Any Compaq Techs out there?

Can anyone direct me in the right direction on where I find out how to access the CMOS battery in a Compaq Presario 1800!!! I have taken out every GD screw in this thing and the battery is still buried, laughing at me. Any suggestions?

Being a compaq tech is like sleeping with a fat girl... you do it, but you're not proud of it.

Is this a laptop? Why do you need to get to the battery?

I had a Compaq Presario desktop a few years ago.

IIRC, the battery was soldered to the motherboard. Also, i think some company made aftermarket batteries for them that were relatively easy to install.

I am in the midst of trouble shooting my last options of salvaging this laptop. Due to some bizzar video problems, I have repalced the video cable and LCD converter to no avail. My last ditch effort is the CMOS battery.

Granted it should have been my first plan of attack, I am not that rational. If the car is out of gas, rebuild the engine and trouble shoot from there.

there was a site I found a while back, that had the assembly manual for my particular model that was a god send when I replaced my hd and keyboard. Of course, my HP desktop with that link crashed and I had not backed a GD thing up.

Only thing the cmos battery does is let the computer remember the time/date and what kind of harddrives/cd drives/etc are attached while power is off. if it won't boot at all you have other issues

I am hoping that there are some settings that are being corrupted or mis-defaulting due to the bios being defaulted with the dead cmos batt. Like I said, this is my last ditch effort. Otherwise I am parting out a Compaq laptop.
