Whenever I don't see any Porsches on the road for extended periods of time, I look in the rear view mirror and wave at myself.

Even though I said 'Matt Out', those last three comments were more on topic than most of what I've read. Lol.

note to self - stop reading thread lest you be drawn into their endlessly circular arguements-

Edit. Not fat or old either. Or rich. I can only hope.

i'm struck by what a generally 'so nice' thread this is..so necessary, too. lots of irritation being openly expressed at one another, based solely on our choice of porsche. clearly it has done an excellent job of delineating those of us who generally 'enjoy geeting along' with those who are simply *******s..both sides know to which group we belong and have unapologetically spoken our mind to that affect. to some, offending people anonymously is always good fun, some of us take some measure of offense to it. i doubt anyone here would actually come to blows over any of these comments, but i think overall it's been a black eye to the community to see it played out so publicly on our forum. if we needed a reality check to remind ourselves of our basic 'humanity' and the fact that our subtle intolerances are not simply 'tongue and cheek', but often reflect our true attitudes were we all in the 'same room together'..one needs look no further than this thread. being the idealist that i am about people, i lose an iq point every time i read an update of this thread only to catch the latest anonymous insult. don't get me wrong..there's been plenty of hilarious banter on the board over the years, but this one borders on having that edge that really wants to raise a nose up on each other. i personally don't care for that, but it's my right to say so.
that's the most sense i've read in the whole thread (not that i read the WHOLE LOT!). i don't much care for the topic (being polite) but you're right this forum has a unique community spirit. i just get (sometimes) irritated when threads get removed that have far more tech content.

Saw an early 911 - possibly a 2.4, maybe a 2.7 (chrome around the windshield) on the way to work today. I waved. Without hesitation, he waved back.

My sense of belonging in the Porsche community has been restored. (Most of you may not know this, but I suffer from low self esteem. Spent nights up wondering, "Am I a really a Porsche owner or not?!?" )

Yesterday, while driving my 1970 911E, I saw a silver Carrera GT and just to see what would happen, I waved to him. He didn't wave, but gave me this look: 30 minutes later, I got the same response from an old guy in a 356 Speedster. I guess my lowly 911 just isn't up to snuff.

11 - Carrera GT and 911 GT2 Turbo owners get the "We're not worthy!" worship bowing motion.

Hehe-I was wondering if any mid-year guys were going to chime in. And then I read further....Whoa! It would appear we ARE a self defensive group.

I like the "ten rules" as is. I think it's very funny and, for the most part, true. (Glenn, you had me nailed on the 914 and 944 look-very funny.) You gotta admit; most people do look at the mid-years with pity or derision. Just because we mid-year owners know better doesn't mean everyone else does.

Thanks Sebring. I did not intend to create this uproar. Just had
a few extra minutes of time at the office and this seemed like a better use of it than masturbation (although that would have only taken a minute or two).

It would appear that the Pelican Parts 911 Technical Forum has answered every question in the entirety of Porschedom. So if you need help go to the archives.

This is what is left. Morons from other boards coming over to troll for insults. The intelligent "other model" Porsche owners have better things to do. They are emotionally content having bigger penises.
Wayne should have better things to do with his bandwidth than waste it like this.

Glen, your original post was funny. Anyone who has followed the follies of mid-year 911s got the joke and should not have been offended.

And for those idiots that haven't lived long enough to understand it, there just happens to be a segment of human psychosis that puts on an aire of snootiness, intensional or not. If you own a Ferrari you MUST look down on Porsche owners who MUST be looking down on Corvette owners who MUST be .... an on and on. All the whining in the world isn't gonna change a thing. It just makes YOU look stupid.

My son saw a TV segment on Monster trucks and asked if we could do that to the Porsche. I told him that if we did, Daddy would be allowed to use his computer to talk to other Porsche owners becuase they would mock us and maybe be mean to us.

His answer, "thats OK Dad, we can just roll over them if they are mean to us!".

I think the sound of a 911 crunching under the wheels would sound like crunching of the wolf spider my wife stomped on with bare feet!

TROLL for insults.....sorry, but there were specific insults directed at specific models, no trolling was required. C'mon,I have a gud sense of humor but some of that was mean spirited.

As to a waste of bandwidth....let's dig up the "I coulda had a V8 thread" again.....

1) "A special note about women in Porsche's: It is probably their boyfriend's, or they are a dyke, or they are stuck up and won't wave back anyway"

Bite me. A very good friend is on her 3rd Porsche, which happens to be a Boxster (the other 2 were 914s) she was actually very hesitant to join the boards (Pelican & Rennlist) as well as PCA in fear that she wouldn't be taken seriously or the other members/subscribers were a bunch of middle-aged jerks - not exactly disproving that with this stupid wave rules.

2) "you 2.7 guys are a militant bunch"

You bet - gotta stick together... from the sound of it, sometimes, you would think we own different makes of vehicle. Frankly, I've seen more rat-bag SCs running around than I have thrashed middies. There may be something said about the SCs lasting longer, but it says nothing of the "pride in your ride"

3) If you like what you see: wave... if you don't: forget it. We're supposed to be a bunch of enthusiasts here, but I see SOOO much clique-ish behavior among model years it's crazy.

I paid much less for my 911 than a guy buying a 997 - does that mean he likes his car more? Or that he's a better enthusiast?
We need to get over ourselves.

Maybe we need to get some of the comraderie that Jeeps share (there used to be a LOT of dissention among models in that community) now it generally boils down to a simple statement: "It's a Jeep Thing - you wouldn't understand."

We can adopt the premise:
"It's a Porsche Thing: Sie verstehen nicht"

-Cheers

Great to meet you today, Glenn. Hope you like the shirts. Lotta nice cars there today (Chicago PCA picnic)
On the way home, waved to a 914, he waved back.
Waved to a Boxster, he looked at me like I was nuts.
Anywhatever, nice to meet you, and nice to see you Larry and Kermit.

A special note about women in Porsche's: It is probably their boyfriend's, or they are a dyke, or they are stuck up and won't wave back anyway, or they will think you are hitting on them and reject you (unless you look like Lorenzo Llamas or other movie star), so NEVER wave to a woman in a Porsche unless she is your sister, mom, coworker, concubine, paramour, or neighbor.
Give me a break. I own my car, I am not a dyke, I am not stuck up and I do wave back without thinking that anybody is hitting on me. Actually, I would appreciate the wave and wave back as much as I do when I ride my bike. Don't be too quick to stereotype women.

Other than that, I though the rest was fun.
