another stupid SUV driver....

Why, oh lord, am I the one that always has to face the brunt of these complete wastes of human flesh. I'm on way home from the new girl's house. She lives in Hollywood. it's around 10PM, I decide to take Sunset all the way back to the 405 then to the 101 and home. For me, there is a cathartic moment that comes from opening the windows and sunroof, clearing the sunset strip, and the long sweeping curves of Sunset Blvd. all the way back to the 405. This was to be one fo those nights. stereo off, motor loud, cool wind in my face.

Except it wasnt. Lo and behold, what lies in front of me, a Ford Expedition taking up BOTH lanes of Sunset and going about 30MPH. I come up beind her (and it was very clearly a woman as the dome lights were on and she was on the phone) I follow her for a mile or so, hoping she might understand that she was obstructing traffic (and destroying my catharsis for the evening. No such luck, still chatting it up on the phone, oblivious to the fact that she's driving a 6000 lb consumerist s***wagon on a road that can very easily kill you if you arent paying attention.

I flash my high beams, I then honk my horn to get her attention, still nothing. still chatting on the phone, swerving between both lanes. I figure," **** it" I've had enough of this, I see my opening.. I gun it, swing around her at which point she finally sees Im behind her and decides to step on her brakes...

Anyone deal with this on almost a daily basis?

Are you sure you weren't getting in the middle of a slow-speed chase? Were there helicopters?

From the woman's perspective...

Woman: "I've got one behind me right now. He's in a Porsche, so he must be loaded."

Woman's Attorney: "Keep him behind you. When you have the opportunity, brake hard so he rear-end's you."

Wow, that sucks. I have so many SUV rants right now. One of the worst was when a Ford Explorer pulled out onto the street and merged over in my lane! How hard is it to see a bright red Porsche!?! I swear, this lady was about 1 inch from hitting my fenders before she noticed that I was in that lane. What's even more annoying is that in my town, everyone is rich....so that means bigger is better, so every 2nd car I see is either a SUV or minivan. Come on people, BUY WAGONS, then at least we can see around you! This is what I don't understand: S.U.V = Sport Utility Vehicle, NOT pick-your-kids-up from school/do groceries with. Vash, if you've been in Moraga, you know exactly what I mean. Minivans are a different story here. There are just so many of them that you get tired of looking at them and want to scream to the driver "get a life".

Well gee Matt, isn't that the point of owning a SUV... so that you have such a big overpowering machine that you don't have to signal or look when making lane changes?

Unfortunately, there are some people think that way and do that. There are some people who should not be owning SUVs.

Heck, I almost got ran off the road by a minivan this weekend. Double left turn lane, I was on the right, and the driver decided halfway through the turn that he'd rather have my lane. He would have hit me in the driver's side front fender had I not swerved.

Funny thing was, the guy was coming from the same wedding as I and going to the same reception. We were essentially leading the pack of cares between venues.

It took a good deal of will power not to confront the jerk at the reception. A few of the other guests did make a few comments to me though. (Mostly along the lines of "Wow, nice driving" or "You're lucky you were driving that thing and could get out of the way in time".) I'm convinced that had I had my F150 instead, I wouldn't have been able to swerve in time due to the slower steering response.

How do you know you didn't interrupt this lady's cathartic moment? Windows up, A/C crankin', Kenny G in the CD/DVD player, cell phone in one hand, vibrator in other hand, steering with her left foot, because the toenails on her right foot still have wet nail polish.

Hate to say it, but it sounds like someone that clueless would act the same no matter what she was driving.

Her (third) husband or boyfriend probably bought her the truck so she might actualyl come home alive.

Yes, they're big, noisy, polluting, and gas hogs. Blame the driver, not the machine.

A guy next to me in his new Acura TL was checking out his onboard GPS when to his left the green arrow lane started moving. He jumped on the gas and nearly hit the oncomming green arrow car.

Dude in a new Volvo blew through the red light on San Marcos Blvd at ~ 40 mph. Since I started riding a street bike that struck a nerve.

Modified Honda's race through traffic and on road shoulders cutting off folks and endangering especially those merging into traffic.

Grandma and Grampa can barely see 20/50 these days and after a early dinner and glass of wine struggle to make it home in their Buick.

Dude in the bagged Escalade with 24" spinners, limo tint, and 2K watts of bass is rollin down main street and he can't see or hear shyte.

Jose Cuervo is driving home after a case or two of bud to get lunch ready for his daughter's baptism when he swerves off the road and kills a landscaper who is affixing a ladder to his truck.

Dude with the sporty BMW is taking the long way home one night. He lowers the windows and steps on the gas taking in the powerful engine sound as he sweeps down the road. Confronted with a slow moving SUV he grows impatient, honks, then see's an opening and goes for it. At the same instant Grandma and Grampa merge into the lane...

When will the madness stop

I followed a guy onto Mulholland drive a couple of weeks ago, around 11AM in broad daylight, he in his Z3 with the top down, talking on his cellphone, and watched, stunned as he plowed directly across the road, putting all 4 wheels in the oncoming lane, causing three cars to hastily drive into the dirt, then swerved back and continued on. he was going all of 25-30 MPH.

He was looking straight ahead, but was so involved in the conversation, he apparently became disoriented??? Damnedest thing I've seen in the 'good part of town.'

You really can become so engrossed in a conversation that you tune out even things directly in front of you.

Yesterday comming home for work I decided to stop at the 7-11 and do my weekly grocery shopping. I approached an intersection where the light was red. On my left was a white mustang with two very large(and in charge) Spanish chicks. Both were on cell phones and I could hear thier radio over mine with my windows up and the a/c going. Directly behind them was a fully decked out Black and White LAPD cruiser. Not wanting to listen to thier radio I let my truck roll up a couple feet, three or so at the most, into the cross walk but not fully into the intersection. This cow must have thought the light turned green and took off, full red signal with the cop right behind her. The look on the cops face as he passed me was priceless. Total disbelief. He had her lit up and pulling over as I passed them about mid way down the block.
I finished my shopping and as I drove back down the block the cop (joined by two more by now) had both girls out of the car and against the wall, every door on the mustang was open as was the trunk.
I gave a polite honk as I rolled past but no one waved back.
