (It was fun.) I wasn't going to swing first either. Some old guy ends up walking up to him and pushing him backwards down the street as he yells at me. It was hilarious! Maybe I was a little pigheaded, but my biggest pet peeve is grossly overinflated egos. I had no plans of hitting the guy, but I wasn't going to back down, either.

yeah, but if the bartender admits to serving someone he thought might be drunk, the bar itself could be in trouble. Heck, if a bartender had seen it all go down while dumping the trash and went out to help the guy pick himself off the ground, the bar could be in trouble.
When I was 16 i worked at my parents' restaurant/resort. Part of my duties were to help boats / jetskis dock and fill up with gas. I remember one time a boat that was loaded way over any reasonable limit started sinking 10 feet away from where I was standing. My dad happened to see it and he ran out to tell me that I couldn't help them. Now, the water is only 5-6 feet deep and they were maybe 30 feet from shore. If they would have been in danger of drowning, we probably would have helped. But we weren't allowed to jump in to help unless there was clear danger, so we had to just stand and watch their boat sink. Man, they thought we were asshøles.

Last time I got in a fight was 4 years ago.
I was out somewhere with my sister (16 at the time) Some idiot walked up to her and grabbed her ass. I grabbed his hand, and asked him exactly what the f*** he was doing?, at which point he swung at me and missed, I then punched him in the face as hard as I could, bruising my knuckle. He staggered for a bit and ran away. still trying to figure out exactly WHY he thought it would be a good idea to grab some teenage girls ass when there's a large 200lb man next to her... |
