What irritates the hell out of me is that Iraq is sitting on some of the largest oil reserves in the whole world. If they got their act together they'd be one of the largest super powers in the world inside of 10 years. But no, they have the best security force in the world on hand with the best infrastructure engineering talent in the world on loan...but NOOOO...they'll run around and blow each other up and act like idiots. Ever watch this crap on TV?? The next cleric is spouting off or something blew up and there's like 1000 guys in a crowd of people out milling around in the middle of the day, in the middle of nowhere. Don't these people have anything better to do all day? Go home and do something productive. Gimme a break

NASA develops much of the technology that is used to advance our consumer products considerably.

Hey, they came up with WD-40.

Ahh.. No, not NASA
"WD-40 was invented in 1953, by the three members of the Rocket Chemical Company of San Diego, California. They were working on a line of industrial rust-prevention solvents and degreasers for use in the aerospace industry. WD-40 was first used to protect the outer skin of the Atlas Missile from rust and corrosion. Norm Larsen then repackaged WD-40 into aerosol cans for consumer use and the product was first sold to the general public in 1958. In 1969, the Rocket Chemical Company was renamed after its only product, WD-40"

Damn! I heard that a few guys from NASA came up with it and used at home for years. Finally sold the marketing rights for public consumption. Should have looked this up on Snopes.

Take the money from NASA and put it to a better cause? Good idea! Lets spend it on the military and clean up the rest of the countries that harbor terrorists now...LOL

Federal budget amounts for shuttle missions and PBS are very small drops in the bucket.

Want to say money? Vote the republicans out of office, they do nothing but spend, spend, spend.

Don't make me post another chart.

Your charts might have more credibility if you didnt draw them with crayons.

Good point BG. My friend who spent a year in Iraq said the reason the people appear so lazy is because it is so hot. Money is a great motivator though.

It's not like we'd be exiling libs, this would be a voluntary thing where they could go and experiment. It would be great to see them be able to institute their policies as hardcore as they want to, then watch them fail, over, and over, and over. It'd be their own little petree dish of filth and immorality... but they'd call it paradise.
I'm still waiting for all the liberal who promised to leave when President Bush was reelected and now that nasty wire reporter is saying that she will kill herself if the VP runs in 2008, I hope Dick runs and many other liberal follow her lead. But of course, very few liberals ever do what they say, so we are stuck with them and their empty threats

Sadly, this idea has already been tried and it didn't work out as planned. The liberals were marooned in a region of the country commonly called the "blue states" where they went absolutely WILD with their crazy morals and taxes. And they ended up with lower divorce rates than the red states...

http://www.boston.com/news/globe/editorial_opinion/oped/articles/2004/10/31/walking_the_walk_on_family_values/

Indeed, the bluest state, Massachusetts has the lowest divorce rate in America. The blue states also have higher average household incomes.

http://www.oregonherald.com/n/radicalruss/20041212_red-state-moral-values.html

And to add insult to injury, those terrible blues refuse to admit their failures and hide it by having 85 percent of the venture capitol and paying two thirds of the nation's tax revenues.

http://www.washingtontimes.com/national/20041109-122753-5113r.htm

This last number really irks me. Like most of you, I am in the top tax bracket. And it really annoys me when New England closes another military base (ruining the local economy) or cancels another program in order to keep subsidizing the never-ending mistakes and failures of the ungrateful whiners in the red states. I am a very big fan of lower taxation, self-reliance and personal responsibility. And so I believe every state should be revenue neutral. The red states have the audacity to take our money and then COMPLAIN ABOUT TAX RATES! Make every state pay its own way and the bluer states will see their taxes lowered, services improved, and even more economic, educational, and social/family successes on top of the disproportionate success we already enjoy.

Trying to use the "blue state" term to account for all the achievements of those states is a lil dishonest no?

Do you really think it's because of Democrats that Mass has such a low divorce rate? Or maybe because of the high percentage of Catholics that don't allow/believe in divorce? Honesty my man honesty.

Also, what percentage of the venture catitalist inside your "blue states" are actually democrats? Ok thanks.

According to U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Statistics, Criminal Victimization in the United States, 2003 Statistical Tables, domestic violences is significantly (listed by region) higher in red states vs. blue states.

Could that be why the divorce rate is so high in Red States?

Not relevent. bryanthompson suggested that it was the liberal policies that would bring about failure. And so the proof is in the pudding. It doesn't matter whether those policies are enacted by dems or reps. The numbers show that the policies work. Period.
First on the divorce thing.. Catholics have no better or worse morals in my opinion, it's just that their religion is very strict in this one area. Also, many get their marriages annulled(not counted as a divorce) to skirt the system (John Kerry).

But anyway as to Bryans point then:

Take a look at California as a liberal bastion. It is blessed in ways that most states could only dream of...plentiful and logistically perfect ports, fantastic weather, tourism dollars, etc, etc..... Yet even they with all these "leg-ups" cannot afford the liberal programs their leaders would force on ALL states, even those like.....say Kentucky. Now, pray tell, if Cali can't afford it, how the heck is Kentucky going to do it?

And just because there exists liberal policy AND positive achievements does not mean liberal policy = positive achievements.
