Hats off to you! If I ever move to NC you have my business. It takes more stones to post this than it does to tell Andy to f himself. You took the hard high road, not the easy low road. You have earned my respect. Regards, Scott

I agree......Lesson learned here is to make sure your dealership has a title on any vehicle prior to the sale. You can bump the asking price up a smidgen for the vehicle to cover all of the leg work required by your dealership to bring the car to sale for your customer.
I'd take the easy route and title the vehicle in a more lienient state. Once that's done transfer that title to Andy and let him turn it over to his DMV so they can issue a NC title. Just a thought. I'm impressed with your post to Andy. It shows that your are genuinely concerned. I think one of the biggest problems for corporations and businesses is not realizing the power of the internet and how it can affect them. I worked for a company that had employees spread out across the entire nation. They thought we had no way of communicating to resolve problems and to keep their policies in check. They were violating numerous state and federal laws. We used the net to hammer them with the legal system. I think it's more important now than it ever has been to give your customer's 100%. Anything less is asking for trouble nowdays. Last edited by Thunder Punk; 06-22-2005 at 07:01 AM.. |

After threatening to hold your title hostage I would require Robert to refund you in full before you release the car.
If he was in any way responsible for the damage to your car and the phone call I would nail him to the wall. While it takes stones to owe up to a mistake it takes integrity to do the job right the first time. Integrity is more important than stones in my book.

Agree with you Dr O., except that it shouldn't take stones to own up to a mistake. In a gray area, maybe, but this ain't a gray area. Damage is done.

Your right it didn't take stones - He was all but forced to owe up to his mistakes and lack of intergrity.
The web is a wonderful tool.

Based on the facts as presented here and my personal knowledge of Robert, there was no lack of integrity in the initial deal made. Perhaps the comments made in the first response were a bit over the top, but to say Robert lacks integrity is a bit of a stretch. There were however, some best intentions mixed with an admitted lack of prior knowledge about the difficulties of obtaining an NC title. He has made an apology and retraction for comments he made 'in the heat of the moment'. He's made a public commitment to making the buyer whole and offered multiple options for doing so, including picking up and returning the car at his expense.
What else can he do? Looks to me like someone trying their best to make chicken salad out of chicken *****. If you met Rob in person, you'd see how committed he is to dealing squarely with people and selling good quality parts to the Porsche community. There are plenty of other places out there - and we've discussed them to death on Pelican - that are screwing people every day and not thinking twice about doing it. dC is not - NOT - one of those outfits. Don't let this thread and all the monday-morning-quarterbacking taint your perceptions.

what many of you here have overlooked is that Rob clearly stated with enough time he could provide a NC title..
for those of you who have not had to deal with this type of situation in NC I can tell you it's HELL to get ANYTHING done title wise on most older vehicles... just getting an answer on whether they will give you a title can take 6 WEEKS OR MORE!! after an initial filing and refusal you start all over again using another form, and so on until you exhaust all possibilities we have been trying to get a title for a CT vehicle for ALMOST A YEAR!!! I have dealt with Rob MANY times and find him to be one of the more HONEST AND TRUSTWORTHY vendors around, I even took an afternoon and went to his place to meet and introduce myself and see his operation... it is professional and TOP NOTCH if I had seen this earlier I would have suggested Andy file for a title with the CT paperwork in VA, a MUCH easier task than here in NC.. I have great confidence that Rob will remedy this situation and this will be forgotten in time, those of you who have lambasted Rob without ALL THE FACTS should be ashamed of yourselves |

Mr. Zampardi,
Thank you for the kind words. However, I am afraid that I cannot accept your apology as I believe that you don't owe me any and neither do I owe you. This is strictly business. I believe that, together, you and I can become part of the solution rather than part of the problem. I would welcome any suggestion on how to make this problem work to our mutual advantage. We can stay in contact through two channels, 1) by U.S postal and certified mails (you have my full address, cell phone number, and other contact information on file) and 2) through emails (I trust that you have that information as well). However, I would much prefer emails as it is fast, cost effective, and I can keep a complete documentation of the process. I must warn you, because of this experience and many many valuable advices from this thread (that is what I was after from the begining, BTW), I'll be firmer than before. However, if we work towards a common goal, and that is to get the clear title before the litigation date, we'll both be winners. Thanks again for your help Mr. Zampardi. Regards, Andy |

I'm nobody here but I'm a Rennlist member in good standing under the same name.
Rob Z is honest and reliable as far as I have known of him and his dealings over the past several years. I am just a Porsche fanatic, I have nothing to do with DC Automotive. However I can vouch that he and his business are respected over at Rennlist. I see the original auction made clear that time would be needed. I think 4 months is too long, but we all make mistakes. What I see here is Rob is making it good. Heinrich |

Heinrich,
If you get the chance read this entire thread and then tell me what a great guy Mr. Zampardi is. It seems to me that his politeness is born out of necessity. After some of the things said it really is his only choice. |

Bought some items recently, one was damaged. He sent out a replacement the next day. He's OK in my book and close to where I live.

.... I don't have that many hours in a day!! Look, I don't say he is or is not a great guy. I just say, in years he has never once had this kind of occurrence in the other forum. Check out your Panorama too, his ad has been in there for years. What I'm trying to say is yes, I hear you ... but in light of everything I know about him, this is not his usual way of doing business and more importantly, yes maybe he and the plaintiff here have got into it with each other, but bottom line is, he has neve NEVER been even alleged to be a crook. He may be wrong, but that doesn't make him a crook. All I'm saying. I know him to be honest. He may well be an honest jerk (or not a jerk) but honest he for sure is. All the best guys, and btw ... way to support each other. I love it. Heinrich |

Andrew and fellow p-philes:
I responded with an 'apology' to those who had to endure my initial emotional response. I am not one to ponder words, i tend to think on my feet; with varying success. We/I am not used to both a public outing and a litigation threat; i took it way to personally, and responded offensively as a defense. I forgot some golden words i once heard: (not exact but you get the idea) 'The reputation of a company is defined by the actions and words of the employees' I lost sight of that and other things; i am firmly on the right path now. Now down to biz: Since you made it a public issue, i will list the solutions as i see them here: 1, We buy back the car, full refund plus storage costs (TBD). 2, We pick up the car at your convenience next week, or this sunday if possible; have it inspected by nc dmv on Tuesday/Wednesday, and back to you by the end of the week. 3, Pass the vehicle thru another state to get title; i have a valid CT bill of sale; although this is the least effort/costly it is my least favored option as i have no control over the process. If you have another solution i would be glad to read about it. I will upload a jpg of the document dmv issued me stating the requirement of inspection. Regards, Robert (yearing to get out of the hole i dug)
