I've posted this before and as a news junkie who watches both Fox and CNN, I can honestly say Fox News is slanted. They do it by context. Here's an excellent example from a previous post back in March. No camera tricks and you'll have to trust me that my descriptions are accurate.
Fox reported about the Gonzales hearing that it was a jovial affair, "a love fest at times with even democrats embracing him, one calling him "ol' buddy". That was the entire story with a few clips of softball questions. Same story on CNN revealed contentious questioning at times, even from Republicans. It showed one Republican talking about just the idea of looking to get around international laws against torture means you've lost the moral high ground. But here's the topper! Remember Democrats calling him "ol buddy" in the Fox report? We'll, Joe Biden was questioning him on whether he thinks the President is, at times, beyond international law in regards to ordering torture. Gonzales answers that it's a hypothetical question and that Bush didn't order the torture at Abu Graib and goes on to say that he can't say whether or not he thinks the President can order torture because it may effect the outcome of a future case. What is Biden's response? Biden says his opinion now has absolutely no bearing on a future case, that it's "malarkey" and says "we're looking for a straight answer here, ol buddy" Having an independent media source be an apologist for the government is the first step in slippery slope toward Fascism. Not saying that's going to happen in the US, but as a media source, Fox helps shape public opinion. Did Fox lie in their reporting? No, he really was called "ol buddy" by a Democrat. Is that really what happened? No. I watch both to get both sides. This happens a lot. IT'S CALLED CONTEXT. And just why did (and probably still does) a majority of Americans believe that Saddam Hussein was directly linked to Sept. 11? How did that happen? The Gonzales thing is only one well-documented example. Now I know why so many people are confused in this country. They are being lied to on a daily basis and would never even know it. Poor souls.

I hesitate to weigh into this particular little debate, but I would raise the point that if you want a fulsome understanding of the issues, you are not likely to ever get it from a television programme which works in sound bites, sensationalistic wording and visual appeal....
If you really want to understand an issue, why not read about it in a few places (to eliminate as much editorial bias as possible). Television is for the most part mental pollution.... Grab a copy of the Economist and READ..... Dennis PS - I think the guy was an idiot, but the interviewers did not let the guy hang himself (if he even had the mental rope to do so), rather they seemed to think that berating the moron was a better means to get their point across....

here's something interesting. Fox News and it's news-type show personnel are very fond of saying "and here's a positive story about Iraq that you won't see on any other news show" and "we report more positive news about how the military is making a positive impact on Iraq than any other network" etc. It's pervasive. now I haven't done a quantititative analysis, but CNN definitely reports more of these types of stories than Fox does. By a lot too.

Well, this is the THIRD time I'm clarifying my point. I HAVE watched some of these shows, including Hannity, I don't make a habit of it. What do you guys want? Do you want me to lie and say I haven't watched Hannity or something? Would that make you guys feel better? And get over the "attacking" crap, will ya? ![]() Last edited by cool_chick; 06-06-2005 at 07:11 PM.. |

Supe, my apologies. Obviously my sarcasm filter is a little buggy today.

![]() ![]() ![]() I avoid H&C because it is infotainment (and obnoxious), and it's not balanced. Fox news shows like Special Report with Brit Hume are right leaning too, IMHO. That's what makes them so refreshing, and it's harmless, as long as you don't get all your news from that one source. Watch News Hour to balance it out. My favorite thing about Fox, though, is that it sends you guys (gals) into absolute conniption fits of pompous outrage, causing you basically to claim that Fox is mindwashing uninformed, stupid voters, and costing your obviously intellectually superior candidates elections. Rock on!

2. All I said was Hannity is highly unprofessional and Fox is not fair or balanced 3. Shaun also raised some very good points, maybe you should read them and do some thinking.... 4. Who said anything about Dem candidates being "intellectually superior" though you may be on to something here... |

Look, I wasn't attacking you, nor am I now. I was merely pointing out the hypocracy of your statements. Poking holes in them. Exposing the flaws in your reasoning. I'm sure you'd return the favor if I had done the same thing.
![]() Maybe if you wrote it 100 times, like we used to have to do for punishment in elementary school. Remember "writing sentences?" 1. Well to be honest, I personally don't watch any of those shows. I'm not really interested in someone else's opinion. 2. Well to be honest, I personally don't watch any of those shows. I'm not really interested in someone else's opinion. 3.
