Umm, maybe something got lost in the cultural translation thing. My post was simply suggesting that most govt depts are reluctant to fess up when they mess up. I'm not suggesting a conspiracy - just a fudge & a screw up. Bad luck to get caught out.
Exactly, translations get messed up all the time. It doesn't take much of an error to change the meaning of a sentence. Just look how close they are anyway:
Quote:
" 'The terrorists are attacking the infrastructure, the ISF and all of Iraq. They are enemies of humanity without religion or any sort of ethics. They have attacked my community today and I will now take the fight to the terrorists,' said one Iraqi man who preferred not to be identified."

" 'The terrorists are attacking the infrastructure, the children and all of Iraq,' said one Iraqi man who preferred not to be identified. 'They are enemies of humanity without religion or any sort of ethics. They have attacked my community today and I will now take the fight to the terrorists.' "
heh, ONE word of difference. It's a conspiracy, I tell you!!

Does the NYTimes ever use the same quote twice? How about any of the major media outlets? I would imagine it happens all the time.

It really is this:

You guys assume the worst of our military. Inconsistency = lie rather than generic mistake.

We give them the benefit of the doubt, at least as much as we do any other organization anyway.

Good thing that words not central to the quote huh. Otherwise it might imply a deliberate fiddle. Let me put it this way mule, if I saw the same thing in a newspaper, or a student essay I'd be calling a deliberate fiddle. Don't see why I should look at it differently just because it's a military thing. I don't see much doubt in this one so can't really give the benefit. Maybe I'm just a harsh bastard - entirely possible.

Well that would be kinda weird when the source is supposedly talking about two different incidences, now wouldn't it? That wouldn't be a "quote" regarding the incident at hand, now would it?

Convenient how the word change to describe the incident of the week worked out in that little "mistake" huh?

Maybe they can use it for future attacks. Then can change it to "women" if some women die. Then they can use the same quote of the unidentified iraqi on the street when describing some attack in a month...change the word to "mosque."

Yeah, I'm sure the NYTimes uses the same quotes of one unidentified person to describe two incidents with one slight word change to describe the latest incident...that unidentified person sure gets around to make all these quotes and to remember them verbatim too, huh?

You do have that whole Master Race thing going for you, true. But how'd it work out for you 50 years ago?

Pointing out the mistakes of the government is called Patriotism.

Given your statement above, being apathetic or apologetic via scapegoats to the mistakes of government is called Fascism.

There's a reason the Left is so vigilant. Too bad we couldn't have stopped you guys from giving Communist China a lien on our Country. Good job on that.

Mark,

I had no idea (well, maybe an inkling) that you were a member of the master race. Congratulations and welcome to the club!

The Master Race is apparently distinguished by its ability to have its pocket pissed in while remaining totally oblivious to its own bull*****.

Yawn.

So you're sayin' Mark and Oil have to do a lot of laundry?

Get some rest too. I know conquering non-threatening, faraway lands can be trying, but if you aren't well rested, North Korea may pump out a few more bombs. We need you alert! You're our only hope.

Disraeli?? "Cosmopolitan critics, men who are friends of every country save their own" - That's Disraeli, speaking of course of liberals.
