Revenge of the Sith? Too much for a 7 year old? Let the Pelican OT Board decide!

6.5 year old.

Wife says yes, I say no.

Given that our son has seen the original Star Wars and the second one. No problem. IMO those kinds of movies are not scary to him because they are obviously fake - spaceships, etc. When an arm gets cut off, it's by a light saber, not something that is likely to happen in the real world. I ask him if it's scary, and he says "they're just actors."

My wife says that she has heard that Sith is "the darkest" of the Star Wars movies and not for kids.

I said the Pelican Board knows all.

So what's the answer?

I see no problems with a 7 year old seeing it - it is "darK" but really in the emotional sense.

Nothing gory or visually shocking

By modern standards Mad Max is kind of tame. When I saw that movie when I was about 7 it freaked me out.

(Spoiler Alert...)

What about the seen with Anakin on fire? I don't think some kids could cope with that.

I'll second that - I'm against for good measure. What's he going to loose by not seeing it at seven?

I would not necessarily be against it.

As much as I was freaked out by it I was also very entertained by mad max when I was a kid. Sometimes being seriously impacted via cinema is a good thing.

I guess it all depends on how mature your child is and if you want to introduce him to the idea that bad $hit happens early via science fiction.

I was really weirded out by watching deliverance when I was pretty young but I think that young people don't need to be insulated from everything that may shock or upset them.

Just look at how gruesome grimm's fairy tales were in attempting to entertain and teach our children.

Every kid is different. When my son was 7, his grandfather took him to Star Trek: The Wrath of Kahn. The scene with the creature in the ear freaked him out.

I thought the movie was pretty good, probably the best of the three, but odds are a 7 year old will still fall asleep before the final scenes. I didn't think they were that bad; no worse than many TV shows these days.

George Lucas said that this movie was not for those under the age of 13... That said, I was amazed at how many young kids were really at the theatre.

**** Spoilers ****

Anakin being burned up could be somewhat confusing to the children, as this is the 'hero' of the movies they've been watching. But really, was that any worse than anything they see on standard TV these days?

The only scene I can think of that could be considered somewhat gory is the demise of General Grievous. But unless you really think about, it doesn't appear that bad. What I'm talking about is his eyes basically exploding out of his skull. But unless you remember he actually had eyes, then that scene was just simply more special effects, as it just showed what appeared as flames or plasma bursting from his eye sockets.

We didn't take my 10 year old daughter, but we would of if she weren't spending the evening with her Aunt and Grandmother. And I didn't really see anything that she couldn't of handled.

I guess I'm just a bit conservative.

If it were just boobs I'd have voted yes.

The only think i can think of that would be upsetting is the scene where Anakin's on fire and when he kills a bunch of Jedi children (implied, not actually seen)

I think the average child will have a difficult time picking up on the dark nature of the film
