RNC lies and gets away with it.

As happily and thoughtlessly cut and pasted here by the uncritical, the RNC anti-Wilson talking points have driven discussion for the past week (soon to be upstaged by discussions of Roberts...).

In the RNC e-mail in the Rove slime wars last week, there were four big lies at the heart of the RNC positions. Yet nobody challenged the lies (repeated by Ken Mehlman) on any of the shows I listened to.

Lie #1: Wilson siad Cheney sent him to Niger.

(Wilson never said that.)

Lie #2: Wilson said he had definitive proof Saddam wasn’t trying to buy uranium from Niger.

(Wilson never said that, although there’s still no evidence Saddam was doing so.)

Lie #3: Rove never said her (Plame’s) name, so he did nothing wrong.

(The *identity* of a CIA operative isn’t just that person’s name, but a specific description, i.e., “Joe Wilson’s wife” or "Laura' Bush's husband." It might skirt illegality by a whisker, but it’s unethical in the extreme.)

Lie #4: Rove claimed he ‘didn’t even know her name.’

(Wrong. If he didn’t know long before that, he was told her name by Novak three days before his conversation with Cooper.)

Fox, for one, just repeated RNC talking points uncriticaly in their “news.” But that’s hardly a surprise. After all, the Chairman, CEO and President of Fox News, Roger Ailes, held these three jobs before: 1967-68 media adviser to Richard M. Nixon Presidential Campaign. 1984 consultant to Ronald Reagan; 1988 George H. W. Bush's Presidential campaign. To say Fox News is the propaganda arm of the RNC isn't much of an exaggeration.

You silly fool, of course not! Most postings like the above are done by people who feel that Teddy walks on water (well he did, near a bridge called Chappiquiddick) and John "eveyone in Viet Nam was a baby killer except me" Kerry need to waltz into the White House and steal what Slick Willy and his wife did not get on their way out the last time.

Teddy did call the cops, of course 6 hours after Mary Jo Kopechne drowned in his car while he was home getting sober, but that has been swept under the rug for all these years and he is a fine upstanding murderer... legislator... drunk... liar... oh well, his last name is Kennedy so its all a moot point.

Some of the Democrats just forget history, until we remind them...

I realize lies are indefensible, but these are unusually weak retorts.

and ahh mr aska why would you dig mary jo up after all these years? would citing clinton's blow job from that ho in the blue dress be more "90's", as opposed to your "60's" reference?

plus, that particular kennedy was never lying from the oval office.

Actually, no. The media is so well managed by the right that any equivalent commentary from the DNC would be quashed.

I'll be happy if you can provide me an example, though -- I mean without going back too many administrations...

This is a bit off this topic but I have to ask. If Rove was "the" source why is Meridith still in jail since the source has been revealed. Why would she still hold out to protect Rove?

"I did not have sex with that woman." Stated under oath to a Grand Jury by a sitting President of the United States.

"It depends on what 'is' is." O.k., not a lie in and of itself, but a pretty severe bending of the common understanding of our language to cover up missdeeds.

The smartest woman in the world finding most, not all, of the Foster files removed from his office, by her, on the day of his death, under her stairs years later.

"I didn't know I was stuffing classified documents in my socks and shorts. Oops."

"I never used the phone in the Vice President's office for private campaign fundraising calls."

"I invented the internet."

"I never threw my medals over that fence."

"CBS News has uncovered evaluations of our President written by his former commanding officer."

Wow; this is easy. And fun. Help me out here guys; I didn't even break a sweat with this low hanging fruit.

Is that the best you can do? A good chunk of that is purely Urban Legend (ie the 'invented the internet' gag)

This site catalogs GWB's lies with references, contexts and footnotes.

None of these were from the DNC.

And I'm sure you know, the 'invented the Internet' quote was from Dick Armey or Tom Delay, misquoting Al Gore, who had a lot to do with the development of the high speed internet.

You're referring to Miller? Could be a matter of principle.

Why don't we just repeat the mantra "They are all slime be they Republican or Democrat" and move on?

Yea, they were stand up guys, not like their alky murdering brother. He has outlived his usefulness by several decades.

Sat that one out? Wonder how many others did that that nobody mentions. Were you wearing a uniform then?? I was and did not go to 'Nam but was still on the short list to go. Still bristle when I remember forking Kerry returning from 'Nam and saying that all of us were baby killers. Very good reason why he was not elected.

Would not agree that they are ALL slime but most of them are slick to the touch. Wish we had term limits of one or two terms, then your out. As well they need to live with the retirement that we normal peons do, not the "life on the fat of the land" one that the current legislators do...

Miller, thats right. That is possible that she is sitting in a crappy jail cell on principal. It is possible that there is someone else who may have actuly leaked the name and actuly broke the law too, but we are not privy to the investigation info yet.

Yeah I know; pretty weak effort. Some are just too much fun to ignore, urban legend or not. I noticed how easily you brushed off the ones that are easily verified as true. I guess if one or two can be cast asside as urban legends, the rest just go right out the window with them. I have always admired that trait in Liberals; ignore inconvenient facts or events and divert the conversation. Bubba taught you all well. I guess he was a better leader than I gave him credit for.

None were from the DNC, but all were from Democrats. You got me on a technicality. Is that why they call you techwheenie? And rats, once again I failed to follow the rules so these lies don't count. It's like they never even happened; brushed off by the liberals who either ignored or justified them on the first go-around. It must be nice to live in a reality of your own choosing; ignoring things you don't like and playing up, or making up, ones that you do.

I didn't interpret tech's comment as the media being right, I took it that they are well managed by the right - ie, bossed around.

Given the undoubted skill of Bush and his boys at working the media, I reckon he's right.

I just gotta love the logic behind this one. It surfaces time and time again. Dubya is too stupid to tie his own shoes in the morning on the one hand, but on the other he is masterminding the greatest mass media manipulation and propaganda campaign since Hitler. Bumbling fool when it suits the left to paint him as such; evil genius when that suits their needs. Once again, making up their own reality as they go along.
